BREAKING NEWS Brian Wilson's cause of death revealed days after Beach Boys icon's shock passing aged 82
Wilson's children announced his death on the singer's official Instagram page on Wednesday June 11 - a year after it emerged that he had been diagnosed with a neurocognitive disorder similar to dementia.
Per a death certificate obtained by TMZ, Wilson died from respiratory arrest - which occurs when the heart is still beating, but the lungs stop functioning, making it impossible for the person to get oxygen.
Wilson was also suffering from a litany of other health issues at the time of his death, with infections sepsis and cystitis also listed on the certificate.
Associated factors include neurodegenerative disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic respiratory failure and chronic kidney disease.
The God Only Knows hitmaker shot to fame as the frontman of the Beach Boys, for which he served as the principal songwriter as well as the co-lead vocalist.

Wilson formed the Beach Boys in 1961 with his brothers Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and their friend Al Jardine.
The original name of the band was the Pendletones, and they exploded onto the scene with their 1961 song Surfin', written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love.
Over the course of the 1960s the group became one of the most beloved in America, releasing albums like Surfin' Safari, Surfin' U.S.A. and Surfer Girl.
Their 1966 hit God Only Knows was branded 'the greatest song ever written' by Beatles legend Paul McCartney.
Along with their pioneering musical style, the band also conjured up an intoxicating image of a carefree California lifestyle of sunshine, palm trees and sea air.
However Wilson's involvement with the Beach Boys shifted dramatically when he suffered a nervous breakdown in 1964, followed by two more in the next couple of years.
He promptly withdrew from touring but retained his backstage control of the band as a writer and producer, masterminding their 1966 magnum opus Pet Sounds and providing lead vocals on many of the tracks.
Pet Sounds struggled commercially at first, but ultimately earned a reputation as one of the most acclaimed pop albums ever created.
Last February, shortly after his wife Melinda's death, Wilson's family filed to obtain a conservatorship of him, announcing his diagnosis with a dementia-like condition.
They said he often made 'spontaneous irrelevant or incoherent utterances,' had a 'very short attention span and while unintentionally disruptive, is frequently unable to maintain decorum appropriate to the situation,' in documents obtained by The Blast.
Melinda, the family argued, had been attending to Wilson's 'daily living needs' and her absence had left him 'unable to properly provide for his own personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.'
The last time Wilson was seen in public was April 2024, when he emerged looking frail in a wheelchair to attend a Los Angeles Lakers game.
News of his death provoked an outpouring of grief from his fans, including Elton John, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood, Micky Dolenz, the Backstreet Boys, Randy Bachman and John Lennon's sons Julian Lennon and Sean Lennon.
Wilson's survivors include his daughters Carnie, 57, and Wendy, 55, whom he had with his first wife Marilyn, as well as the five children he adopted with Melinda, who are called Dakota Rose, Daria Rose, Delanie Rose, Dylan and Dash.

Outrage as Chrissy Teigen appears on Meghan's Netflix show despite telling a teenage reality star to take her own life - so, how has she joined the royal inner circle?
