Ahead of this weekend's massive two-night SummerSlam event, WWE has officially concluded its countdown of the 25 greatest matches in the history of the show. The iconic Intercontinental Championship match between Bret "The Hitman" Hart and "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith from 1992 has claimed the coveted top spot.
The countdown has been playing out on WWE's digital platforms over the past several weeks. The final reveal celebrates a bout that is widely considered to be one of the greatest matches in company history.
The Greatest SummerSlam Match Ever
The main event of SummerSlam 1992 was a masterclass in storytelling, held in front of over 80,000 passionate fans at London's Wembley Stadium. The match was for the Intercontinental Championship, marking one of the rare times the title headlined a major pay-per-view.
The storyline was deeply personal, as it pitted two brothers-in-law against each other, with Bret's sister and Bulldog's wife, Diana Hart, torn between them at ringside. In a legendary performance, Bret Hart carried an exhausted British Bulldog through a 25-minute technical classic, culminating in Bulldog winning the title in his home country in an incredibly emotional moment.
Rounding Out The Top Five
The rest of the top five is a showcase of legendary encounters from different eras. The number two spot went to the 2016 dream match between John Cena and AJ Styles, a bout that saw Styles score a clean, star-making victory over the face of the company.

Bret Hart featured heavily at the top of the list. His 1991 technical masterpiece against Mr. Perfect, where he won his first Intercontinental Championship, was ranked number three. His classic 1994 steel cage match against his brother, Owen Hart, for the WWF Championship, came in at number five.
The number four spot was claimed by the brutal "The Best vs. The Beast" No Disqualification match from 2013 between CM Punk and Brock Lesnar. That match was the violent culmination of Paul Heyman's betrayal of CM Punk.

As soon as I they started this countdown I knew this would be number 1 & fair play because it's an iconic match. Would it be my number 1? I'm not entirely sure what my number 1 would be but as I say an iconic match held in the UK which is special. — Daniel(SDMN) (@TheYOLOArtist) July 30, 2025
Is 2002 the only year to have back to back matches on the list? — Markin' Out (@MarkinOut) July 30, 2025
Not mad at it. Good graps — JA (@ReceiptTalk) July 30, 2025
Bret Hart is the greatest in-ring storyteller in wrestling history. It's really not even close. Out of respect, the next two spots should be left empty. — BizarroBabyface (@BizarroBabyface) July 30, 2025
That was storytelling magic. Well deserved. — Mikey! (@MegaMikey81) July 30, 2025
It shouldn't be the greatest match ever... It doesn't worth to be in the no 1 greatest match ever — Enzorealestfan💙🇦🇷 (@IfeoluwaAj11) July 30, 2025
I had a feeling it would be this one. The crowd in Wembley. The family infighting. First time an IC title Main Evented a PPV.
I'm still of the opinion Brett vs. Perfect is the better wrestling match, but I can definitely understand the spectacle nature of this match. — Jorge Edwards (@JorgeBEdwards) July 30, 2025

Brooke Hogan explains her absence at Hulk Hogan WWE tributes
The post Brooke Hogan explains her absence at Hulk Hogan WWE tributes appeared first on ClutchPoints. Brooke Hogan is setting the record straight on why she has not attended any WWE tributes for her late father, Hulk Hogan. The WWE icon died last week at the age of 71 from a heart attack, according to multiple sources. The Brooke Knows Best star shared a post on her Instagram Story, writing, 'For those of you giving me crap for not attending my Dad's tributes, @wwe did not extend an invite.' The WWE has yet to respond to Brooke's message. The post follows Brooke breaking her silence on her father's death after their estranged relationship over the past two years. She shared in their last conversation in 2023 she shared that it was not one 'fight' that stopped them from speaking with one another. 'When he left this earth, it felt like part of my spirit left with him. I felt it before the news even reached us,' Brooke wrote. '… I know he's at peace now, out of pain, and in a place as beautiful as he imagined. He used to speak about this moment with such wonder and hope. Like meeting God was the greatest championship he'd ever have.' 'It was a series of private phone calls no one will ever hear, know, or understand,' she added. 'My father was confiding in me about issues weighing on his heart, both personal and business. I offered to be a life raft in whatever capacity he needed. I told him he had my support. I begged him to rest, to take care of himself.' Brooke, who is now the mother of twins she shares with her husband, former NHL player Steven Oleksy, shared that she supported him through his declining health. Throughout Hulk's 35 year career in the WWE, he had 25 surgeries. He told boxer Jake Paul of this last year. 