Trump Creates Bonkers New Justification for Fascist D.C. Takeover
The Justice Department announced a criminal investigation into the Washington police department Tuesday to determine whether the law enforcement bureau had manipulated data to make crime in the city seem lower than officers have claimed, reported The Washington Post.
Donald Trump had highlighted the conspiracy the night before. 'D.C. gave Fake Crime numbers in order to create a false illusion of safety,' he wrote on Truth Social Monday night, confirming the existence of the probe.
'This is a very bad and dangerous thing to do, and they are under serious investigation for so doing!' he continued. 'Until 4 days ago, Washington, D.C., was the most unsafe 'city' in the United States, and perhaps the World. Now, in just a short period of time, it is perhaps the safest, and getting better every single hour!'
Trump deployed 800 National Guard members to Washington and federalized the capital's police department last week to combat what he described as a crime-riddled hellscape. To justify the government infringement, the president pointed to rising crime rates, immigrant populations, and homelessness—though the figures he used were from 2023, before violent crime plummeted across the country.
More recent numbers from the Metropolitan Police Department told a remarkably different story: crime in the nation's capital was actually down 35 percent in 2024 compared to the year prior. The decline tracked with a nationwide crime drop that saw homicide rates plummet across the country. They have continued to descend this year.
'According to local police data, violent crime is down 27 percent over this time last year, with homicides down 11 percent,' reported the Post.
Those digits were sunny enough that FBI Director Kash Patel used them to pat the Trump administration on the back during a press conference last week, claiming that the 'plummeting' homicide numbers were thanks to the president's policies.
'We are now able to report that the murder rate is on track to be the lowest in U.S. history,' Patel said at the time, unraveling Trump's rationale for forcing MPD and the D.C. National Guard to take over the nation's capital moments after the president announced the directive.
On Monday, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that the administration had made nearly 400 arrests since the beginning of the operation. At least 160 of those arrests were undocumented immigrants, reported ABC News.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is no stranger to manipulating data. Another branch of the government—the Bureau of Labor Statistics—is on its own quest to cook up flattering jobs numbers after its July report indicated that the job market had steadily lost employment since Trump announced his 'liberation day' tariff plan.

Since the president launched a takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department, deployed federal law enforcement from agencies like ICE and the FBI and sent in National Guard troops nine days ago, the District has had little choice but to comply with a crackdown — based predominantly on the president's whims — while tackling the uncomfortable political realities of crime here. 'You hear these people out here screaming 'Free D.C.,' Vance said. 'Let's free D.C. from lawlessness. Let's free Washington, D.C., from one of the highest murder rates in the entire world. Let's free Washington, D.C., so that young families can walk around and feel safe and secure. That's what we're trying to free D.C. from.' Vance and Miller — who have both been publicly critical of diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and the broader racial justice movement — cast the protesters in racial terms, calling them out for being white and not having a true understanding of crime in the city. 'It's kind of bizarre that we have a bunch of old, primarily white people who are out there protesting the policies that keep people safe when they've never felt danger in their entire lives,' Vance said. Although troops and law enforcement have been highly visible in the city's tourist hotspots — which are generally high-traffic, low-crime areas — the White House says enforcement crackdowns are concentrated in Wards 7 and 8, which are majority-Black and have the highest crime rate in the city. POLITICO could not independently confirm the White House's analysis. 'We're going to ignore these stupid white hippies,' Miller said. 'They all need to go home and take a nap because they're all over 90 years old, and we're going to get back to business protecting the American people.' Miller called the protesters 'crazy communists' who 'have no connection to this city.' He promised to add 'thousands more resources to this city to get criminals and the gang members out of here.' Trump nine days ago invoked a provision of the Home Rule Act, the 1970s law that grants limited self-governance to the District, to demand the services of the Metropolitan Police Department to assist the federal government during 'special conditions of an emergency nature.' But Vance said he was 'highly skeptical' of that poll. 'I don't know what poll you're talking about, maybe the same poll that said Kamala Harris would win the popular vote by 10 points,' he quipped. But doing so required her to ignore the reason for the governor's recent mockery of Donald Trump's social media style and insisted Newsom is just being a copycat. Many people on social media mocked Perino's complaints about Newsom's posts because many of them are direct copies of previous Trump posts. As a result, she faced accusations of hypocrisy and having a partisan double standard where mean tweets are concerned. National Guard vehicle, car collide in DC
A National Guard vehicle collided with a civilian car early Wednesday morning approximately a mile away from the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department said in a statement that the crash occurred at the intersection of 8th Street SE and North Carolina Avenue SE. The civilian driver was trapped in the car, rescued and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, the statement said. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said officers responded to reports of the crash at 6:18 a.m. EDT and 'upon arrival officers discovered a two-car accident involving a government vehicle.' The driver was 'conscious and breathing' when taken to the hospital for 'non-life-threatening injuries,' MPD said. The military vehicle was a D.C. National Guard Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle and was part of a five-vehicle convoy and an MPD cruiser, the National Guard said in a statement reported by local news outlets. The National Guard is investigating the incident, the statement said. Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) was asked about the incident at a press conference later Wednesday and said, 'I actually haven't gotten a readout on that collision yet, other than I know we had a person, I believe one person transported for medical attention. So I can't really say more,' NewsNation reported. The incident comes after President Trump ordered hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., in an effort to crack down on crime in the nation's capital. Several Republican governors have joined his effort, bringing the total number of troops in the city to nearly 2,000.
