Forget 'mindfulness' fads, having a good old-fashioned vacuum and declutter may be the best route to improving your state of mind.
Recent years have seen many of us embracing all kinds of quirky "wellness" trends to live healthier, happier lives. However, new research shows a major secret to happiness may be incredibly simple - keeping a clean and organised home.
The survey found 71% of people feel that having a clean home puts them in a better mood, while 65% say that having clean floors positively impacts their stress levels.
Additionally, 64% experienced a greater sense of peace of mind, and two in five felt having a clean home meant they had better sleep.
Nicola Lewis, decluttering & organising expert, said, "This research reinforces the conversations that I have with people every day around how a clean home makes them feel. Not only do people see the immediate impact from their regular cleaning, but they're also seeing a deeper, more emotional benefit that a clean home brings."
Keeping a tidy home can even help us work when not in the office as 83% of the 1,000 surveyed said they felt more productive and focused after cleaning their home.
In fact, an overwhelming 88% agreed that a clean, organised space fosters a clear, focused mind, reducing stress and promoting a sense of calm and control.
The research was commissioned by the product design and technology firm SharkNinja (https://sharkninja.com/), who suggest that we should be adding cleaning to our therapeutic options to support our self-care routines.
James Kitto, the firm's Managing Director (UK&I), added: "Our research clearly demonstrates that the benefits of a clean home extend far beyond just a visually appealing space. It's about creating an environment that supports emotional wellbeing, productivity, and positive relationships."
The research was commissioned as the company release their high-performance Shark PowerDetect Corded Stick Vacuum Cleaner (https://sharkclean.co.uk/).

The issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission indicates that more than 50 of the reported injuries were second or third-degree burns to the face or body. Twenty-six lawsuits had been filed at the time the advisory was published. Health Canada is advising all owners to check if their multi-cooker is impacted by the recall. Products affected by the recall were sold between January 2019 and April 2025. More than 184,000 products were sold in Canada and 1.8 million were sold in the United States. The U.S. advisory said the products were available for purchase at Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club, Amazon, and Target, as well as on Ninja's online store.
