Udupi court cancels bail of accused for violation

The Udupi Principal District and Sessions Court cancelled the bail granted to Raghavendra Kanchan alias Raghu Barikeri based on a report filed by the Kota police which stated about the latter being named as the accused in two cases of 'hate content' posts. In the statement, the Kota police said Kanchan was among the persons arrested on February 7, 2019, in connection with a murder case. The police filed the charge sheet, and he was named as accused No. 9. The case was pending with the trial court for recording the statement of accused. On June 28, 2023, the High Court allowed his criminal petition and granted bail. It directed Kanchan not to leave jurisdiction of the trial court without permission and not to indulge in criminal activities. A case was registered by the Mangaluru police against him for allegedly posting an old video of SDPI leader Riyaz Farangipet's speech in Hindu Jagaran Vedike Kota WhatsApp group and hurting communal sentiments. As he continued to indulge in criminal activities, a separate case was registered at the Kota police station. Based on the police report, the Udupi court passed an order to cancel bail to Kanchan. The Udupi police will initiate similar action if criminal elements on bail continue with criminal activities, the police said.

Mumbai bizman gets 1-year RI for outraging modesty of bank employee during address verification visit

Mumbai: In a case that serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by women in the workplace, particularly when their duties require them to interact with clients in unsupervised settings, a magistrate's court recently convicted and sentenced a 54-year-old Malad businessman to one year of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for outraging the modesty of a female bank employee who had to visit his home. The woman, a deputy manager, visited the accused, Narendra Sagvekar's residence for address verification as part of the bank's account opening protocol. "In this case, I came to the conclusion that when the informant was on her duty and went to the house of the accused for his address verification, the accused was at home alone and applied force on her and outraged her modesty. The informant is a bank employee. At the time of the incident, the informant was 27 years old. Admittedly, it is an offence of moral turpitude. The accused committed an offence of moral turpitude, therefore, he is not entitled to get the benefit of probation," Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate BN Chikne said while refusing to let off the accused on a bond of good behaviour. The accused was also fined Rs 1,000. He was out on bail. The magistrate said that though there were loopholes in the investigations, the sole testimony of the woman was credible and unshattered, despite intensive cross-examination. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Struggling With Belly Fat? Such incidents can cause a great deal of disruption in her life. Therefore, an Indian lady thinks 100 times before exposing herself before society. In this case, the delay has been properly explained by the informant," the magistrate said. The magistrate also acknowledged that incidents of this nature, occurring within the confines of a private space, often lack eyewitnesses. "It is (also) difficult to believe that only because the accused did not reply to the WhatsApp message of the informant 'Hi', the informant lodged the false report against the accused. There is no motive at all for the informant to lodge a false complaint against the accused," the magistrate said. The incident occurred on Nov 27, 2020. Sagvekar visited the branch on Nov 26, 2020, to open a bank account. He provided his PAN card and Aadhaar card but failed to produce a photograph. As per bank rules, address verification at the customer's residence was required. On Nov 27, 2020, at approximately 12.30 pm, the woman arrived at the accused's residence. The accused was alone. After the procedures when she was about to leave, the accused "suddenly used criminal force on the informant with an intent to outrage her modesty by kissing her on her neck, cheek and holding her tightly, he was touching her whole body". The woman pushed him away and managed to escape. She returned to her bank branch and reported the ordeal to the bank manager, operations manager, and a colleague. She subsequently lodged a report with the Malad Police Station. The accused was arrested on De 17, 2020, and released on bail two days later. During the trial, the prosecution examined four witnesses, including the woman and other bank employees.

City resident duped of Rs 6.67 lakh in online trading scam

Times News Network Chandigarh: The cyber cell of the UT Police filed a case against unknown persons for allegedly duping a city resident of Rs 6.6 lakh on the pretext of providing high returns on investment in online share trading. After taking the money, the fraudsters neither delivered profit nor returned the money. No arrest has been made in the case so far. Anil Parkash Dubey, 55, a resident of Sector 32, Chandigarh, said that he received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number on May 12. The caller claimed to represent a company involved in share market trading. After explaining the process, the caller sent a registration link on WhatsApp. Upon contacting the numbers he provided, the complainant was instructed to transfer funds. Initially, he "invested" Rs 10,000 and earned Rs 1,500 profit. Subsequently, he invested Rs 3 lakh. Later, he received a WhatsApp call requesting additional payment for IPO shares, leading to a further transfer of around Rs 3.6 lakh totalling around Rs 6.6 lakh. The accused told him to purchase shares worth Rs 44 lakh in the new IPO. They claimed that his previous IPO profits plus current holdings amounted to Rs 22 lakh and requested an additional Rs 22 lakh for share allocation. However, the victim refused to transfer more money and demanded the money he had invested with profit. However, the fraudsters kept asking for Rs 22 lakh more. At this point, Dubey realised that he had been conned and filed a complaint at the cyber police station. The complainant also provided transaction details and phone numbers of the suspects to the police. After verifying facts, police registered a case and are trailing the transactions made by the victim. MSID:: 122922527 413 |
