At age three, a wounded Mariska Hargitay was nearly abandoned at the scene of the car crash that killed her famous mother Jayne Mansfield, a new documentary reveals.
In 'My Mom Jayne,' Hargitay's personal project that had its US premiere Friday at Carnegie Hall as part of the Tribeca Film Festival, the 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' star, 61, sheds new light on the tragic night of June 29, 1967.
'I often think about why she didn't just sit in the backseat with us,' Mariska's brother Zoltan Hargitay says of their late mother in the doc.

Mansfield, the 34-year-old Hollywood star of the movie 'Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?,' was traveling from Biloxi, Mississippi, where she had been performing at a club, to New Orleans, Louisiana.
Also in the Buick Electra were driver Ronald Harrison, Mansfield's boyfriend and lawyer Samuel Brody and her three children with ex-husband Mickey Hargitay: three-year-old Mariska (then nicknamed Maria), six-year-old Zoltan and eight-year-old Mickey.

The adults were seated up front, while the children were asleep in the back.
As they were driving on US Route 90, the Buick slammed into the back of a trailer truck, killing Mansfield, Brody and Stevens. The three young siblings were injured and unconscious.

'Where's Maria?,' the boy said of his little sister.
Mariska wasn't in the car with them.
The toddler was so small that officers at first didn't see her in the wreckage, and left the site without her.
'You were lodged underneath the passenger seat with a head injury,' Mariska's stepmother Ellen Hargitay tells her in the film.

In 'My Mom Jayne,' Hargitay explores the life of Mansfield, who's often only remembered as a glamorous bombshell. The Emmy Award winner also opens up about her long-held secret: that her biological father is not Mickey Hargitay, but 90-year-old Brazilian-Italian entertainer Nelson Sardelli.
'I just wanted to find out what happened, and sort of what happened is so meaningful,' Mariska said onstage at Carnegie Hall Friday of learning more about her mother's past with Sardelli.
'Was it hard? Yeah. Has it been an incredibly bumpy road? Yes! And guess what? It's f–king glorious now.'
'My Mom Jayne' streams on Max starting June 27.

‘Bridgerton' star Simone Ashley's role in Brad Pitt's ‘F1' cut from final film

Left in the dust. Simone Ashley's role in Brad Pitt's upcoming 'F1' racing movie has been cut from the final film – even though the 'Bridgerton' star shot an entire storyline for the project. Director Joseph Kosinski explained the reason behind the surprising news in an interview published on Monday, June 16. 7 Simone Ashley's role in Brad Pitt's upcoming 'F1' racing movie has been cut from the final film. Getty Images 7 Ashley was set to appear in a larger role alongside Brad Pitt in 'F1.' Getty Images for IWC 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use,' Kosinski, 51, told People. 'There were two or three storylines that ultimately didn't make it into the final cut.' She does, however, briefly appear onscreen but has no lines. Still, the director praised the Netflix star for her acting chops. 'But Simone, she's an incredible talent, incredible actress, incredible singer, and I would love to work with her again,' he added. It was first announced that Ashley, 30, was cast in the Formula 1 racing drama in July 2024. 7 'It happens on every film, where you have to shoot more than you can use,' director Joseph Kosinski said regarding why Ashley's role was cut. 'There were two or three storylines that ultimately didn't make it into the final cut.' Getty Images for IWC Schaffhausen Earlier this month, before it was revealed that her role had been almost completely cut, the 'Sex Education' actress spoke highly of her 'crazy' time on the high-octane movie set. 'I have a very small part, but I'm grateful to be in that movie,' she told Elle on June 6. 'I got to experience many Grands Prix. I don't think I'll ever do anything like that again.' Ashley also said that production on 'F1' had been 'going for years' during an interview with Who What Wear in March. 7 Ashley's acting breakthrough came when she was cast as Kate Sharma in Season 2 of 'Bridgerton.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection 7 Ashley and co-star Jonathan Bailey in 'Bridgerton.' 'I met for this movie, I think, before 'Bridgerton' even came out,' she told the outlet. 'It's been a long time, and you know, it's Damson and Brad's movie. I'm just so grateful that I can be part of it.' Even more surprising was the 'Picture This' star's revelation that 'F1' filmed certain scenes both during and alongside actual Formula One races. 'You had to work as a team,' Ashley said. 'Sometimes we literally had one take for certain shots. Like, you'd see on the call sheet eight minutes to get this one thing because we were shooting alongside the races.' 7 'It's been a long time, and you know, it's Damson and Brad's movie,' Ashley said of her 'very small' role in the new racing movie. 'I'm just so grateful that I can be part of it.' AP 'It was amazing, the adrenaline,' she added. 'It was kind of like theater. It felt so live.' The Post has reached out to Ashley's reps for comment. AP The movie also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia and Javier Bardem. 'There's a peacefulness in the car,' Pitt, 61, told Entertainment Tonight during the red carpet premiere of 'F1' in Mexico City on June 9. 'There are some days when you're off mentally, and you're just a fraction of a second behind on your turning point.' 'Or if you're having an uneasy day, and you're not committed to the car, trusting the car, you get it all wrong,' he added. 'And then there are these days where it is so sublime, you just cannot believe what these cars can do.'

