Acadian Ambulance honors its Hub City Paramedic and EMT of the Year
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Acadian Ambulance recognizes two EMS personnel for their work ethic and dedication serving Acadiana this past year.
Hub City's finest, Paramedic Brandi Leonard and EMT Alison Cagle were selected as the company's EMT of the Year out of 300 medics in the region.
Brandi Leonard started her career as an EMT in 2007 then became a paramedic in 2008 and continued serving Acadian Ambulance for 16 years. Through the years Leonard has earned many titles, certification and awards such as Critical Care Transport Paramedic, Senior Field training Officer and so much more.
Cagle began her journey in EMS while still in high school, where she took EMR classes. She obtained her EMT certification in early 2021 and worked in Sacramento, California, for two years before moving across the country to join the Acadian family. Cagle is currently in paramedic school and works out of Lafayette. Her dedication to EMS, consistent hard work, and commitment to quality patient care led to her recognition as EMT of the Year.
Acadian Ambulance will honor Leonard and Cagle, along with all regional honorees, and its entire medical team at its celebration on May 9 in Lafayette.

Teen survives high-speed chase Othello vehicle theft
Jun. 5—OTHELLO — A 14-year-old boy was involved in a high-speed pursuit Sunday, following the theft of a vehicle in Othello, according to a statement from the Othello Police Department. At approximately 1:49 a.m., Othello police officers noticed a black 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer speeding through a 35-mph zone, prompting a traffic stop due to suspected impaired driving. Officers attempted a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Seventh Avenue. However, the driver accelerated away from the officers, reaching speeds over 70 mph while navigating city streets, running multiple stop signs and red lights and heading towards State Route 26. "Don't risk your future, it's simply not worth it, fleeing creates danger for everyone," Othello PD said in a statement. The perilous chase concluded when the Trailblazer, still traveling at around 70 mph, crashed into cement barricades at the end of the road, flipping at least once before settling. Quick action by Othello EMS and fire services led to the teen being transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Further investigation revealed that the boy, a resident of North Las Vegas, Nev., had stolen the vehicle just minutes before the pursuit while accompanying his father on a work trip. He is now held at Martin Hall Juvenile Facility, facing charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police officers. "Although not the ending we wanted, we are thankful the teen made it out alive," Othello PD said in a statement.

Shooting incidents prompt police manhunt in Jeanerette, Baldwin
JEANERETTE, La. (KLFY) — Several suspects wanted in connection with a shooting in the 600 block of Canal St. and in Baldwin that occurred yesterday evening, Jenerette Police Department said. Police are on the search for several suspects including Javon Robertson,22, Miguel Martinez,17, Jaylon Charles,19 and 16 year old male juvenile, officials said. Javon Robertson, 22 is wanted for the one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and one count of terrorizing, police said. Miguel Martinez,17 is wanted for one count of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, two counts of attempted second degree murder and one count of terrorizing. According to officers, they discovered a male victim who sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. During the investigation, officials said they received information that five suspects were involved in the incident. Around two hours later, the police were notified of another call of shots fired in the area of Wilson and Cypermort Streets. Through investigation, the alleged shooter in the incident was Robertson. The Jeanerette Police Department learned shortly afterward that the Baldwin Police Department was engaged in a pursuit with a vehicle, which the suspects fled on foot. One of the occupants was identified as Mr. Robertson, the main suspect in the second shooting incident, police said. The investigation remains ongoing, as several more arrests are expected.
