Titans announce John Fassel as special teams coach among staff changes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have hired veteran assistant John Fassel as their special teams coordinator among some changes to coach Brian Callahan's staff announced Monday.
Fassel replaces Colt Anderson, who lasted only one season on the job as special teams coordinator. Fassel will be joined by Rayna Stewart, who followed him from Dallas as assistant special teams coach. The Titans also hired Tony Oden as passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach on defense. Luke Stocker has been promoted to tight ends coach.
Tennessee also announced that Chris Harris, who had been the passing game coordinator and cornerbacks coach, tight ends coach Justin Outten and assistant special teams coach Anthony Levine had expiring contracts and won't return.
Fassel worked with the Cowboys between 2020 through the 2024 season, helping Dallas rank among the NFL's best on special teams. Three of his players earned six Pro Bowl berths, including returner KaVontae Turpin and kicker Brandon Aubrey this season. The Cowboys set an NFL record in averaging 32.1 yards per kickoff with Turpin leading the league with 33.5 yards per kickoff return. He also had a 60-yard punt return. Aubrey was second in field goals made.
Fassel also has been special teams coordinator for the Rams between 2012 and 2019 and the Raiders between 2009-2011. He was the Rams' interim head coach for the final three games of the 2016 season. He started as a special teams assistant with Baltimore in 2005 through 2007 and was assistant special teams coordinator in 2008 in Oakland before being promoted. The son of late NFL coach Jim Fassel also was head coach at New Mexico Highlands from 2003 to 2004.
Stewart worked with Fassel the past three seasons in Dallas. This is his third stint with the NFL franchise that drafted him in the fifth round in 1996. He also played for Miami and Jacksonville before going into coaching in 2007. Then-Titans coach Jeff Fisher hired him as a defensive quality control coach in 2009. Stewart also worked at Vanderbilt between 2015 and 2018. He went to Green Bay as special teams assistant in 2019 through 2021 before going to Dallas.
Oden has 19 years of NFL experience coaching and eight more in college. He spent the past four seasons with the New York Jets as senior defensive assistant for cornerbacks. He also has coached with San Francisco in 2020, Miami in 2018-2019, Detroit between 2014-17, Tampa Bay in 2013, Jacksonville (2012), New Orleans between 2006-2011 and Houston in 2004-2005.
Stocker started with Tennessee as an offensive assistant in 2023 under then-coach Mike Vrabel. Callahan had Stocker helping Outten with tight ends in 2024, and now he replaces Outten. Stocker played 11 seasons in the NFL with Tampa Bay, Tennessee, Atlanta and Minnesota after being a fourth-round draft pick in 2011 by the Buccaneers.

We have everybody back and added some pieces in the skill group. That makes it easier. I took a lot more responsibility last year, and I am taking even more ownership of it. "When it comes to those checks at the line of scrimmage, it makes it a lot easier with the guys being back. They know when we get this blitz, and I am going to check to this play, it's second nature for them. When people don't have to think about it, it's a lot better." That means, as he states, that everyone can play faster, and in turn, this will lead to good things happening far more often. Advertisement Yes, there will be tweaks here and there, as Grizzard is a first-time play-caller, something he is working on during OTAs and mini-camp this week. Still, some might overlook that Mayfield and the offense aren't starting from scratch for a change. They know the nuts and bolts of it, which means more time can be spent ironing out the details of an offense they already understand. Some are sleeping on the Buccaneers in 2025 due to another coordinator change for Baker, but as we have just detailed, things won't be changing that much. So expect another good season from the defending NFC South champs despite the changes. Andrew Billings hosts fourth annual football camp
WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — Andrew Billings is getting set to enter his eighth season in the National Football League, but before suiting up for the Chicago Bears he made sure to return home to Waco to hold his fourth annual Andrew Billings Football Camp. Giving a free opportunity for local kids to hone their skills with an NFL Veteran, but it's just as rewarding for Billings himself. 'It's really good to be back and doing it for the community,' Billings said. 'It's great for me because I get to have fun watching them out here running and stuff and to me that's the job.' Camps like these were not around when Billings was growing up but he vividly remembers a player for the New York Giants visiting Waco High when he was a high schooler, so he knows how much of an impact he can have on these young players. 'It would be important to me if I was a kid so I just try to take that and run with it,' Billings said. 'If I was in their shoes how would I like it because I would love to be out here with a defensive lineman from the NFL.' The goal of any camp like this is of course, to make sure everyone has fun but Billings is doing his best to make sure an afternoon like this one develops kids as a player and as a person. 'It's having fun and training for football but it's also communication,' Billings said. 'You got to work together, stay in line and have all these different activities and for the older kids the one on ones are important because a lot of them have aspirations to go to college and do various things with football and out of football.' The camp is a part of the Billings Find-a-Way Family Foundation that Andrew Billings made a point to start, and now it is enriching the community he grew up in. 'We've been doing bikes and books for a couple of years with various schools,' Billings said. 'It's something I always wanted to start and always thought about doing but didn't find a way until later in my career but once I did I'm doing it and I'm sticking with it.' Billings efforts in Waco aren't slowing down anytime soon because he is never losing sight of where home is. 'My life is tied around Waco,' Billings said. 'A lot of people in my life are from Waco so it's somewhere where I always have to come back and I always have to give back because it's given me so much.' Speaking to reporters during Eagles voluntary workouts, Davis detailed how he was preparing himself to be more than just a first- and second-down run defender. 'Not even just (coach) Clint Hurtt, but (teammate) Nolan Smith has been teaching me things. "When it's just stuff like that, learning stuff from different players and coaches, they want you to be your best at pass rush. They want you. They expect that from you." Davis had his fifth-year option picked up by the Eagles this offseason. … in anticipation of getting more from him. In his first three seasons with the team, he managed to record just 3.5 sacks. Philadelphia will need a jump up from a former first-round pick from that kind of production.
