chief Lalu Prasad's elder son on Wednesday named Shankar Kumar Yadav as the candidate for the Maner seat, currently represented by Bhai Birendra of the party.
Following his expulsion from the RJD in May after he revealed his relationship with another woman, the former state minister has turned a "rebel" and has begun declaring candidates against the party in a direct confrontation with his father's party.
Launching a verbal attack on Birendra, the former minister appealed to the masses to defeat him in the next elections and elect a new leader who could serve the society.
"The bull has been roaming freely and he needs to be bridled," Tej Pratap said, obliquely referring to the sitting RJD legislator, while addressing a meeting in Maner. "The love and support that the people of Maner have shown to the Team Tej Pratap Yadav today is unparalleled and unique. I express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the people who joined the meeting," he said.
Last week, he declared Jay Prakash Yadav as the candidate for the Ghoshi assembly constituency in Jehanabad, currently represented by Ram Bali Singh Yadav of CPI(M-L), part of the state's opposition Grand Alliance. Prior to that, he named Madan Yadav as the candidate for the Shahpur assembly constituency in Bhojpur district, currently held by RJD leader Rahul Tiwari.
Tej Pratap has not spared his younger brother Tejashwi Prasad Yadav either and launched an attack on him for undertaking the Voter Adhikar Yatra.

Bihar CM Nitish sparks controversy after declining to wear traditional ‘topi' at madrasa event
The chief minister, who has long cultivated a secular image, has ruled Bihar for two decades in alliance with the BJP, except for two stints when he partnered with the RJD and other allies as part of the grand alliance. Despite his BJP ties, Nitish has launched several welfare schemes for the minority community, including building boundary walls around graveyards, which helped him secure support from sections of Muslims. During his speech, Nitish drew a contrast with the earlier RJD regime, saying: 'No work was done for Muslim community before 2005.' This is not the first time Nitish has drawn attention with such gestures. On earlier occasions, he has avoided someone garlanding him by taking the garland and putting it back on the person. In 2013, he said: 'To govern a country like India, you have to take everyone along; sometimes you will have to wear 'topi' and sometimes 'tilak' (kabhi topi bhi pehenni padhegi, kabhi tilak bhi lagana padega).' Earlier in the day, a group of madarsa teachers protested outside the venue, alleging they had not received salaries for months. They accused the state government of ignoring the poor condition of madarsas across the state. Tension escalated after Nitish's address, as teachers waved pamphlets and demanded action on salaries and pending commitments.

In sixth visit to Bihar this year, PM to visit Gaya, unveil bridge over Ganga in Mokama
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit poll-bound Bihar again on August 22 to address a public meeting and unveil projects worth several thousand crores of rupees in Gaya, and inaugurate a six-lane bridge over the Ganga in Mokama. This would be Mr. Modi's sixth visit to the State since January. The election to the 243-member Bihar Assembly is coming up in October-November. Incumbent Deputy Chief Ministers and State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with BJP leader and Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Cabinet, were in Mokama on Thursday (August 21, 2025) to oversee the newly constructed 1.86 k.m. long six-lane Aunta (Mokama)-Simaria (Begusarai) bridge, which will connect Patna to Begusarai and other districts. The bridge, being built at an estimated cost of ₹1,871 crore, is designed with a single segmental structure having a 34 metre-wide deck; span lengths ranging from 57 metres to 115 metres; and 70 metre cantilever arms. The bridge on National Highway 31 has been constructed parallel to the decade-old, two-lane Rajendra Setu bridge, currently under repair. Mr. Modi has earlier this year visited Motihari, Bhagalpur, Madhubani, Rohtas and Siwan districts to address public meetings, lay foundation stones, and unveil several large projects for the State's development. There was nothing 'unusual' in the Prime Minister's regular visits to the election-bound State, the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) maintained. 'This is election year in the State and every party leader would come to address public meetings. Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and other constituent parties' leaders too are moving across the State,' JD(U) spokesperson and party leader Neeraj Kumar said. Congress leader and party spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari had another view. 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi should come, but he should also speak on the basic issues confronting the State since long, like unemployment, migration. and deteriorating law and order,' Mr. Tiwari said. 'He (the PM) should also speak about the chaos and confusion over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the State,' RJD leader and former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav had said earlier. Congress leader and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and Mr. Yadav, along with leaders of allied parties are currently on a 1,300 km-long 'Voter Adhikar (rights) Yatra' across 25 districts of Bihar, which would culminate in Patna on September 1 with a rally at the city's historic Gandhi Maidan.

Current govt formed through 'stolen votes', indifferent to people's issues: Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that the current government was formed through "stolen votes" and urged people to choose a dispensation that is "truly yours, takes responsibility and is accountable to you". In a post on X, Gandhi shared a five-minute video of him conversing with the youth of Aurangabad in poll-bound Bihar during his 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' and said people must use the power of their votes to protect Mother India and the Constitution. He asserted that a clean voter list is the cornerstone of free and fair elections and asked the people of Bihar not to let their voting rights slip away, as all their other rights rest on this very who was accompanied by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, told the youngsters that their votes were being "stolen" and the names of living people were being struck off the electoral rolls by declaring them "dead". He also asked them about their thoughts on GST, demonetisation and what they would like to change in Bihar, to which the group said that it was the government. He also shared a message in Hindi, along with the clip, in which he said, "Dear voters of India, I want to ask you a straightforward question -- can a government formed by stealing votes ever have the intention of serving the public? No, right! They don't even need your votes, so they don't care about your problems either." He said record-breaking unemployment is ruining the future of the youth, but "the government keeps filling the coffers of capitalists", thus proving its indifferent attitude."Scams like NEET, SSC, and paper leaks have destroyed the careers of millions of students. The government has simply turned a blind eye! Inflation is touching the sky, making life unbearable for the common man. Yet, the government keeps increasing taxes! "Train accidents and the collapse of basic infrastructure like roads and bridges have led to the untimely deaths of hundreds of innocent people. But the government hasn't even fixed accountability. From Pahalgam to Manipur, incidents of terror and violence have occurred -- hundreds have died. The government has taken no responsibility," he that demonetisation, Covid, and the farmers' movement claimed millions of lives, the Congress leader alleged, "The prime minister didn't offer help, let alone show empathy! Why? Because this government wasn't chosen by you; it was formed by stealing votes."Whether you live, die, or suffer -- it makes no difference to them. They are confident that, whether the public votes or not, they will come back to power through theft," he said. "Choose your government -- one that is truly yours, takes responsibility for you, and is accountable to you. Protect Mother India and the Constitution of the country with your vote," he added. PTI