Debbie Gibson on her late mother being the 'original music momager'

It didn't start with Mama K. Most people think of Kris Jenner as the O.G. momager savvily guiding the careers of daughters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner. But Diane Gibson — mother of late '80s teen-pop sensation Debbie Gibson — had the Kardashian/Jenner matriarch beat by a couple of decades. 5 'My late, great mom, Diane, was really the original music momager,' said Debbie Gibson. Getty Images for Songwriters Hall Of Fame 'You know, my late, great mom, Diane, was really the original music momager,' the 'Only in My Dreams' singer exclusively told The Post on the red carpet of last week's Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Years later, other momagers would make like mama bears pushing and protecting their showbiz kids, from Brandy's mom (Sonja Norwood) to Lindsay Lohan's mother (Dina) and Miley Cyrus' mom (Tish) to Selena Gomez's mother (Mandy Teefey). Diane, who passed away in 2022, was the force behind taking her daughter Debbie, now 54, to history-making heights with her 1987 debut album 'Out of the Blue,' released just before her 17th birthday. In addition to 'Only in My Dreams,' the LP featured the hits 'Shake Your Love,' Out of the Blue,' and 'Foolish Beat.' When the latter topped the charts, it made Gibson the youngest female artist ever to write and produce a No. 1 single — a record that still stands. It was her mother who fought for Gibson to have the creative control to do that. 'I remember my mom pounding her fist in the conference room on that,' she said. 5 Debbie Gibson sang Tony Macaulay's 'Build Me Up Buttercup' before inducing him into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Getty Images for Songwriters Hall Of Fame 'And she's like, 'Well, listen to the demo. Deb has a vision. She's the only person who should produce this record,'' Gibson told The Post in 2022. Gibson looked back on how she and her mom made a pioneering pair in the male-dominated music industry as she worked on her upcoming memoir, 'Eternally Electric: The Message in My Music,' which will be released on Sept. 9. 'I really speak a lot about that male-dominated music world we were in together,' said Gibson, who wrote all of the songs on 'Out of the Blue.' 5 Debbie Gibson holds the record as the youngest female artist to write and producer a No. 1 song, 'Foolish Beat.' Redferns 'Yeah, I mean, it was a party trick to kick those doors down … and to convince the label. They believed pretty early on in my writing, Atlantic, but I'm a producer too.' In addition to producing 'Foolish Beat' all by herself, Gibson co-produced three other tracks on her debut LP. It has been 'therapeutic' for Gibson to relive and reflect on the early days of her career while writing her memoir. Now she is happy to see the progress that has been made in the music industry 'to have someone like Gracie Abrams here today [at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where she received the Hal David Starlight Award] in this landscape that is, you know, wide open now for young female songwriters.' 5 Debbie Gibson inducted British tunesmith Tony Macaulay into the Songwriters Hall of Fame last Thursday. 'To be the mother manager, there was such a stigma attached to that, and she knew that she had to know 10 times more than any of the men knew to be taken seriously,' Gibson told The Post in 2022. It's a mother-daughter legacy that Gibson upholds today: 'She and I started that together, and it's still going on.'
