DPM Fadillah arrives in Samarkand for UN Public Service Forum
Fadillah, who also serves as Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, was received upon arrival by Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Energy, Umid Mamadaminov, and Deputy Governor of the Samarkand Region, Rustam Kobilov.
He is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the forum to share Malaysia's experience in transforming its public service delivery system.
Hosted by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Government of Uzbekistan, the forum will take place from June 23 to 25.
The forum emphasises the pressing need to accelerate progress in public administration and service delivery to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Govt to roll out nuclear power programme under 13th Malaysia Plan
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is set to embark on a nuclear energy development programme, exploring its use for electricity generation as part of the country's clean energy transition over the next five years. Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said MyPower Corporation will serve as the Nuclear Energy Programme Implementing Organisation, responsible for governing the national nuclear programme in line with the standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency. "This entity will coordinate the implementation of communication, education and public awareness programmes, investments in new infrastructure, strengthening research and development, capacity-building and training, as well as international cooperation with various stakeholders on nuclear energy," he said in his winding-up speech on the 13th Malaysia Plan. Meanwhile, Fadillah, who is also the deputy prime minister, said five key targets have been set to strengthen flood mitigation and adaptation during the next five years. To this end, he said, measures will be taken to accelerate the development of flood mitigation infrastructure, adopt alternative methods in flood adaptation and management, and enhance governance mechanisms to safeguard the people's wellbeing and strengthen the nation's economic sustainability. This includes increasing the number of people protected from flood disasters from 154,000 to 1 million by 2030, expanding the flood-protected area to 1,400 square kilometres, and completing 55 new flood mitigation projects by 2030, compared to 17 projects up to 2024. "We will also commence construction of four multifunctional retention ponds and initiate the development of 12 new integrated river basins," he said. He assured that the implementation of all strategies and initiatives under the 13th Malaysia Plan will be monitored in a transparent, systematic and comprehensive manner to ensure the benefits are realised by the people. "The success of the 13MP will accelerate the transition to a value-creation-based economy, elevate the country's positive image and influence on the global stage, and secure a better quality of life for the people while ensuring a healthier planet," he said.

MA63 demands review status and flood risk measures by DPM Fadillah
KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) remain under review by the Technical Committee of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63). Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof confirmed the unresolved issues cover education, healthcare, oil royalties, and state rights over the continental shelf. Fadillah stated that 13 claims have been resolved, with nine addressed under the MADANI Government and four during the previous administration. Among the resolved demands are the recognition of Sabah and Sarawak's Public Works and Irrigation Departments as Technical Departments under Treasury Instruction 182. He added that the transfer of the Electricity Regulatory Authority to Sabah and amendments to the Inland Revenue Board Act 1995 were also completed. These changes include appointing Sabah and Sarawak representatives as permanent IRB members and updating labour ordinances in both states. The MTPMA63, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, evaluates demands from Sabah and Sarawak within legal frameworks. Fadillah emphasised the government's commitment to resolving MA63 issues but noted that timelines depend on legal processes and state readiness. Operational, financial, and human resource capacities in Sabah and Sarawak must align before finalising any MA63 claim. On flood mitigation, Fadillah highlighted structural and non-structural strategies implemented by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation. Structural measures include drainage upgrades, flood mitigation projects, and river rehabilitation. Non-structural efforts involve master plans and flood hazard maps, with 54 plans completed this year. Most Sabah, Sarawak education and health demands agreed at MA63 technical meeting

Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said the meeting was crucial as preparation for the MTPMA63 Meeting No. 1/2025, which will be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuching on Sept 12. On education, he said agreements reached included state governments' involvement in the planning of education development projects, information sharing on the transfer of senior officers and allocation of funds for professional development programmes. 'As for healthcare, the meeting agreed to several demands, including increased allocations for operating and development expenditure, granting certain autonomous powers to State Health Directors, and strengthening human resources at the Health Departments of Sabah and Sarawak,' he said in a statement today. Fadillah added that other pending matters will continue to be discussed under the Joint Action Committee on Education and Health Development for Sabah and Sarawak, under the purview of the Education Ministry (MoE) and Health Ministry (MoH). In today's meeting, two briefing papers were also presented by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU, JPM) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES), which will be brought to the upcoming MTPMA63 meeting in Kuching for decision. 'Other unresolved demands will continue to be monitored by the Technical Committee under MTPMA63 as well as relevant ministerial-level working committees,' he said.
