Mummy Pig is pregnant, and it's the good news Peppa Pig fans didn't know they needed

CBC28-02-2025

We've needed some good news, haven't we?
What with the politics and the polarization and the measles and the bird flu and the tariffs. And if the sheer number of TikTok videos about taking a bath with a toaster and social media posts about lying down in the woods and letting the moss reclaim you are any indication, people are pretty done with the current state of, you know, everything.
But finally, there's something to be excited about! And if the good news happens to arrive in the form of a cartoon pig's cartoon womb, honestly, at this point we'll take the win.
Mummy Pig, Peppa Pig's mom on the beloved British children's cartoon Peppa Pig, is pregnant. After 21 years as a family of four, Mummy and Daddy Pig will break the news to Peppa and George in a new episode on March 31, Hasbro announced in a press release on Thursday.
And the new sibling will arrive in Season 11 later this year.
"OH BABY, The secret's out. Mummy and Daddy Pig are expecting baby #3 ... and are about to be outnumbered," reads a post on the Official Peppa Instagram account on Thursday.
The post includes two photos: the first, of a visibly pregnant Mummy Pig; the second of an ultrasound photo of a tiny, smiling, piglet fetus (words we never thought we'd write, but here we are).
To those of you not well versed in the world of Peppa Pig, the scale of the announcement is arguably akin to if Marge announced she and Homer are having a fourth baby after nearly 40 years of The Simpsons, or if the Bradys added a seventh child to their bunch, or if Anna and Elsa had a secret third sister in Frozen 3, which is to say unexpected and a little shocking.
After all, fans of the British preschool animated television series have been listening to cheeky Peppa introduce her family in the opening sequence the same way for the past 21 years: "I'm Peppa Pig. This is my little brother, George. This is Mummy Pig. And this is Daddy Pig."
As Hasbro points out in its announcement, "everything is about to change."
"While Peppa is already a big sister to George, fans will see her welcome and adjust to having a new baby sister or brother," the announcement notes.
Mummy Pig, for her part, says she's thrilled and a little overwhelmed, as anyone might be when expecting their third child.
"We're having another baby!" she said in an interview with Good Morning Britain on Thursday, showing off her rounded form and then holding up an ultrasound of a piglet fetus (never thought we'd write those words twice).
In the news segment, the cartoon Mummy Pig, voiced by British actress and comedian Morwenna Banks, admitted she's "a little overwhelmed at the thought of having three children under five running around, but mostly just completely delighted."
Fans appear to be delighted, too.
"Happy tearsss," wrote a commenter on the Instagram pregnancy announcement.
"Well, now THIS is news," wrote another.
"Peppa Pig's Mummy is pregnant. This is the sort of news I want to see," wrote a fan on X.
We'll take it.

Top TikToker Khaby Lame detained by U.S. immigration

TikTok star Khaby Lame poses for a photograph after being named UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Friday, Jan. 31, 2025 in Dakar, Senegal. (AP Photo/Sylvain Cherkaoui) U.S. immigration agents detained and later allowed the 'voluntary departure' of the world's most-followed TikToker, Khaby Lame, after he 'overstayed' his visa, authorities said Saturday. 'U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations,' the agency said in a statement to AFP. Lame entered the United States on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' the statement said of the Friday detention, adding that he was released the same day. The Italian national, who is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador and has a following of more than 162 million on TikTok, 'has since departed the U.S.' Lame had not immediately posted publicly about the incident as of Saturday afternoon. Since taking power in January, U.S. President Donald Trump has delivered on campaign promises to tighten immigration controls and carry out a mass deportation drive -- aspects of which have been challenged in U.S. courts. Lame holds top spot on the wildly popular TikTok social media app, with 162.2 million followers and has risen to fame for his short silent videos mocking the convoluted tutorials and tips that abound on the internet. He punctuates his videos with a trademark gesture -- palms turned towards the sky, accompanied by a knowing smile and wide eyes -- as he offers his own simple remedies. The idea for his content came to him while wandering around the housing project where his family lived in Chivasso, near Turin, after losing his factory mechanic's job in March 2020. His posts took off -- helping him gross an estimated $16.5 million through marketing deals with companies in the period between June 2022 and September 2023, according to Forbes.

Almonte and District High School presented an enchanting production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Article content Hannah Castillo, Lead Critic Holy Trinity Catholic High School Article content We all know the story of the boy who lived, but the next chapter doesn't belong to him. The magic of Hogwarts returned in Almonte and District High School's enchanting and moving production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: High School Edition. Article content Article content Taking place 19 years after the Harry Potter series, the Cursed Child follows Harry Potter's son, Albus, and Draco Malfoy's son, Scorpius. The two form a special friendship as they struggle to make a name for themselves in spite of their fathers' legacies. As they attempt to rewrite history, they not only confront the dark secrets of the wizarding world, but also confront the emotional challenges that come with family and friendship in this magical story. Article content The role of Albus was played to perfection by Cole Stevenson. Stevenson featured a great British accent that remained consistent at all times. With the use of remarkable voice intonations and natural delivery, Stevenson gave an emotional performance where sadness, anger, and frustration resonated through the stage. Stevenson had an exceptional dynamic with all other characters on stage, most noticeably with Mycah Olson who played Scorpius. While Albus and Scorpius became friends, Stevenson and Olson built a heart-warming relationship on stage that featured understanding, conflict, and resolution. The pair's outstanding connection powered the show, bringing both laughter and emotion. As Scorpius, Olson had a strong sense of character and a wide emotional range. With humorous line delivery and comedic timing, Olson brought light-heartedness, but was also able to convey sorrow through an exceptional voice and expressive mannerisms. Article content Article content Article content Jack Lockhart took to the stage fabulously in the role of Harry Potter. With a strong stage presence, Lockhart showed true character development and portrayed significant emotion when bonding with Albus, going from an awkward and overbearing dad, to an understanding and supportive father. In the role of Delphi Diggory, the talented Marjorie Mennie unveiled the plot with an amazing change of character. Mennie's facial expressions, emotions, and voice intonations drastically differed when revealing the true nature of Delphi, adding a lot of magic to the show. Another remarkable performance was Jade Lodge in the role of Professor McGonagall, who with an outstanding Scottish accent, never failed to bring laughter by lecturing both past and present students. The Hogwarts Students did an impeccable job running around the school and making the busy environment come to life, making the show even more entertaining and realistic.
