The store was established around 100 years ago by James Harvie and was then taken over by Bob's father, John.
Mr Macfarlane, 71, took the helm in 1985 before taking it over full-time 30 years ago.
According to The Gazette, he said: "My dad previously owned a bakery in the area before buying this shop.
"He probably never thought the tobacconist would outlive the bakery, but here we are.
"While I worked elsewhere, my dad ran the store for around 18 years.
"Originally, I was only meant to be working here in between jobs, but it became a passion."
The tobacco shop specialises in cigars, pipes, lighters and other accessories.
He added: "The biggest differences over the last 40 years are that there are less folk smoking and less customers coming into the shop due to everything being online.
"The town centre is generally a lot quieter than when I first started.
"I previously had two staff, but now only have one person who helps me out a single day each week, just due to demand."
Limerick locals come together to buy only village pub and save it from closure
Mr Macfarlane is looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren and playing more golf.
The shop owner is also keep to pencil in a few family holidays and some cycling.
MrMcfarlane revealed would like someone to buy the business and hopes the new owner keeps the trade alive.
He concluded: "There have been many memorable moments, but I don't think they could be printed."

Fury as train fares could soar by inflation-busting 5.8% next year despite services getting WORSE

Some season tickets could rise by an eye-watering £247 IT'S SO UNFARE Fury as train fares could soar by inflation-busting 5.8% next year despite services getting WORSE Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TRAIN passengers could face a 5.8 per cent fares rise next year, even though punctuality is the worst since 2020. It would see the price of a Liverpool-to-Manchester annual flexi ticket jump by £120.30 to £2,195.10. The RPI is calculated by looking at the prices of 700 products and services but also includes mortgage interest payments and council tax. Fare rises could see a Woking-to-London season ticket soar by £247 to £4,507. Meanwhile, punctuality is at its lowest in more than five years. The Office of Rail and Road found trains reached 66.7 per cent of station stops on time in the year to July 19 — the worst since the year to May 2020. Labour is nationalising operators as contracts expire, with South Western Railway and c2c now under public ownership. Ben Plowden of Campaign for Better Transport said: 'The fundamental question for the Government is how to use its role in setting fares policy to deliver a more affordable network and encourage customers.' Shadow Transport Secretary Richard Holden said: 'Labour's election promises ring hollow as passengers are hit with inflation-busting rises on top of cancelled trains, driver shortages and chaos on the network.' The Department for Transport said an update on fares will be released later this year. Peak rail fares scrapped by John Swinney
