Radhe Jaggi highlights significance of Indian weaves

Hans India12 hours ago
Visakhapatnam: Interest in Indian textiles began when people around would share stories behind each weave, their origin, print, colours incorporated, and artisans who designed them, recalled Radhe Jaggi, renowned classical Bharatanatyam dancer and yoga practitioner.
At a session organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organisation (FICCI FLO) in Visakhapatnam, Radhe Jaggi reflected on how her fascination for Indian weaves grew to a point where, for her wedding, she asked for a sari representing every weave from Andhra Pradesh. 'I encourage women here to do the same. Learn about these weaves and pass the knowledge on to their daughters,' she suggested.
The conversation revolved around Radhe Jaggi's upbringing as a spiritual leader and founder of Isha Foundation Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev's daughter, her journey through dance, yoga and meditation, her work at project Samskriti, her passion for Indian weaves, and beyond. Elaborating about handlooms and their historical trace, Radhe Jaggi stressed upon the need to inculcate Indian fabrics in day-to-day clothing in order to protect tradition and weaves.
The session marked the first initiative of the newly-launched Vijayawada chapter of FICCI FLO in Visakhapatnam and the organisation intends to expand its presence across Andhra Pradesh by hosting programmes in entrepreneurship, mentoring and capacity building to women.
Chairperson of FICCI FLO Amrita Kumar, said, 'The chapter brings together strong women from both Vizag and Vijayawada and when strong women come together, magic happens.' The session was conducted by Amrita Kumar and the chapter's day chair Rajini Chitra. Among others, skill development and financial literacy, support for micro, small, and medium enterprises and women led startups, corporate leadership and governance training, promotion of women in creative industries are some of the key areas of focus of the FLO.

Delhi HC says early bail hampers PMLA probe, denies relief to businessman

The Delhi High Court has denied anticipatory bail to a Hong Kong-based Indian businessman in a PMLA case and said giving the reprieve prematurely impedes investigation and undermines the objective of anti-money laundering law. Justice Ravinder Dudeja denied the relief to Amrit Pal Singh in a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case. Singh was the director of Broway Group Ltd, which was the alleged beneficiary of "fraudulent" foreign outward remittances amounting to USD 2,880,210 (approximately Rs 20.75 crore), originating from Indian shell entities. These transactions were made under the guise of import goods, without any actual corresponding business activity, the ED alleged. "Custodial interrogation may be warranted to ascertain the applicant's role in facilitating or benefiting from the alleged money laundering operation. Premature grant of bail would impede investigation and compromise the statutory objectives of the PMLA," the order read. The court on July 1 further noted that Singh's conduct, marked by sustained non-cooperation despite issuance of repeated notices, weighed heavily against the grant of pre-arrest protection. "His non-appearance in response to summons and evasion of investigation reflect a lack of bona fides and do not inspire confidence in his willingness to cooperate with the authorities... Notably, there is no denial on the applicant's part regarding the receipt of summons, yet he consistently failed to appear and evaded the process of law on untenable pretexts," the judge added. Criminal proceedings against the accused's company, the court said, were still at an initial stage.

INR gains further ground at around 1-month high

The Indian rupee appreciated 16 paise to close at an over one-month high of 85.39 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, tracking a decline in the American currency in the overseas market and a weak tone in crude oil prices. Besides, rupee alongside other Asian currencies, gained ground on renewed hopes of trade deals with the US. Meanwhile, the benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex ended the session up 193.42 points, or 0.23 percent, at 83,432.89, after having hit a low of 83,015.83 during intraday trade.