The trailer for the second season of Meghan Markle's lifestyle show was released yesterday and it featured a number of celebrity cameos - but one in particular left viewers with a bitter taste. With Love, Meghan follows the Duchess of Sussex, 44, as she hosts her famous friends in a rented California bungalow close to her and Prince Harry's Montecito mansion. While Mindy Kaling was the most high-profile guest last season, Netflix appears to have upped the ante by recruiting a slew of stars to improve its lacklustre reception after the first edition of With Love, Meghan failed to break into the Top 300 most popular shows of 2025 so far. This season's roster of guests inclues Queer Eye star Tan France, self-help and wellness influencer Jay Shetty, and celebrity chef David Chang. However, the inclusion of Chrissy Teigen has cast a shadow over the season - even before its release - after outraged Netflix fans highlighted the former Sports Illustrated model's bullying row. In 2021, John Legend 's wife Chrissy faced severe backlash after abusive tweets by the star - dating back to 2011 - resurfaced online. In one, she told then-16-year-old Courtney Stodden - who identifies as they/them - to kill themselves. While the star has since apologised, it appeared fans have yet to fully forgive Chrissy for the disparaging tweets towards Courtney after they spotted her in the nearly two-minute trailer. Royal fans will remember that Meghan's former best friend, Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney was seemingly axed from the Duchess's inner circle after the stylist ' threatened' black influencer Sasha Exeter in a row over white privilege in 2020. Meghan and Jessica, who first connected while on the sets of Suits in Toronto, were thick as thieves before the controversy led to a fallout that has meant the pair haven't been seen together in five years. Despite their close relationship, insiders claimed that the Duchess had permanently cut ties with Jessica in 2020, after she became embroiled in a 'feud' with lifestyle blogger Sasha. The clash, which occurred in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement and the death of George Floyd, saw Jessica 'take offence' to a 'generic call to action' post Sasha had shared about the movement before threatening to sue her. According to Sasha, she and Jessica then argued about the importance of 'speaking up'. Sasha said she felt Jessica 'threatened' her during the argument, claiming the mother-of-three had written to her: 'I have also spoken to companies and people about the way you have treated me unfairly. You think your voice matters. Well it only matters if you express it with kindness and without shaming people who are simply trying to learn. Good luck.' In a follow-up video, Sasha, also from Toronto, said: 'What happened next was a series of very problematic behaviour and antics. 'I'm by no means calling Jess a racist but what I will say is this: She is very well aware of her wealth, perceived power and privilege because of the colour of her skin and that, my friends, gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing. Textbook white privilege really, in my personal opinion.' Despite the bullying controversy - which saw Chrissy step away from Mindy's hit Netflix show Never Have I Ever - she has been close with the Duchess, especially after the Sussexes relocated to California in 2020. Now, her appearance on the forthcoming season of With Love, Meghan has called their friendship into question after several people highlighted how the Duchess has championed for stricter online safety regulations while speaking out against cyberbullying. Last October, Meghan reportedly described herself as being 'one of them most bullied people in the world' during a meeting with teenage girls at the youth leadership organisation Girls Inc in Santa Barbara. Earlier that year in August, Harry and Meghan's Archewell Foundation launched the Parents' Network in support of 'parents who have first-hand knowledge of the pain and destruction caused by social media use '. Netflix viewers highlighted the irony of roping in Chrissy, who said she was 'ashamed and completely embarrassed' by the tweets in her public apology to Courtney, for the show helmed by Meghan - who has consistently spoken out about children's digital safety. 'She advocates against online bullying then has Chrissy Teigen it make sense Netflix,' one X user wrote. Another message read: 'How can Meghan Markle associate with Chrissy Teigen, a self-confessed online bully and troll who purports to suport the Parents Network who are campaigning against this very thing?' 'This round may destroy her,' one X user added. 'Chrissy Teigen guests this season. WTF thought she was a good idea?' Chrissy's forthcoming appearance on With Love, Meghan has called their friendship into question after several people highlighted how the Duchess has championed for stricter online safety regulations while speaking out against cyberbullying. 'How do you have a charity for the parents of children who took their lives due to social media bullying but be besties with Chrissy Teigen and feature her in your show? I'm truly baffled.' The Daily Mail has reached out to Meghan's representatives for comment. Courtney incurred relentless bullying both publicly and in private from Chrissy, who tweeted at the then-teen in 2011: 'My Friday fantasy: you. dirt nap. mmmmmm baby', followed by: 'go. to sleep. forever.' Old tweets from 2013 have also resurfaced in which she described nine-year-old Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis as 'cocky' and called Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham, then 21, a 'wh*** '. And ironically enough, Chrissy had stated that she was leaving Twitter before the scandal erupted because she was experiencing too much 'negative' abuse. 