Housatonic man found guilty of rape in 2018 case
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Housatonic man was found guilty of rape in Berkshire Superior Court on Friday.
Man arrested during police search at West Springfield barber shop
Berkshire District Attorney's Office Chief of Operations Julia Sabourin said that 45-year-old Timothy Formel of Housatonic was found guilty of raping a woman on May 26, 2018, in New Marlborough. The survivor of the rape testified in court, and District Attorney Shugrue commended her for her bravery.
Formel is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday. 22News will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Judge sentences Colorado funeral home owner who kept woman's body inside a hearse for more than a year
The former owner of a Colorado funeral home was sentenced on Monday to 18 months in prison. In April, Miles Harford pleaded guilty to one felony count of abuse of a corpse and theft, a misdemeanor. Miles Harford Arapahoe County More than a year ago police found the remains of a 63-year-old woman in a hearse that had been sitting on a Denver street for about 18 months. Her name was Christina Rosales, and her family had thought they were provided with Rosales' cremated remains. They had actually been given the ashes of a different person who died. Boxes of cremated remains were also found in Harford's home on Quitman Street. Harford was being evicted from the home at the time. Eighteen months was the maximum sentence that Harford could have faced. The home on Quitman Street in Denver that Harford was evicted from CBS Denver District Attorney John Walsh said in a prepared statement that Harford caused "terrible pain" to many different families. "It is our hope that this sentence will provide the family and friends of the deceased with some measure of justice," Walsh said. "Harford systematically and shockingly violated his professional and moral obligations, and, for that, he is now being held accountable." Miles Harford LinkedIn Harford's funeral home closed about a year-and-a-half before he was arrested. Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services was located in Littleton.

‘Soonest available date': State moves to hold execution warrant application hearing for Menzies
WEST JORDAN, Utah () — The execution of a man on Utah's death row is now moving forward after it was delayed for an investigation into his competency. Ralph Leroy Menzies was convicted in 1988 for the 1986 aggravated murder, kidnapping, and robbery of Maurine Hunsaker. The State filed a motion Monday to lift the stay on Menzie's execution and hold a hearing for an application for an execution warrant on the 'soonest available date.' Victim's family reacts to convicted killer being ruled competent to be executed According to documents, on Feb. 13, 2024, the court ordered that all 'proceedings advancing toward execution are stayed pending the resolution of Meznie's petition into competency.' They cancelled a hearing set later that month for the State's application for an execution warrant. The 67-year-old man has dementia, his defense in May 2025. Last week, on June 6, Menzies was after 16 months of back-and-forth and competency hearings. 'The State, therefore, moves to lift the stay on the execution proceedings and to schedule a hearing on the State's application for an execution warrant on the soonest available date,' the motion reads. In a statement to ABC4 last week, Menzie's attorney with ABC4 after the ruling that he was competent for execution. Ralph Menzies is a severely brain-damaged, wheelchair-bound, 67-year-old man with dementia and significant memory problems. He cannot understand the State's reasons for his execution. It is deeply troubling that Utah plans to remove Mr. Menzies from his wheelchair and oxygen tank to strap him into an execution chair and shoot him to death. Lynnfield students "shocked" and "embarrassed" by workers' alleged racist words at graduation
People in Lynnfield are weighing in on some very disturbing and racist remarks that were caught on video allegedly by some town workers who have been placed on administrative leave. It happened on Friday as employees were setting up for the Lynnfield High School graduation. A camera set up for a live stream of the ceremony caught audio of the comments as video showed workers unfolding chairs on the school's football field. Michael Murphy is the school class president and spoke at the graduation. "It honestly shocked me, I just can't people would say stuff like that," he said. Murphy said none of the students were aware of the incident until after the graduation ceremony. "I can't believe that they would say such things like that. It obviously does not resemble us as a town and definitely not a class," Murphy said. Graduate Lily White says she was also shocked when she saw the video and feels the comments don't represent school or the town of Lynnfield. "It was kind of crazy and quite disrespectful. Definitely the right thing to suspend them from their job. I just think it was very disrespectful, and kind of embarrassed about the town," White said. Workers placed on administrative leave The video was eventually taken down, but not before other people saw it on social media. Town officials say the workers have been identified and have been placed on administrative leave, though they are not saying how many are involved. CBS Boston Lynnfield Town Administrator Robert Dolan and Assistant Town Administrator Robert Curtin released a statement saying, "We, as town leaders, stand together in outrage over what has been reported this evening and wish to state emphatically that racist language and behavior has no place in our town and will be dealt with immediately." Georgeann Lieb says she's saddened over the situation and feels the students deserve better. "For Lynnfield and any area in the state we got to realize what we are saying and what is spoken outwardly because you do not know who is listening," Lieb said. Murphy hopes people will walk away with a more important message. "Just don't be hateful and treat everyone equally," Murphy said. The names of the individuals who have been place on administrative leave have yet been released. The incident remains under investigation by the town and police and select board.
