Jade Thirlwall calls out invasive pregnancy speculation amid solo career pressures
Singer Jade Thirlwall says she finds constant questions about having children, with Rizzle Kicks' Jordan, hard to handle as she opened up about the pressures on ITV's The Assembly
Singer Jade Thirlwall says she finds constant questions about having children hard to handle. The former Little Mix star, who has gone on to forge a hugely successful solo career, opened up about the pressures to have a family.
Jade, 32, has been dating Rizzle Kicks musician Jordan Stephens for five years, and says she finds speculation about her being pregnant 'invasive' on ITV 's The Assembly.
'The thing that annoys me the most is 'Am I going to have children, am I pregnant?'' she offloads. 'I find it weird that people ask that as they don't know what my circumstances are. You don't know if someone can't have children, they don't want to or aren't ready yet."
"I think it's an invasive question. I've put on a bit of weight since I've become a solo artist. Then people speculate. I'm like 'Babe, I've just had a bit of garlic bread.' I'm bloated. I feel like I always have to be conscious of it.'
South Shields-born Jade rose to fame on ITV talent show The X Factor, when she auditioned as a solo singer and was put into group Little Mix with Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson.
She launched her own solo career last year with hit single Angel of My Dreams, which won best song at this year's Brit Awards.
The singer was quizzed by a group of autistic, neurodivergent and learning disabled people for ITV series The Assembly.
They brought some hard-hitting questions, grilling Jade on her talent show days, asking if she'd 'sold her soul' on The X Factor.
'Maybe a little bit in the beginning,' she winced. 'I was so young and I'd just signed the dotted line. But as the years have gone by and I've got to know more about the industry... it's a bit like Thanos with the stones, I've been collecting parts of my soul back as I've gained more creative freedom and I've learned more about the industry.'
Asked if the demise of the show means the end of boss Simon Cowell, she said: 'I think it's the end of that TV show, the end of that era. I don't think it's the end of Simon Cowell specifically.'
She opened up about her first dates with Jordan, 33 - saying she laid down her biggest turn offs straight away.
'We asked each other very serious questions like, do you clap when the plane lands because that's a big ick for me.'
She also recalled a disastrous meeting with a budding suitor before they got together.
'I've been catfished before,' she revealed. 'I met up with a guy at a bar. I didn't know it was him as he looked so different. He was asking a lot of intrusive questions, almost like a journalist, so I got the ick quickly there.'
Jade got emotional when asked about the tragic death of her friend Liam Payne last year.
'He was the first friend I made in the industry,' she said. 'We both auditioned for X Factor when we were very young. He was so lovely. He was very talented. He really wanted to make his family proud, which he did. I remember everyone on the show at the time saying this person is a star. He literally had the X Factor. He was destined to be a musician, a singer.'

The presenter and performer presented the 2023 edition of the biggest soap awards in the UK, taking over from Phillip Schofield. While the ceremony did not take place last year, it has returned for this year and will be aired on ITV on Thursday evening, June 5. Fans may recognise Jane McDonald from co-hosting ITV's Loose Women as well as her very own Channel 5 travel show, Cruising with Jane McDonald, which has won awards itself. But away from the spotlight, Jane has been through her fair share of challenges and heartache, having candidly spoken about her "failures and mistakes" in her recently published autobiography, Let the Light In. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter . In the book, the 62-year-old singer and TV personality also reflected on the painful loss of her fiancé, Eddie Rothe, to lung cancer in 2021. As reported by OK!, the performer detailed a particularly tough period for Jane came in 2002, at a time when she was enjoying the height of her early fame and living in Florida with her second husband and manager Henrik Brixen. Despite previous years of sell-out performances, including shows in Las Vegas, and the anticipation of a new album and a BBC documentary, Jane found herself penniless. Article continues below This financial crisis led to the end of their five-year marriage and saw Jane returning to Wakefield at the age of 40 to start over, moving back in with her mother. She reflected: "I've had a few sticky moments and I've taken a lot of risks in my life, but I don't do fear any more". She then added: "I've been there, I've seen it, I've done it. I've got the T-shirt, I've washed it, I've dried it and then I've got another. "[Back then] I thought, 'I've had a chance at this [career] and it's gone, but I'll get it back.'". Jane faced her fair share of challenges but remained unaffected, reviving her presenting role on Loose Women from 2004 and rekindled her love for music. By 2010 she was gracing the stage of the London Palladium once more, and the following year she was topping the bill on her own tour. Jane McDonald returns to host at The Hackney Empire in London for The British Soap Awards 2025 (Image: ITV ) Later branching out into television with her successful series, Cruising With Jane McDonald, which took home a Bafta in 2018, and Jane McDonald And Friends, Jane climbed to new professional peaks, and post a 45-date cruise tour, she was looking forward to a tranquil retirement alongside her partner Eddie. Yet, the end of 2018 brought the devastating news of her mother Jean's death, closely followed by the "sudden and shocking" loss of Eddie, marking a time of sorrow. Jane spoke of this tough phase in her life, acknowledging: "The two guiding lights in my life were Ed and my mother and I suppose losing both of them so quickly together was the hardest thing I've ever been through. "But I've joined a club of so many people who were in my position. I say to anybody now, 'Don't wallow for too long.'". "[Grief] takes a while and it will creep up on you when you least expect it, but if you can chase joy as much as you can, it's allowed. You don't have to feel guilt if you're laughing. Because we do. "We think, 'I can't possibly feel happy because I've lost them,' but we have to live the life that they wanted for us. Otherwise, what was the point?". "So I've taken every bit of wisdom from my mother - and she had lots of it - and all the love and all that fantastic relationship I had with Ed and I celebrate it now, I take them with me. "It's a way of accepting that you cannot change what's happened, but taking all that with you and moving forward. "Not moving on, because that means you're leaving them behind, but moving forward with them in your heart." After experiencing numerous highs and lows, including seeking help from a PTSD specialist due to difficulties in facing daily life, Jane did not find solace in writing about her past errors and recent sorrows. She confessed: "I didn't find it cathartic at all. I thought it was awful. I hated every minute of it because I'm not good at going back. I'm really not good at going back. Jane with her late fiancé Eddie (Image: Dave) "I'm really not good at saying, 'Oh, I failed at that and I failed at this.' But I suppose what is good is that I can say I did fail massively at this, but this is what I did to get out of it. "My world fell apart so many times, but this is what I did instead. I really hope it's going to help others, especially those coming into the industry." Jane recognised that grief had deeply changed her, but it also provided her with a new perspective on life. "It changes who you are," she mused. "It changes your life. It changes your plans. It robs you of every future you planned. But now I've got a different future and I intend to make it the best I possibly can. "I'm at that pace now where I'm 110 miles an hour, but I intend to slow down because life's gone like that [clicks her fingers]. You know, it's a big shock, losing Ed as quickly as I did, and it made me think, 'How many summers have I got left?'. Article continues below "I want a house by the sea, I want to sit on a deck and watch the waves, or go for a walk on a beach, or sit with a scarf around me and drink a cup of tea. I want all of that. I've now got this chance to have an amazing life with Ed in [my heart] and I intend to do that." You can watch The British Soap Awards 2025 on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on Thursday evening, June 5.

