Cincinnati Reds' Tyler Callihan undergoes surgery for broken arm
ATLANTA – Injured Cincinnati Reds left fielder Tyler Callihan underwent surgery in Cincinnati Tuesday, the day after breaking both bones in his left forearm when he crashed into a wall trying to make a catch.
'By all accounts, everything came out like it was supposed to,' said manager Terry Francona, who suggested the injury won't be season-ending.

Callihan, who was playing in just his fourth big-league game Monday in Atlanta after debuting last week, is expected to need six to eight weeks of recovery before restarting baseball activity, the manager said.
'Which is actually incredible if you think about it,' Francona said.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Michael Winton, a hand and wrist specialist.
As Francona spoke to reporters before Tuesday's game against the Braves, his phone dinged with a text.
'Speak of the devil,' said Francona, who shared the brief message from Callihan, encouraging the team in its game that night.
'Obviously he's out (of surgery) and aware now. Or maybe semi-aware,' Francona said.

Callihan, an infielder through his career, was playing his third game in left field since making his debut when he gloved Matt Olson's slicing line drive at full speed near the foul line, then crashed glove-first into the wall in foul territory.
He immediately crumpled to the ground in pain, losing the bal in the process as Olson was credited with an inside-the-park home run.

White Sox agree to 1-year contract with left-hander Tyler Alexander
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox added pitcher Tyler Alexander on Sunday, agreeing to a one-year contract with the veteran left-hander. Alexander, a Chicago native who turns 31 next month, was designated for assignment by Milwaukee last weekend. He cleared waivers and opted for free agency. Alexander went 3-5 with a 6.19 ERA and one save in 21 appearances for the Brewers this season, including four starts. He had 30 strikeouts and 12 walks over 36 1/3 innings. The White Sox also placed left-hander Jared Shuster on the 15-day injured list before their series finale against Kansas City. Shuster has a blister on his left hand. To make room for Alexander on the 40-man roster, left-hander Fraser Ellard was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Ellard has a left lat strain. Alexander is 20-33 with a 4.67 ERA in 164 career major league appearances, also playing for the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays. ___ AP MLB:
