INNSBRUCK, Austria, June 15, 2025 /CNW/ -- "As cyberattacks evolve, detection can't be a checkbox. Our 2025 EDR/XDR Certification helps CISOs assess how effectively their tools uncover stealthy, real-world threats."- Andreas Clementi, ceo and founder, AV-Comparatives
This independent evaluation tested enterprise cybersecurity solutions under advanced threat scenarios. The goal: to assess their ability to detect and report real-world attacks with precision and visibility.
Read the full test here: https://www.av-comparatives.org/news/edr-detection-validation-2025/
Unlike, e.g. the EPR Test, which focuses on prevention, the EDR test simulates complex attack scenarios to assess how well a product detects and logs each stage of an intrusion, providing insights into its visibility, telemetry quality, and threat detection precision. Threat visibility based on threat hunting capabilities is also considered.
AV-Comparatives is pleased to announce that five out of seven solutions have achieved certification so far under our transparent and rigorous methodology.
Certified Products – EDR, XDR and MDR Solutions
The following products earned certification in the 2025 test round
CrowdStrike Falcon Pro
ESET PROTECT Enterprise Cloud
G DATA 365 MXDR (MDR solution)
Kaspersky Next EDR Expert (in the pilot test)
Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR Pro
One Methodology for EDR, XDR and MDR
While initially designed to evaluate EDR and XDR capabilities, the test can equally be applied to MDR (Managed Detection and Response) offerings. In this round, G DATA successfully participated with their MDR solution, demonstrating that even managed offerings can be assessed under realistic, controlled attack conditions.
A Focus on Real-World Visibility
This evaluation simulates Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks, using known Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) from frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK. All products were tested in monitoring mode only, meaning prevention features were disabled. The goal: to measure how well threats are detected and reported, not blocked.
Highlights of the methodology:
Execution of complex attack chains
Validation of detections via alerts in the management console or through manual threat hunting in telemetry
Transparent certification model: only products meeting the detection threshold are certified and publicly listed
Methodological Improvements and the Road Ahead
The 2025 test incorporated feedback from independent analysts, resulting in greater transparency, enhanced scoring, and deeper telemetry validation. Further enhancements are planned for the 2026 certification test.
The EDR Detection Validation Test is open to EPP, EDR, XDR, and MDR vendors seeking independent validation of their detection capabilities. Certification offers vendors industry recognition and deep technical insight into their solution's real-world performance.

£200k-a-week contract offer will seal SENSATIONAL striker deal

Liverpool have got plans to move on from Darwin Nunez this summer. The Uruguayan striker only managed five Premier League goals during their title-winning campaign and has largely fallen out of favour with head coach Arne Slot. Speculation has been rife over the last few weeks that the 25-year-old will be sold - as long as Richard Hughes' demands are met. It appears £70m will do the trick for potential suitors although Nunez is being selective about his next destination. Shop the LFC Store The new LFC x Air Max range 🔥 Nike x Air Max LFC x Nike Air Max Advertisement Buy Now LFC Retro Shirts LFC Retro Shirts Buy Now Home Jersey LFC Kits Buy Now LFC Nike Training LFC Nike Training Buy Now Al-Hilal have been knocked back by the No9 - with Nunez holding out for a club in one of Europe's top leagues. It could be AC Milan or Napoli in Italy - and Atletico Madrid have also been reported as suitors. And if Darwin leaves, it would leave a gap up top for a new forward. Top of the list is reportedly Victor Osimhen. Transfer talk has increased in recent weeks over the Nigerian - who is coming off a sensational season in the Turkish Super Lig with Galatasaray. Liverpool like Victor Osimhen The 26-year-old scored 37 times in 41 games overall for Cimbom - helping fire them to the league and Turkish Cup double. Napoli still own Osimhen's playing rights - with the player having spent the season on loan in Turkey. Advertisement He is only under contract until 2026 - meaning Osimhen is available for a fraction of his true transfer value this summer. That sum is reported to be €75m - not a million miles off what the Reds are seeking for Nunez. But the sticking point has always been Osimhen's salary. Indeed it's been previously reported that the Super Eagles sensation was seeking £400k per week from his next club. However, there appears to be a thaw in that stance as Osimhen makes sacrifices to land a Premier League move. © IMAGO Osimhen salary demands SLASHED In an item discussing Manchester United's interest in the former Lille frontman, Foot Mercato claims that Osimhen's salary requests now stand at €12m per year. Advertisement 'Talks have resumed very recently under the conditions discussed a few weeks ago, namely a salary of €12 million for the player and compensation of €75 million including bonuses for Napoli, the club that owns the player,' writes Sebastien Denis. That equates to around £200k per week - HALF of what was previously out there. So if Liverpool can conduct an outbound deal for Nunez - who earns around £140k per week - it means a deal for Osimhen won't break the bank. Indeed there is a tantalising prospect that Hughes could SWAP Osimhen for Nunez in a sensational deal with Napoli. Nonetheless this latest update suggests that Osimhen is no longer out of reach due to his pay packet.