Tom Felton to reprise role as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and The Cursed Child
Tom Felton is reprising his role as Draco Malfoy for the Harry Potter And The Cursed Child play. The Surrey-born actor, who starred in all the film adaptations of JK Rowling's fantasy novel until the last movie in 2011, will make a comeback as Harry Potter's school bully on Broadway at the Lyric Theatre in New York later this year. The production said he was the 'first actor from the films to reprise' their role on stage, and this will be Felton's Broadway debut. (Emilio Madrid/Harry Potter And The Cursed Child) He said: 'Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life. 'Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I'll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. 'It's surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. 'I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community.' PA Media Tom Felton arriving for the world premiere of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone at the Odeon Leicester Square in London. Felton, 37, made his West End debut in the supernatural thriller 2:22 – A Ghost Story in 2022. He will begin his run in Harry Potter And The Cursed Child on November 11 for a limited 19 weeks, the production said on Thursday. Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said: 'It's not lost on us that this is a cultural moment charged with nostalgia, evolution, and emotion. 'Tom's return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story. We're beyond thrilled to welcome Tom back 'home' but also into a new family: our Broadway company. 'We can't wait to see him inhabit this role once again with the same depth, gravity, and humanity he has always brought to Draco.' PA Media Tom Felton starred in the original Harry Potter movie series alongside Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. The play, written by Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne, began in 2016 in London and has had a Broadway run since 2018. It was co-devised by Rowling, and is set 19 years after the events of the seventh and final book, with Ministry of Magic employee Harry and his wife Ginny Weasley waving off their youngest son Albus Severus to school. The two-part play, which stretches over five hours, sees Albus struggle at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with the weight of his family legacy and go to extreme and dangerous lengths to right the wrongs of the past. Since the ending of the film franchise, Felton has been in 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and had recurring roles in the TV series Murder In The First, The Flash and Origin. He has also used his voice in the Harry Potter video games, based on the movie, and featured in the special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who played Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The seven Harry Potter books are set to be brought to the small screen by HBO, with production beginning at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in summer 2025. The young stars have been cast with Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron, while the new Draco has not yet been confirmed. Earlier this year, British actor Paapa Essiedu and US star John Lithgow were confirmed as the cruel Professor Severus Snape and Hogwarts headmaster Professor Albus Dumbledore, respectively. Also joining is Welsh comedian and actor Paul Whitehouse as the magic-less Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch, and Hot Fuzz actor Nick Frost as the friendly groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid. Orlando Bloom wants to ‘get the band back together' for Pirates Of The Caribbean
The 48-year-old, who plays Will Turner in the Disney film franchise, told ITV's This Morning there is a chance the cast could reunite for a new instalment. Asked if more Pirates Of The Caribbean features are possible, he said: 'Well, I don't know, I can't say anything at the moment because I really don't know, but there's definitely availability. 'I think they're trying to work out what it would all look like, I personally think it'd be great to get the band back together, that would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we'll see where it lands.' Bloom also spoke about his latest film Deep Cover, which will be released on June 12, saying he took inspiration from Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher when constructing his character. A post shared by This Morning (@thismorning) The Kent-born actor said: 'When I read in the script that (his character) was a northern I was like, 'who's the iconic northerner that I know?'. 'Growing up I went to Knebworth and seeing Liam and the boys, the whole band, but Liam, he's just got that swag, hasn't he? 'I thought if I can get even close to that, I'd have a lot of fun trying, and it sort of lent itself, and I kind of imagined that (he) was sort of this desperate, out of work actor, maybe he worked at like a costume house or something. 'So he'd get really into the costume and what he was wearing, and the Liam look and everything, so it was a really great way into the character, and I had a lot of fun with it.' The Pirates Of The Caribbean series has seen five feature films: The Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003); Dead Man's Chest (2006); At World's End (2007); On Stranger Tides (2011); and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017); along with the short film Pirates Of The Caribbean: Tales Of The Code: Wedlocked (2011). The series is based on the Disneyland attraction of the same name, and follows the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp. It has also spawned a number of video games.
