Alpine skiing-Promising French teenaged skier Simond dies in training accident
(Reuters) -Promising French Alpine skier Margot Simond died after an accident while training in Val d'Isere on Thursday, the French Ski Federation announced.
The 18-year-old had been scheduled to compete in the Red Bull Alpine Park event, created by Olympic champion Clement Noel, this weekend. The even has been cancelled following Simond's death.
Organizers said a doctor attempted to resuscitate Simond after she fell but she could not be revived.
French media reported an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
Simond was crowned French U-18 slalom champion last March and was regarded as a promising talent for the future of French Alpine skiing.

The Belarusian dominated her opponent from the start and although she faced some brief resistance in the second set, she easily set up a meeting with 16th seed Amanda Anisimova of the United States. "I am super happy with the win, Olga is a fighter and I knew it would be a fight. She played like a top 10 player; pretty soon she will be in the top 10," said Sabalenka. Sabalenka started in ruthless fashion, racing to a 5-0 lead but Danilovic avoided the bagel by winning the sixth game on serve, going on to pull a break back.
