RTÉ announce new two-year TV deal for FAI Cup
RTÉ HAVE SECURED the rights to show the FAI Cup for the next two seasons.
After losing access to the League of Ireland Premier Division to Virgin Media until 2029, the State broadcaster have responded with a bumper offering for the cup.

For the first time, RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player will show six games in this season's competition before following up with seven fixtures in the 2026 edition.
Coverage will begin in the third round round followed by two quarter-finals, both semi-finals and the final at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, 9 November.
The 2026 competition will then see RTÉ broadcast from the second round all of the way to the final.
This new deal begins on the week ending 17 August for that third-round tie.

Precious memories of the late Tommie Gorman shared at special Sligo event

Leo Gray, retired sports editor of The Sligo Champion, and Niall Delaney of Ocean FM, joined moderator Adrian Eames, RTÉ sports commentator and producer, for a panel discussion covering Tommie Gorman's successful career as a journalist and correspondent, his lifelong love of Sligo, Sligo Rovers FC, and his unwavering commitment to helping others throughout his life. The stories, memories, and music shared throughout the evening formed a fitting tribute to this remarkable Sligo man. Contributions from the audience highlighting the support Tommie Gorman gave to numerous projects came from Kevin Colreavy, Sligo Rovers Heritage Committee; Simone Hickey, Lest Sligo Forgets; Colm McIntyre, Principal, Ursuline College Sligo; and Maura Gilligan, artist and writer. Seamie and Stephen O'Dowd provided a moving musical accompaniment, bringing the evening to a close with a poignant rendition of Thom Moore's beautiful song, 'Believe Me, Sligo.' The special edition of The Word was supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media through the Creative Ireland Programme, and can be viewed on the Sligo Libraries YouTube channel.

Donegal and Mayo showdown fixed for Dr Hyde Park as final-round details confirmed
Donegal and Mayo's All-Ireland SFC Group 1 final round game has been fixed for King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park on Sunday week with a 4pm throw-in. Although there were hopes in Donegal that the game would be staged at an Ulster venue, the Roscommon town grounds will host the match, which will be shown live on RTÉ. It will throw in at the same time as the other Group 1 meeting between Cavan and Tyrone in Enniskillen's Brewster Park. On Saturday at 4.15pm in Group 2, Cork's must-win game against Roscommon has been fixed for Portlaoise's Laois Hire O'Moore Park. That could yet form a double-header with the Laois hurlers' All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final against Dublin or Tipperary. Kerry will travel to face Meath in their Group 2 finale in Tullamore's Glenisk O'Connor Park with Jack O'Connor's side requiring a draw to top the table and secure an automatic All-Ireland quarter-final berth. Late that day at 6.30pm, Derry and Dublin meet in Newry's Páirc Esler as Armagh face Galway in a repeat of last year's final in Kingspan Breffni. The earlier games on Sunday are the Group 3 clashes at 2pm. Clare have to defeat Leinster champions Louth in Portlaoise to earn a last-12 spot and the top-of-the-table duel between Down and Monaghan is fixed for Armagh city. A draw for Down will be enough for them to qualify for the last-eight on score difference. Drogs must act fast to resolve Conference League conflict
Trivela's ownership of Drogheda United may have to be divested to prevent the FAI Cup holders losing their place in the Europa Conference League draw on June 13. Uefa rules debar clubs with the same owners facing each other in competition for sporting integrity purposes. An obstacle has arisen for Drogs due to Silkeborg IF qualifying from the Danish league for the same competition over the weekend. American investors Trivela possess both clubs within their multi-club stable – Drogheda's on a full 100% stake and their latest purchase, Silkeborg, with an 80% shareholding. A statement released by the Louth club on Sunday night offered no assurance of Drogs' first foray into Europe for 12 years proceeding, other than citing ongoing discussions with Uefa. Those talks will centre on the degree of control Trivela carry over each entity. English FA Cup winners Crystal Palace are also deadlocked in negotiations with the governing body due to a potential conflict with Lyon's entrance to the Europa League. American John Textor has stakes in each both Palace argue his minority 25% shareholding doesn't accord him stewardship of decision-making. He owns 41% of Lyon. Drogs must act fast to resolve the blockers because in such conflicts, precedence is given to the club which finishes highest in the league. Drogs qualified through the Cup, Silkeborg the league. FAI Cup runners-up Derry City are ineligible to replace Drogs as, according to the Derry Journal, they didn't apply for a Uefa licence.
