Philip Morris Egypt unveils price hike for cigarettes, heated tobacco products

Arab Finance: Philip Morris Egypt has updated the prices of its cigarettes and heated tobacco products, following the most recent price increase that officially took effect in the Egyptian market, as per a statement.
The company confirmed that the price adjustments cover its flagship brands, including Merit, Marlboro, and L&M, as well as heated tobacco products such as HEETS and TEREA.
The company explained that the move is part of its regular price review to keep pace with local market developments and recent tax changes.
The new official retail prices for Philip Morris products in Egypt are as follows:
Merit: EGP 105 per pack
Marlboro: EGP 97 per pack
Marlboro Crafted: EGP 79 per pack
L&M: EGP 76 per pack
TEREA (heated tobacco): EGP 76 per pack
TEREA Capsules: EGP 80 per pack
HEETS: EGP 69 per pack
Also, Philip Morris Egypt urged all retailers and distributors to comply with the official prices printed on packs.
The company also highlighted the use of a QR code printed on packs, introduced in 2022, to help consumers verify prices.

Arab Finance: The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) closed Monday's trading session with a positive performance, with the EGX30 rising by 2.04% to 33,727.44 points. The Sharia-compliant index, EGX33 Shariah index, went up by 1.03% to 3,483.32 points. Both the EGX70 index as well as the EGX100 index also ended the session higher by 0.89% at 10,196 points and by 1.21% at 13,787.99 points, respectively. The turnover stood at EGP 4.594 billion through the exchange of 1.431 billion shares over 110,184 transactions, while market capitalization reached EGP 2.382 trillion. Retail investors took over 75.29% of the total trading, while the institutions represented the remaining 24.70%. Egyptian investors controlled 88.26% of trading transactions, whereas Arab and foreign traders accounted for 6.1% and 5.65%, respectively. Foreign investors were net sellers with EGP 12.500 million. Hong Kong-based Crystal Martin to establish garment factory in Egypt

Arab Finance: Hong Kong-based Crystal Martin Group, a global leader in apparel manufacturing, plans to establish a factory in Egypt, on an area of 1.5 million square meters, according to a statement. The new facility will offer 4,000 jobs, while localizing its technology in Egypt and creating a highly efficient value-added chain that relies on 60% to 70% local content. Hossam Heiba, the CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), said Egypt enjoys all the capabilities to become a global center for the manufacturing and trading of ready-made garments. This comes amid rising demands for textiles and ready-made garments in Egypt over the past years. Heiba also addressed the improvement in the road and port network that connects manufacturing centers within Egypt to target foreign markets at competitive costs. The GAFI has studied the experiences of leading countries in the textile and ready-made garment re-export sector over the past few years, added Heiba. The CEO noted that Egypt is expected to become a regional hub for the manufacturing and trading of textiles and ready-made garments in the Mediterranean region within two years. The authority established regional offices for major global brands in Egypt, and the commencement of production in several factories, which injected new investments and expanded into public and private free zones in the cities of Minya, New Alamein, 10th of Ramadan City, Sadat City, and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). On his part, Hani Sallam, the Chairman of the Textile Export Council (TEC), lauded Egypt's remarkable development in infrastructure and the reduction in the duration of government procedures, particularly regarding free zones and customs ports. Sallam pointed out that these measures facilitate and accelerate import and re-export operations. He also affirmed the council's support for the authority's efforts to attract international companies to open offices in Cairo and establish affiliated distribution centers within the framework of public and private free zones. Daniel Stockdale, Crystal Martin's Vice President of Operations, announced the company's plans to move a portion of its production to Egypt, given its tax and non-tax incentives, streamlined establishment, and operating procedures, as well as the availability of trained labor. Meanwhile, the actual production at the company's factories is expected to begin within two years for export to markets with trade agreements with Egypt, particularly the EU and the US. Stockdale also unveiled the company's intention to apply for a golden license to expedite construction and operation, asserting that its investments meet all the criteria for obtaining the license. Under the signed MoU, will implement water features in CSCEC's landmark projects in Egypt. This collaboration comes as part of broader plan to advance national infrastructure and drive Egypt's sustainable economic growth. partnership with CSCEC began with the launch of the 'Downtown Lagoon' project in New Alamein City. Through this collaboration, will deliver comprehensive, end-to-end services covering design, civil works, electromechanical works, project management, and maintenance throughout the entire lifecycle of water-centric projects. Sherif ElSherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, recently signaled the start of the trial filling of the largest main lake within the 'Downtown Lagoon' project, designed by the Italian company Myrtha Pools. The goal of this phase is to test the waterproofing system, making it the first of the project's eleven lakes to enter trial operation. Spanning 15 feddans, this lake is distinguished by seven islands surrounded by a tourist promenade, as well as dedicated paths for bicycles and electric vehicles. 'The Downtown area of New Alamein City serves as a cornerstone of the state's vision to build globally competitive smart cities, under an integrated urban masterplan spanning approximately 49,000 feddans,' Amr Khattab, Infrastructure General Manager & Spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, said.