'This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively … I've always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I'm just not,' she said. After the barrage of tweets came to light and people called for the model to be 'cancelled,' she issued an apology to Courtney - who was catapulted into the spotlight as the teen bride of the much older Green Mile actor Doug Hutchinson. 'Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bulls**t in front of the entire world. I'm mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel,' she began. 'I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I'm so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am,' she wrote. Meghan's friendship with Chrissy, 39, dates back to the late 2000s when they worked together as models on the TV game show Deal or No Deal at the start of their careers, showing off briefcases containing prizes for contestants. Speaking to You Magazine back in 2018, Chrissy said: 'I am especially a fan of Meghan. I was on Deal or No Deal with her and she was lovely. Now everyone asks me what she was like and I say, "Sorry, no dirt. She's gorgeous".' In the interview, she also revealed that she had pre-ordered the Duchess' cookbook Together, which contained recipes from women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire. She added: 'It's beautifully done and you can tell how important it is to her. You see how she interacts with people and gets down to eye level with kids.' 'She is really wonderful and so kind, and just as kind as everyone says she is. She's a really wonderful girl.' Back in 2014, Chrissy and Meghan were snapped alongside Nina Agdal and Shay Mitchell in New York City as they participated in the DirecTV Beach Bowl at Pier 40. The event gathers A-list celebrities, models and athletes for a competitive game of American football. Meghan and Chrissy can be seen posing and holding a trophy together. It is thought that Chrissy and Meghan's friendship has grown since she and Prince Harry relocated to California. Chrissy was also part of the 50 'jamfluencers' - or celebrities - who received the first batch of Meghan's strawberry jam when she 'soft-launched' her lifestyle company as American Riviera Orchard last year, before it was rebranded to As Ever. At the time, the model and her husband, All of You hitmaker John, tried the jam in a recipe on Instagram - claiming that the meal was 'one of the best bites we've had all year' and made them 'happy' for the entire weekend. Chrissy also praised the former senior royal for being 'wonderful and so kind' by reaching out to her with a touching letter when she was going through a tough time. The mother-of-four said on the Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen After Show: 'She's been so kind to me ever since we connected, she had written to me about baby Jack and loss. 'She is really wonderful and so kind, and just as kind as everyone says she is. She's a really wonderful girl.' Both Meghan and Chrissy suffered tragic personal losses in 2020; while Meghan recently spoke of her grief after a miscarriage that year, Chrissy shared she underwent a life-saving abortion that she initially thought was a miscarriage in October. At the time, the model and her husband, All of You hitmaker John, tried the jam in a recipe on Instagram - claiming that the meal was 'one of the best bites we've had all year' and made them 'happy' for the entire weekend From working as models together on Deal or No Deal to relying on each other for emotional support during tough times in their lives, it seems Meghan and Chrissy also have a shared love of food. The latter previously told You that she had pre-ordered the Duchess' cookbook Together, which contained recipes from women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire and was released in 2018. 'It's beautifully done and you can tell how important it is to her,' she heaped praise on the Duchess. 'You see how she interacts with people and gets down to eye level with kids.' Chrissy was asked what Meghan was like on Deal or No Deal by Andy Cohen, to which she responded: 'Everyone wants a good story, and I'm like, I just remember very quiet and sweet. I got kind, and I don't say that about anybody.' At the time, she was also asked about her explosive tell-all chat with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. The model, who waited before watching the Oprah chat, admitted that it was 'very eye-opening'. Chrissy said: 'I think when I ended up watching it, it was like, 'Holy s***, this is big.' 'But I also waited a long time to watch it, so I had already heard so much about it by the time that I got to it. But yeah, it is - I mean, very eye-opening. Very eye-opening.' Asked whether she had any 'extra tea' surrounding Meghan's interview, Chrissy insisted: 'Extra tea? Um, no. Honestly, no. 'She's been very open about what she's been open with, and I think honestly her truth has been her truth since the very beginning. So, no, I didn't get any extra extra.' Meghan and Harry's bombshell interview sent shock waves around the world as the couple laid bare the extent of their rift with the Queen and other senior royals. Chrissy revealed that she had spoken to Meghan after the interview aired but wouldn't disclose what she said.

