Former Suzuki Motor Chief, Osamu Suzuki, Posthumously Conferred with Padma Vibhushan
Osamu Suzuki, the former Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, who led the company for more than 40 years, has been posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan. India's second-highest civilian honour was conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan on April 28. Receiving the award on his late father's behalf, Toshihiro Suzuki, Representative Director and President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, expressed gratitude. Osamu Suzuki played a crucial role in the development of the Indian automotive sector. He was instrumental in the company's choice to enter the Indian market in 1983, which ultimately led to a collaboration with the Indian government to create Maruti Udyog Limited. This effort provided Indian consumers with affordable and fuel-efficient vehicles. Osamu Suzuki's aspirations extended beyond just automobiles; he established partnerships, ventured into new markets, and evolved Suzuki Motor into an internationally recognized brand. Throughout the 1990s, the collaboration between Maruti and Suzuki received substantial fame, generating over 200,000 vehicles each year and establishing India as a crucial manufacturing center for Suzuki cars in the region. For the year 2025, the President has approved the conferment of 139 Padma Awards, including cases where two recipients are considered as one. The roster includes 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri Awards. Among the recipients, there are 23 women, and the list features 10 individuals categorized as Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI, along with 13 awardees honored posthumously.

President Murmu presents Padma awards
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu on Monday conferred Padma Awards to 71 persons for their outstanding contribution in various fields at a civil investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan here. The awards included four Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri Awards, an official statement said. The Padma Vibhushan awardees included MT Vasudevan Nair (Posthumous), Dr Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy, Lakshminarayana Subramaniam and Osamu Suzuki (Posthumous). Moreover, Sreejesh PR, Sushil Kumar Modi (Posthumous), Shekhar Kapur and Ajith Kumar are among the Padma Bhushan awardees. Among the Padma Shri awardees include Ravichandran Ashwin, Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid, Pawan Kumar Goenka, Vasudeo Taranath Kamath and Jaspinder Narula. The Padma awardees will pay homage at the National War Memorial on Tuesday and will also visit the Rashtrapati Bhawan and Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya. Osamu Suzuki, PR Sreejesh, R Ashwin among 71 conferred Padma awards by President Droupadi Murmu
NEW DELHI: Of the total 139 Padma Awardees for the year 2025, 71 of them including Osamu Suzuki (Posthumous), Hockey legend PR Sreejesh, filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor and cricketer R Ashwin received awards from President Droupadi Murmu at the first star studded investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday. In a statement, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said, 'The President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented 4 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2025 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held in Ganatantra Mandap of the Rashtrapati Bhawan today.' The ceremony was graced by Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and many other ministers in the Union government among other dignitaries. Among those, who were presented the second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan, included MT Vasudevan Nair (Posthumous) and his wife Saraswathy received the distinction on his behalf. Similarly, on the behalf of Osamu Suzuki, his son Toshihiro received the award. The other two recipients of Padma Vibhshan were Duvvur Nageswar Reddy and Lakshminarayana Subramaniam. Besides Sreejesh and Shekhar Kapur, prominent among those who received Padma Bhushan former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi (Posthumous) and on his behalf his wife Jessie Sushil Modi. Late Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas's wife Farida Pankaj Udhas received the award on his behalf. In total 10 Padma Bhushan awardees received the distinction. Besides Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan, 57 Padma Shri awards, including one to cricket R Ashwin were given.