No, Toyota Didn't Build A Water-Powered Car

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM - JANUARY 13: Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell car at Brussels Expo on January 13, ... More 2023 in Brussels, Belgium. The Mirai is one of the first hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles to be sold commercially. (Photo by Sjoerd van) Over the past two weeks, multiple people have sent me a story about a supposed water-powered car and asked for comment. The story varies, but one widely shared version on Facebook claimed: 'In a move that will shake up the global auto industry, Toyota has just unveiled a water-powered engine powered by hydrogen created through electrolysis — emitting only water vapor! No lithium. No charging stations. Just pure disruption.' This is pure nonsense, but I have been hearing similar stories for decades. I believe the first version I ever heard was that a brilliant inventor had invented a car that ran on water, but the oil companies bought the patent. Or otherwise made the man disappear. These claims are revived every few years, so let's clear this up. Although water can be an energy source, it is not a fuel. Water is actually the combustion product of hydrogen, which is a fuel. Water is produced when hydrogen is burned. Water can function as an energy source in some situations. Falling water can produce electricity via hydropower, and moving ocean water can produce electricity via tidal or wave power. But water as the power source for a vehicle is nonsense. Consider the claim above. A 'water-powered engine', which is immediately contradicted by the phrase 'powered by hydrogen created through electrolysis.' Is the latter phrase technically viable? Yes, but it misses two issues. First, the power source--the fuel--is actually hydrogen. Energy as electricity is being put into the water to split it apart and create the hydrogen (and oxygen). In other words, hydrogen (via electricity) is the power source, but water is a power sink. More importantly, where is the energy coming from to create the electricity for the electrolysis? In this scenario, that would likely have to come from a battery. But such a scenario would be inefficient, because each energy conversion stage involves efficiency losses. That's basic thermodynamics. Rather than use a battery to produce hydrogen via electrolysis, which then has to be converted into energy to power a car, it would be far more efficient (and practical) just to use the initial electricity directly without the conversion steps. There's no question that Toyota has been very active in developing hydrogen vehicles. The confusion seems to stem from a real announcement by Toyota last year. The company filed a patent for a water-cooled hydrogen combustion engine. That's a very different thing than a car that runs on water. In Toyota's design, the engine runs on hydrogen, not water. The claimed innovation lies in the cooling system. Instead of relying on traditional radiators or air cooling, Toyota's system injects water directly into the cylinders. This helps control the high combustion temperatures associated with hydrogen and allows the use of lighter engine materials—ultimately improving efficiency and reducing weight. But the vehicle still requires external hydrogen refueling. It doesn't split water into hydrogen onboard, and it's not powered by water. The term 'water engine' in this case refers to the cooling system, not the fuel source. The recurring claims of a water-powered car make for great clickbait, but they don't align with the laws of physics. Water doesn't 'release' energy as a fuel. It requires some other energy source to convert it into a fuel. That doesn't mean hydrogen-powered vehicles aren't technically viable. They are, and Toyota has been a pioneer in that space. But hydrogen needs to be produced, stored, and delivered, and every step in that process consumes energy. So no, Toyota hasn't built a car that runs on water. They just patented a potentially better way to cool a hydrogen engine. And while that may be good engineering, it's not the miracle of free energy people envision when they read and share 'water-powered car' stories. The real story is more nuanced—and far more grounded in science. It's just not as click worthy.
