Former Wisconsin basketball star impresses in key NBA draft combine statistic
Former Wisconsin basketball star John Tonje showcased his shooting prowess during the first day of the 2025 NBA draft combine.
Tonje, who delivered a historic 2024-25 season leading the Badgers, displayed the efficiency that Wisconsin fans became accustomed to during his tenure in Madison. The North Omaha, Nebraska, native finished the first day of the event having made 72% of his shots, ranked fifth-best of all participants. Only Alabama's Mark Sears, Tennessee's Chaz Lanier, Gonzaga's Ryan Nembhard and Memphis' PJ Haggerty accumulated a more efficient shooting percentage during the first day of action. Notably, Tonje was one of eight players to shoot at least 70% during the first day of drills, per ESPN NBA draft analyst Jonathan Givony.

While reflective of only the combine's first day, the mark could prove noteworthy for Tonje's draft stock. The 2025 Naismith Player of the Year Semifinalist was recently projected to fall to No. 47 to the Milwaukee Bucks. An impressive performance at the combine could certainly alter his position on draft boards ahead of the June 25 event.
Tonje's ceiling makes him an appealing second-round prospect, and his ability to impact the game from both inside and beyond the arc could transfer to the NBA level. Tonje's most likely route to a regular roster spot would be to become a reliable two-way bench asset, a luxury for any team in the draft's second round.
The UW star averaged just under 20 points per appearance in 2024-25 while shooting 46.5% from the floor, 38.8% from outside and 90.9% from the foul line. A 37-point outing against BYU in the NCAA Tournament, 32-point performance against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament and 41-tally performance against Arizona in November showcased his offensive capabilities, something scouts may look towards when evaluating his position as a professional.

Tonje's status in the combine will be something to monitor throughout the coming days. While projected lottery picks may not have much to prove, players in Tonje's bubble can still bolster their standing.

The latest domino to fall in the recruiting efforts of the Wisconsin football program is Jack Sievers, a tight end from Archbishop Murphy in Everett, Washington. Tight end coach Nate Letton and offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes take a nice step towards rebuilding the tight end room. The new Wisconsin tight end announced his commitment to the Badgers on his X account. An additional benefit of Sievers' commitment to the Badgers is the hit the Minnesota Gophers took. The 3-star TE also had an official visit lined up with the Gophers on June 13th. Securing a pledge from a top target before they visit a rival program is always a significant advantage. Sievers is also scheduled to visit Boise State next weekend. Scouting Report on Jack Sievers Greg Biggins, a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports recently published this scouting report on Sievers: Sievers is one of the region's top two-way players, and we really like the multi-sport background he brings to the table. A talented tight end who can really run and has a frame ready for the college game. Also, a talented edge rusher and good enough to play on either side of the ball in college, but is being recruited predominantly as a tight end. Shows strong hands, can win 50-50 balls, and does a nice job catching the ball through contact. Strong in-line blocker who can manhandle an opposing edge or linebacker and has the toughness and physicality you love to see at the tight end position. Flashes very good straight line speed and runs well enough to separate down the field, and will be a major weapon in the vertical passing game. Used quite a bit out of the backfield on end arounds and shows the speed to turn the corner and pick up chunks of yards. Clocked a personal best 11.08-100-meter time this Spring and is a standout hooper who averaged a double-double in points and rebounds as a junior. Needs to continue to refine his route running and become a little more fluid in his ability to get in and out of his breaks, but the traits are there and he has a chance to be very good player at the next level. Jack Sievers in the Recruiting Rankings 247Sports has Sievers listed as the 33rd-ranked tight end in the country and the 5th-best player in the state of Washington. According to the online recruiting service, Sievers is the 717th-overall prospect, the 41st-ranked tight end, and the 6th-best player in the state. The 247Sports Composite, which compiles the grades from around the internet, has Sievers as the 658th-ranked prospect nationally in the 2026 class. He is the 34th-ranked tight end and 5th-ranked player in Washington. Despite not being ranked very highly, Sievers has offers from a handful of Power 4 teams, including offers from Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Boise State, and Cal, among others. The addition of Sievers now gives the Badgers 10 commitments in their 2026 class, and replaces Carmelow Reed as the Badgers' top-rated recruit after Reed flipped his commitment to Ole Miss. 'I Think ESPN Is Going To F*** The Show Up': Bill Simmons Didn't Hold Back When Expressing His Worries About Inside The NBA's New Era

