CONCOR launches bulk cement transport using specialized tank containers; first consignment dispatched from Andhra Pradesh to Bengaluru
Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) has introduced a new logistics solution for the cement industry by launching specialized tank containers for bulk cement transportation in loose form.
The company announced that the first real-time movement of these specialized containers has commenced from My Home Cement Siding (MMHM) at Mellacheruvu in Andhra Pradesh to CONCOR's Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Whitefield, Bengaluru.
This development marks a major milestone in CONCOR's efforts to offer eco-friendly, cost-effective, and efficient logistics solutions. The initiative is expected to reduce the cement industry's reliance on traditional bagged transport, promoting faster and safer movement through India's rail network.
CONCOR highlighted that this shift aligns with India's goal of advancing green and multimodal logistics while enhancing operational efficiency for cement manufacturers. The company plans to continue expanding such solutions to serve key sectors of the Indian economy.

Exclusive-India snaps up steeply discounted palm oil from Colombia, Guatemala
By Rajendra Jadhav MUMBAI (Reuters) -Indian importers for the first time bought palm oil from Colombia and Guatemala as producers sitting on surplus stocks offered cargoes at steep discounts, four trade sources with direct knowledge of the matter said. Indonesia and Malaysia dominate global palm oil supplies and are the main suppliers to India, which imported 9 million tons of palm oil in 2023/24. Colombia and Guatemala, the fourth- and sixth-largest producers of palm oil, usually export their surplus stocks to Europe and North America. Rising production in the two Latin American countries and their ability to divert their supplies could weigh on benchmark Malaysian palm oil futures, industry officials said. Colombian and Guatemalan cargoes were offered at steep discounts on a free-on-board (FOB) basis to ensure their landed cost at Indian ports remained lower than supplies from Malaysia and Indonesia, said a Mumbai-based dealer at a global trading house, who declined to be named in line with company policy. Indian buyers prefer quick shipments, and the shipping time from South America is about 45 days, but the discounts were enough to lure them, the dealer said. The landed cost of South American palm oil at Indian ports was more than $10 per ton lower than supplies from Indonesia and Malaysia, another Mumbai-based dealer said. Crude palm oil (CPO) is currently being offered at about $1,165 a ton, including cost, insurance and freight (CIF), in India for October delivery. Freight to ship palm oil from the Americas is about $90 per ton, compared with $45 from Southeast Asia, said Sandeep Bajoria, chief executive of Sunvin Group, a Mumbai-based brokerage. Vessels will be loaded at South American ports in September to arrive at India's Kandla port in October, said a New Delhi-based dealer. Latin America exports half of its 5 million tons of palm oil, and India's first purchases from the region could open the door to more supplies, said Aashish Acharya, vice president at Patanjali Foods Ltd, a leading importer of edible oils. Palm oil demand has been rising and will remain robust in the coming months due to the festival season in India, Acharya said. Festival season starts in September and sees increased demand for edible oils to produce sweets and fried foods. Demand usually dips again during winter months. India passes bill to ban money-based online games, app shutdowns loom
By Aditya Kalra and Aftab Ahmed BENGALURU (Reuters) -India's parliament on Thursday passed a bill to ban online games played with money in a move that threatens the survival of the popular fantasy gaming sector, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government flagged the high risk of financial harm. The sudden ban has shocked an industry backed by venture capital firms like Tiger Global and Peak XV Partners and which was set to be worth $3.6 billion in India by 2029. Executives fear imminent job losses and a complete shutdown of many app-based businesses which attracted billions from foreign investors. The bill prohibits "harmful" online money gaming services, advertisements and financial transactions related to them, with the government also citing the psychological harm they can cause. "It is the duty of the government and the parliament to take strict action against social evils, which keep erupting time and again," federal IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in parliament on Thursday. India's upper house of parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025 after the lower house cleared it earlier this week. The president must sign the bill into law which, although there is no set date, is considered a formality. Indian gaming groups are holding discussions with lawyers about approaching the Supreme Court to challenge the ban by citing a lack of consultation, the impact on the thriving industry, and how some games being banned like poker are skill-based and should be exempted, two gaming industry sources with direct knowledge of the matter said. Endorsements by top Indian cricketers and other marketing efforts have boosted the appeal of apps such as Dream11 and Mobile Premier League, where virtual cricket teams are created based on real players, earning points based on the runs, wickets and catches of an actual match. Dream11's app on Thursday showed it cost as little as 29 rupees (33 cents) to create a team and join a "prize pool" which is then split among thousands of winners with a top payout of 300,000 rupees ($3,438). Dream11 commands a valuation of $8 billion while Mobile Premier League is valued at $2.3 billion, PitchBook data shows. Other popular gaming apps in India include Games24X7, which offers card games like rummy and poker, Zupee and WinZO. The new bill states that anyone who offers money games after the law comes in force could face a jail term of up to three years and a fine.
