The ceremony is a tradition as before when hand and horse-drawn engines and wagons could not be backed into a station once a call was finished. Fire departments had to routinely unhitches the horses and push the engine back into the bay.
During the event, firefighters will anoint the new engine by wetting it down before its first usage in the community.
The current engine will then be placed into reserve as a part of the LFD fleet.