As the Indiana Pacers clinched their first trip to the NBA Finals in over two decades, it was all shown during Inside The NBA's final broadcast on TNT. The long-running show had been on the network since 1989, and it will resume on ESPN this fall as part of a historic deal. While some may be happy the series will still be on the 2025 TV schedule, longtime sports analyst Bill Simmons isn't optimistic about the new era of the beloved basketball show. Advertisement Inside The NBA has long been known for its wild antics, which occasionally make host Ernie Johnson feel like a "rogue traffic cop." But, during an installment of The Bill Simmons Podcast, the eponymous host claimed that the move to ESPN could ruin the show. Surprisingly, it's not because he's of the thinking that the Disney-owned network would try to keep Charles Barkley from saying wild stuff, but because of the way it runs commercials: I think ESPN is going to fuck the show up. I don't care if I get they completely change how they do commercials. The show's going to be different and people are going to be pissed. And Barkley and those guys are going to be pissed and I think it's going to go badly. It's funny that Bill Simmons knew he'd make waves with his comment, as he was likely aware of the immense pull that he has in sports broadcasting. Of course, it's still just an opinion, and do we really believe Charles Barkley would've renounced his retirement if he thought Inside The NBA would flop on ESPN? Probably not, but it's always possible that Barkley and the rest of the Inside crew weren't thinking about the fundamental way the show could change beyond censorship issues. Bill Simmons went into that, noting the way ESPN currently conducts its NBA coverage, and how it would need to change to be closer to what's been seen on TNT for decades: The only way it doesn't go badly is if they do the commercials and they give them the lengthy segments that you need to have that show work. They're going to have to change how they do it. They just paid so much for the NBA, that if they don't do that and they do these same short, terrible segments that you're about to see in the Finals, where it's like a one-and-a-half-minute halftime and a twenty-minute pregame. If they do that, they're going to fuck the show up and everybody's going to be mad. If they mess with any piece of this, everybody's going to be mad. All this being said, fans have yet to see a single episode of Inside The NBA on ESPN. There's even a part of me that feels like Bill Simmons is only putting his opinion out into the world so that someone making decisions on how the program will run next season and can react appropriately to ensure no one is mad. Advertisement More On Inside The NBA Shaquille O'Neal on Inside The NBA on TNT Charles Barkley, Shaq And The Inside The NBA Crew Got Family Photos Done, And They Went All Out While Bill Simmons is right that ESPN's basketball coverage does thrive on brevity and is very commercial-heavy, the network does house shows with long segments. First Take, The Pat McAfee Show, and others have very long blocks where people are talking. Maybe some of those segments can get just a bit shorter so that the network can let Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley do their thing. It'll be several months before we see what ESPN does, as Inside The NBA is officially off the air until the new NBA season kicks off in late October. I want to stay optimistic that the show will remain as fun as it has been in past years, with more moments like Shaq running to the bathroom and getting roasted by the rest of the panel. Until I'm proven otherwise, that's where my head is at, and I'm going to hope for the best. For now, know that the NBA Finals kick off on ABC on Thursday, June 5th at 8:30 p.m. ET. It should be an exciting series for those who love basketball, so be sure to check it out and wonder what Charles Barkley might have to say about it during the championship series.

Liam Doyle by the numbers for Tennessee baseball in 2025 Knoxville Regional No. 14 national seed Tennessee (46-17) advanced to a super regional in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Vols will face No. 3 national seed Arkansas (46-13) in the Fayetteville Super Regional. The Razorbacks won the Fayetteville Regional and did not lose in three contests. Tennessee won the Knoxville Regional on Monday, defeating No. 2 regional seed Wake Forest (39-22), 11-5, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle made his second appearance for the Vols in the Knoxville Regional on Monday. He pitched 2.1 innings and recorded five strikeouts versus Wake Forest. Doyle totaled 31 pitches, including 19 strikes, against seven batters. He did not allow a hit, run or walk against the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest hit two fly outs in his relief appearance. PHOTOS: Tennessee versus Miami baseball in Knoxville Regional Against Miami University in Game 1, Doyle pitched 6.2 innings and recorded 11 strikeouts. He totaled 104 pitches (69 strikes) against 26 batters. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior allowed four hits (two doubles), one run and three walks.
