President Murmu presents Padma awards

New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu on Monday conferred Padma Awards to 71 persons for their outstanding contribution in various fields at a civil investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan here.
The awards included four Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri Awards, an official statement said.
The Padma Vibhushan awardees included MT Vasudevan Nair (Posthumous), Dr Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy, Lakshminarayana Subramaniam and Osamu Suzuki (Posthumous).
Moreover, Sreejesh PR, Sushil Kumar Modi (Posthumous), Shekhar Kapur and Ajith Kumar are among the Padma Bhushan awardees.
Among the Padma Shri awardees include Ravichandran Ashwin, Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid, Pawan Kumar Goenka, Vasudeo Taranath Kamath and Jaspinder Narula.
The Padma awardees will pay homage at the National War Memorial on Tuesday and will also visit the Rashtrapati Bhawan and Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Several casualties are feared. Union Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu took stock of the plane crash. The minister informed the Prime Minister that he is rushing to Ahmedabad to oversee rescue and relief operations on the ground. The Prime Minister has directed the minister to ensure all necessary support is extended immediately and asked to be kept regularly updated on the situation. All relevant agencies are on high alert, and coordinated efforts are underway.
