New contender emerges at tight end in the race to make the Eagles roster

New contender emerges at tight end in the race to make the Eagles roster A trusted Eagles insider highlighted a relative unknown at tight end, and by the looks of things, everyone else ought to also pay attention.
Here's the most obvious statement you'll hear all week. There is a ton of talent on this Philadelphia Eagles team. The face of the franchise, their quarterback, is the reigning Super Bowl MVP, and believe it or not, you could talk about this roster for hours before you ever bring his name up in the discussion.
Every position on the defense features an All-Pro or a star in the making. The offense is loaded with game-changers. A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, and Dallas Goedert can score on any given play.
The offensive line is the best in the business. Much of the young core is locked up and under contract for the foreseeable future. This is an exciting time to be an Eagles fan. Conversations about the depth will dominate the summer, and they may have found some in one of their young tight ends.
Add Nick Muse to the Eagles' training camp and preseason watch list
Though it isn't discussed as often now as it was when the news was fresh, one of the best stories of the offseason came when everyone learned that Dallas Goedert will remain in Philadelphia to play out the final year of his current deal before potentially entering the free-agency conversation next offseason.
His backup is a former sixth-round selection who enters his fourth season at the professional level. Grant Calcaterra seems assured of a roster spot. The question is who the third guy might end up being.
NBC Sports' Reuben Frank recently mentioned Nick Muse in his Roob's Observations column, mentioning a recent catch as one of the offseason's highlights:
"Why are we even talking about Nick Muse? Because at the last OTA practice on Tuesday, he made the best catch of the spring, laying out to make a diving snag of a Kyle McCord pass. Muse also had a sweet TD catch from McCord earlier in the same practice. Those catches came after TV cameras had to shut down, so you'll never see them. But they were eye-opening."
Muse, like Calcaterra, was drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, albeit 29 spots later and in Round 7. He played his college ball with the William & Mary Tribe during the 2017 and 2018 NCAA seasons before transferring to the South Carolina Gamecocks and logging three seasons in the SEC.
His professional career began with the Minnesota Vikings, but he won a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Eagles' practice squad last season. Now, he earns his opportunity to battle for a roster spot, but the climb won't be easy. Philadelphia has seven tight ends on the preseason roster, and Muse is battling E.J. Jenkins, Cameron Latu, Kylen Granson, and Harrison Bryant for what, in all likelihood, is one spot on the roster.

Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Has No Words for Historic CWS Feat

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of the best players in the NFL. He is also going to go down as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. While he has made his name from playing football, Mahomes is a big-time fan of other sports. He is always seen attending other sporting events or commenting on them. That was the case once again on Monday as he watched the College World Series. He now holds the record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game and recorded the third no-hitter in men's College World Series history. In response to the impressive performance, Mahomes took to social media to share a response. His response didn't even include words. When Mahomes speaks, people listen and take notice. Even in something as small as a reaction to a moment in a game, his words matter. Mahomes is in the middle of gearing up for the 2025 NFL season. After the Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl and lost last year to the Philadelphia Eagles, they're looking to get back to winning rings. They have extra motivation following the blowout loss to the Eagles. On the outside looking in, Kansas City looks like a top-tier contender. Mahomes has a lot of weapons to work with and Travis Kelce decided to come back for another season despite rumors about his potential retirement. Last season, Mahomes completed 67.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also ran for 307 yards and two more scores. They also weren't where Mahomes would have wanted them to be, especially with the season ending in a Super Bowl loss. It's clear that Mahomes is enjoying what's left of his offseason and the College World Series, but football will soon take center stage. Hopefully for Mahomes and the Chiefs, another run to the Super Bowl will be in store in 2025 and will end in a different result from last season. Rams offense ranked just outside top-10 ahead of 2025 NFL season