'I've had like 25 surgeries in the last 10 years,' he told Jake Paul on the IMPAULSIVE podcast in September 2024. 'I've had 10 back surgeries, both knees and both hips replaced, shoulders—everything.' In addition to his 25 surgeries for WWE injuries he was diagnosed with lymphocytic leukemia, a form of blood cancer, that he battled privately. Brooke spoke how she was able to support him throughout the surgeries until he no longer wanted her there. 'We had been through almost 25 surgeries together, and then all of a sudden he didn't want me at surgeries…everything started getting covered in a thick veil. It was like there was a force field around him that I couldn't get through,' she continued. Hulk Hogan honored at WWE Monday Night RAW and WWE NXT It came to a point for Brooke that she had decided to stop disagreeing with her father and create space in their relationship. 'He was telling me these things, being so vulnerable with me and heard my pleas, then suddenly something shifted, and he made a choice to walk the path that clearly tore at his spirit,' she added. 'I felt a disconnect. What followed were respectful disagreements that took an emotional toll on me.' In the end, she did what was best for her emotionally and that she still loved her father despite everything. 'I know in my heart I did everything I could,' Brooke concluded. 'He knew I would run through a burning building for him. And in many ways, along the path of life, I did. He knows how deeply, how hard and how purely I loved him. I am at peace knowing this.' So far, WWE honored the late wrestling icon at WWE's Monday Night RAW earlier this week and WWE NXT on Tuesday (July 29). Despite Brooke's absence, her brother, Nick, was at the WWE Monday Night RAW event in honor of their late father. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Full Card, Date Time And Watch Info - Nights 1 & 2
As we head into the final episode of SmackDown before the two-day SummerSlam extravaganza, there appear to be six matches set per night. Here are the matches, what to expect, as well as viewing information for both SummerSlam 2025 – Night 1 - August 2 at 7pm ET on Peacock World Heavyweight Championship Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk This seems like a great spot for Punk to win his world title. However, I do envision his wife AJ Lee returning to WWE sometime soon. I'm not sure when that will happen, but I'd be shocked if she isn't a part of a major angle teaming her with Punk against Seth Rollins and his real-life wife Becky Lynch. As it is, this is Gunther's second reign as the World Heavyweight Champion and he doesn't have much else to prove at this point. I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn face at some point over the next Women's Championship Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill I'm picking Cargill to go over and win her first world title. I also expect Bianca Belair to return to action either on SmackDown or at SummerSlam. No matter when she returns, the potential Bianca-Jade feud is likely coming late in 2025 or early in 2026. Stratton's title reign has been mid and it's time to spice up the scene around the Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul I almost always hate the celebrity match, but there have been a few exceptions. Just about every match Logan Paul has been in has been strong, but we're doubling up here by adding Jelly Roll. I have all the respect in the world for the work it appears Jelly is putting in, and I acknowledge how good his mic work has been during the build. That said, there's a lot of work to be done if anyone is going to make him look good in the ring. Perhaps there will be a massive storyline shift, like an Orton heel turn that adds to the show. That might be quite the Women's Tag Team Championships The Judgment Day (Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez) (c) vs. Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair I fully expect to see Bliss and Flair win. Teaming with Bliss has put Flair over with the fans again, and she deserves it after a long rehab for her injured knee. For my money, she's still the greatest women's wrestler of all time, but Becky Lynch has dramatically closed that Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed Some are predicting a Jey Uso heel turn here. Perhaps, but there won't be two huge heel turns on the same day at SummerSlam. And I'd prefer to see Orton flip at this point. As it is, I'm excited to see what kind of show these four men put on, as it is my favorite for match of the night on the first day of Zayn vs. Karrion Kross This could be a huge match for both men. Kross needs something big and memorable in this spot. WWE has placed him in another PLE and he needs an in-ring moment that will make re-signing him a SummerSlam 2025 – Night 2 - August 3 at 7pm ET on Peacock Undisputed WWE Championship – Street Fight John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes There is no doubt in my mind this will be one of the more memorable matches from Cena's farewell tour. It seems like a match that Rhodes could win, but I almost think it would be better if Rhodes' next title run comes as a heel. In any case, this one is going to be special. Cena's character is beginning to soften and it's been a pleasure to watch the World Championship – Triple Threat Naomi (c) vs. Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley The pressure is on Naomi in this one. It's not about defending the title. The pressure comes from the resurgent veteran being faced with the task of helping Iyo and Rhea deliver a match as good or better than the one the latter two had with Bianca Belair at WrestleMania. If they bring it similarly, we could be looking at another Intercontinental Championship Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lyra Valkyria Becky has pulled more out of Lyra than I thought she was ready to deliver at this stage of her career. However, I don't know if it is time for Lyra to regain her title. The women's IC belt still needs to be put over a bit more, and Becky is the best person for that task. I'm hoping they have an excellent match that Becky still States Championship – Steel Cage Match Solo Sikoa (c) vs. Jacob Fatu I expect this match to be physical but slow-paced. The interference is going to come in some way, but it'll be interesting to see if anyone besides Jimmy comes to Jacob's aid when the numbers game swings in Solo's Championship Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. AJ Styles If Dom is going to spend more time with AAA, it would make sense for him to drop the title. That said, Styles doesn't need it. He's already been the IC Champion in his career. As his career winds down, the only thing that really makes sense is a World Heavyweight Championship run. That's not what this is, so I'm a little stumped when it comes to predicting the end of this Tag Team Championship – TLC Match Wyatt Sicks (c) vs. #DIY vs. Street Profits vs. Fraxiom vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Andrade & Rey Fenix It's a tag team match and those haven't seen a bunch of love of late in WWE. However, the amount of athleticism and absolute chaos that is possible in this match makes it one of the ones I'm most looking forward to this weekend. Andrade and Rey Fenix or Fraxiom would make great champions. Everyone else in the match has already had their time as champions.

Cody Rhodes pays tribute to Hulk Hogan on WWE SmackDown
The post Cody Rhodes pays tribute to Hulk Hogan on WWE SmackDown appeared first on ClutchPoints. Though WWE committed the opening on Friday Night SmackDown to an expansive tribute to the late Hulk Hogan, from a 10 bell salute to a near-seven-minute long video package highlighting his entire career, Cody Rhodes wanted to spend a little extra time focusing on the 'Hulkster' before getting down to business. Taking the ring to talk SummerSlam, his feud with John Cena, and everything else along the way, Rhodes dedicated some time to Hogan, thanking him for his contributions to sports entertainment, wrestling, and entertainment as well. 'Yesterday, WWE and pro-wrestling lost one of its giants in Hulk Hogan, and I know emotions and feelings regarding it are complicated, but what is not complicated is his accomplishments and his contributions to WWE to sports entertainment, to pro wrestling, to entertainment as a whole,e they are staggering and they are indisputable,' Rhodes declared. 'So, as someone who gets to stand here and say that I'm a WWE Superstar, he was the original, and I just want to take a moment to say thank you, Hulk Hogan.' Did Rhodes and Hogan ever share the ring? Nope, but Hogan did wrestle his Cody's father Dusty a number of times back in the day, including eight matches in New Japan Pro Wrestling – if you can believe it – a Royal Rumble in WWE, and one final time on an episode of WCW Thunder in 2000, according to Cagematch. Despite being from very different generations, the way Rhodes and Hogan present themselves to the WWE Universe is remarkably similar, with the 'American Nightmare' taking more than a few cues from the 'HulkaManic' in his red, white, and blue babyface presentation post-AEW. While Rhodes' time as a babyface may rapidly be coming to a close, with Cena's redemption coming at some point, maybe as soon as SummerSlam, when that day comes, he will almost certainly take cues from Hogan there too, using the 'Hollywood Hogan' character as a template from which to tell his own story.