Mystery surrounds Selena Gomez's no-show at Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's vow renewal - after joked they were a throuple
Mystery has surrounded Selena Gomez's whereabouts at Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's vow renewal on August 2 after she was noticeably absent. The trio have formed an incredibly close bond over the past few years, with Selena cementing their closeness when she joked they were in 'throuple' back in 2023. Once plastered all over each other's social media with gushy photos, Selena's no-show and failure to acknowledge her 'best pals' has cast doubt over their once 'inseparable' friendship. Selena's unusual absence was highlighted further when the singer's friend Dominic West was on the guestlist and pictured with the couple. Selena's former assistant Theresa Mingus was also reportedly in attendance. The actress, who has publicly shared birthday and anniversary tributes for the pair in the past, also failed to congratulate the couple on their big day on social media and chose not to like any of the couple's posts. The snub was drawn to attention when she happily posted pictures on Instagram from Lil Ducky's nuptials earlier this week after attending with her fiancé Benny Blanco. One source connected to the wedding told Daily Mail: 'Selena wasn't there but there were lots of guests who were on the Peltz payroll, she hasn't even said congratulations anywhere public which is very, very unlike her. The trio formed an incredibly close bond over the past few years, with Selena cementing their closeness when she joked they were in 'throuple' back in 2023 (pictured together in 2023) 'There was a time when Selena was helping Nicola through her fall out with the Beckhams, maybe she has got fed up with that now.' Daily Mail has contacted Selena, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz's representatives for comment. Despite her absence, Selena is said to have been comforting Nicola through the Beckham feud. It was reported the actress has been distracting Nicola with wedding plans for her upcoming nuptials to Benny. 'Selena is always there for her friends if, and when they need anything,' an insider told exclusively. 'She has been messaging Nicola and trying to keep her mind off the drama. 'She has been talking about her upcoming wedding and loves getting Nicola's advice.' Selena and Nicola were inseparable since striking up a friendship in late 2022 when they met at the Academy Museum Gala. Her friendship with Brooklyn dates back to 2015 when they were pictured together at New York Fashion Week. Many of the guests were affiliated with Nicola - a far cry from their first wedding, where both families took front and centre The snub was drawn to attention when she happily posted pictures on Instagram from Lil Ducky's nuptials earlier this week after attending with Benny Soon followed gushing declarations of their bond, including matching outfits and even 'angel' tattoos. So close are the pair that Selena even joked that she was in a 'throuple' with Nicola and Brooklyn after the trio rang in the New Year together in Mexico in 2023. Brooklyn jokingly confirmed this during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show in March, describing Selena as 'such a sweet girl.' 'I love when my wife makes new friends, especially really great friends,' he said. 'You know, we all get along.' Selena wasn't the only notable star absent from Brooklyn and Nicola's vow renewal. His parents, David and Victoria Beckham and siblings Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14, were all missing from the 200 people guest list. His grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles were also absent and only found out about the wedding vow renewal by reading it online. The brothers absence was reportedly down to a series of online 'trolling' from the duo, according to those close to Brooklyn and Nicola. A friend told The Mirror: 'Brooklyn's brothers have been fanning the flames... they've openly made fun of and trolled Brooklyn in comments on social media.' Daily Mail has contacted Brooklyn, Nicola and the Beckhams' representatives for comment. Brooklyn and wife Nicola, who first wed in 2022, said 'I do' for a second time in Westchester County in front of her family who had key roles in the day, with the Beckham clan nowhere in sight. Nicola wore her 70-year-old mother's vintage 1985 bridal gown for the big day, while her father Nelson, 83, was given the key role of officiating. Brooklyn become increasingly estranged from his family since he snubbed his father's 50th birthday, and now, the family fear it's a final kick in the teeth. A source told The Sun: 'This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. 'His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them.' The source added: 'It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that. This is a family who feel they have lost their precious boy - and see no way back. 'Honestly, they are now questioning why he even wants to keep the 'Beckham' surname - will he revert to Peltz? August 2nd 2025 - is this the day Brooklyn formally declared himself no longer a part of the Beckham family? It certainly feels like it.'. As well as Posh, Becks and his brothers, Brooklyn's sister Harper, his grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles were also absent and only found out about the wedding vow renewal by reading it online (family seen before feud) Brooklyn and Nicola first tied the knot in a lavish £3million ceremony in 2022, when relations first began to sour with his parents in the run-up to the big day. After shunning a dress made by her fashion designer Victoria mother-in-law in favour of a Valentino gown in 2022 - a choice which wasn't well received - Nicola once again snubbed the Spice Girl and wore her mother Claudia's vintage wedding gown. It is a poignant message to Posh and Becks', whom he and Nicola have grown increasingly estranged over recent months. All the while the Beckhams were said to be upset by the Peltz's in 2022 who they felt were taking over the wedding. And ever since their first big nuptials in April 2022, the two families have not reunited and Nicola has rarely been pictured with the Beckhams.