Rams offense ranked just outside top-10 ahead of 2025 NFL season The Los Angeles Rams brought back a mostly intact offense for the 2025 NFL season. The trio of Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams remain the figureheads, while the offensive line is still sound except new starting center Coleman Shelton, who returned to the team after a few years away. The biggest difference will be the addition of Davante Adams for Cooper Kupp. It's never easy to replace a veteran legend, but Adams is one of the best receivers in the business and can elevate so many levels of the offense. Oh, and the team also drafted tight end Terrance Ferguson and running back Jarquez Hunter for even more depth. Even with so much offensive juice, Pro Football Network's Kyle Soppe ranked the Rams' offense No. 11 heading into the season based on their combination of "yards per play, points per drive, turnover percentage, success rate against the run and pass, third-down conversion rate, red-zone efficiency, pressure percentage when not blitzing, and various expected points added (EPA) measures against both the run and pass.." Here's why: "Matthew Stafford's decision to return gives the Los Angeles Rams hope of a third straight top-12 finish after bottoming out in the first season sans Kevin O'Connell (2022 ranking: 25th). Cooper Kupp has been replaced by Davante Adams, and that's probably an upgrade given what we saw from the former down the stretch last season, but this passing game revolves around Puka Nacua. "The 24-year-old out of BYU has racked up 2,476 yards in his 28 NFL games and was last seen earning 14 targets in a playoff game against the eventual Super Bowl champions. If Nacua can etch his name into the top tier at the position (Adams has been there and should serve as a nice mentor), asking Stafford to pile up the yards for yet another season isn't crazy. "And with the balance provided by a deep RB room, a top-10 finish is certainly in play." Basically, it will all come down to if all the pieces fit together nicely for L.A. They have the group to finish as one of the better units in the NFL, but it's no guarantee they will with an aging quarterback, young star and older veteran at receiver.

NFL Won't Replace Exec Brian Rolapp After His Departure for PGA Tour

The NFL will not replace longtime executive Brian Rolapp with one person, according to someone familiar with the league's plan. Rolapp's vast responsibilities will be divided among current NFL executives, per the source, who was granted anonymity because the details are private. Last week, Rolapp was named the first CEO of the PGA Tour. He spent more than 20 years at the NFL and had been its chief media and business officer since 2017. Rolapp spearheaded the league's media strategy, with its current agreements worth more than $120 billion over 11 years. He also oversaw the league's sponsorship business and its investment arm, 32 Equity, which has invested in DraftKings, Fanatics, Genius Sports and NoBull. Advertisement More from 'We have spent some time planning for this change and are confident we will successfully manage the responsibilities while we align our structure to meet our long-term strategic goals,' NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a memo to team presidents announcing Rolapp's departure. The NFL did not respond to a request to comment on its plans to replace Rolapp. Hans Schroeder is one executive who should absorb many of Rolapp's responsibilities on the media side. He joined the NFL in 2001 and was Rolapp's deputy as COO of NFL Media. Keeping the NFL's media partners happy is a critical role; they provide the bulk of the $400 million-plus check each team gets from the league office annually. Advertisement The NFL has an opt-out of its media deals in 2029, and the league recognizes its leverage as the undisputed leader in drawing viewers to live broadcasts. At the last Super Bowl, Goodell told reporters that the NFL's option to exit its current media rights contracts presents an 'incredibly valuable' opportunity for the league. Renie Anderson, who joined the league office in 2006, is another top lieutenant at the NFL who will take on more. She was named chief revenue officer in 2019 and oversees partnerships, sponsorships and consumer products. Anderson also handles media sales across NFL Network, NFL Digital Media and the league's legalized sports betting business. Other top executives who could shoulder greater duties include David Jurenka, who is a senior VO at NFL Media, and Dhruv Prasad, who heads 32 Equity. Rolapp was deemed a potential successor to Goodell, although the commissioner has two more years on his current contract and is likely to sign an extension. Advertisement 'I don't expect they will fill that [Rolapp] role with any one person, not from inside, not from outside,' Marc Ganis, longtime advisor to Goodell and NFL owners, said. 'The talent that is there is going to have more opportunity to spread their wings.' Best of Sign up for Sportico's Newsletter. For the latest news, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
