Backpacker missing while jogging through the Tomb Raider style temple complex
A backpacker has gone missing after jogging through a Tomb Raider-style temple complex.
Lisa Girard, a French national, was on a solo long-distance run through the ancient Angkor Wat ruins in Siem Reap, Cambodia when she suddenly disappeared on Saturday morning.
She was last seen jogging in front of local children along a tree-lined path. Lisa was wearing a blue shirt printed with the word 'Cambodia' and a Cambodian flag in front, while her braided ponytail was held in place with a running headband. It comes after a mum left a 16-month-old baby home alone to die when she went on holiday.
The Siem Reap Tourist Police said: "On August 2, 2025, this morning, there is a French foreigner, who was lost from the group at Tasom Temple point while running a marathon. If you see her, please contact the police."
Lisa's friend, Noemie Martin, said the woman is still missing today, August 4. She said: "Lisa is still missing this morning. If you live in Siem Reap, feel free to go there and look in the forest and small paths around the area.
"She disappeared between Srah Srang lake and the road on the South of Angkor Wat. She was following the road, she was not supposed to run in the forest.
"Please also keep your eyes open in the city, in case you see her somewhere. Lisa has dark long hair, she has some tatoos on the arms, she was wearing a blue T-shirt (see pictures)."
Noemie added they were asking drone operators to assist in the search. Lisa arrived in Cambodia in 2024 after reportedly hitchhiking her way through 15 different countries over four months.
Lisa said she was volunteering for the French non-profit organisation Pour un Smile d'Enfant, which helps disadvantaged and out-of-school Cambodian children learn trades to escape poverty.
She said in August 2023: "Once in Cambodia, I will volunteer for six months for the association Pour un Smile d'Enfant. It allows access to education for Cambodia's poorest children and adolescents."
The Angkor Wat temple complex was the heart of the Khmer Empire in its most powerful period in the 12th century. It was prominently featured in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie.
The scenes were shot at Ta Prohm temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where towering trees grow out of the ruins of the sacred building.

As a result, services were forced to divert to slower lines which caused carnage on France's rail network. Since the problem is largely affecting French services, holidaymakers heading to Brussels or Amsterdam from London have largely been unaffected by the cancellations. The train operator took to X to confirm which services have been cancelled. A spokesperson for Eurostar said that the following services from London to Paris will not be running: #ES9022, 11.31 #ES9028, 13.31 #ES9044, 17.31 #ES9050, 19.01 Similarly, the following services from Paris to London will not be running: #ES9025, 11:37 #ES9039, 15:15 #ES9051, 18:10 #ES9055, 19:11 The spokesperson added: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused today." Passengers affected by the huge delays can exchange their tickets free of charge or request full refunds. Pictures taken at St Pancras show hundreds of Brits huddled around information screens, waiting for updates on when their train is going to depart. Some have taken to social media to vent their frustrations at the incident. One wrote: "How is it that the one day I choose to take the Eurostar they choose to cut power to the high speed rail in Northern France? "What are the odds?" However, according to lucky holidaymakers, regularly services are slowly being restored for some passengers. One person posted: "Thanks Eurostar for working through the track problems affecting all trains headed west from Paris Nord today. "Our train was late, but still running today. French authorities found several stab wounds on the neck and back. They believe that the man did not live in the commune of Pont-de-Metz but is originally from the region. He is said to have had a habit of going for walks around the park in the evenings. French prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into what they believe is a case of "intentional homicide", according to Le Parisien. The park has been described as "peaceful" - surrounded by a few houses, tennis courts and a river. Around 20 police officers today were tasked with combing the surroundings to find more clues and "broader findings," a police source said. The area was previously cordoned off, but restrictions have now been lifted, it is understood. It comes after a Brit woman was found dead in France - lying in a pool of blood at her home. In January, a female Brit tragically died in a horror accidental ski crash in France with another UK tourist while on a difficult black slope. The 62-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene after she reportedly lost control of her skies and crashed into the fellow Brit at the Les Arcs resort. The unnamed woman is said to have crashed head-on into a 35-year-old man on the black slope of the Aiguille Rouge run, according to French news outlet Le Dauphine.

Ryanair announced it would be axing flights from three airports in France later this year due to the "astronomical" rise in air tax by the French government. The airline added: "In response to this government tax, Ryanair will cease operations to Bergerac, Brive, and Strasbourg, and reduce capacity at several other French airports." Ryanair currently operates two flights per week between London and Brive which is the biggest commune in Corrèze, and it's capital is Tulle. Direct flights from London Stansted to Brive will stop after October 24, 2025. But if you manage to visit before then, you can explore local distilleries and even Lamy Chocolate Factory which create sweet treats. Brive has a large food market held three times a week in Georges Brassens Hall with more than 200 sellers where you can pick up lots of tasty local produce. In the winter months, Brive is known for holding traditional winter fairs called Foires Grasses. It also holds Foires Franches, a summer fair which has children's fairground rides, markets, games throughout the town and firework displays. Other destinations that have been axed are Strasbourg, aka the Capital of Christmas. The third destination that Ryanair will no longer fly to is Bergerac. Last week, Christophe Fauvel, president of the Dordogne Chamber of Commerce (CCI) explained that Ryanair stopping flights could lead to the closure of Bergerac Airport. Talking to French media, Christophe said: "It is what happens next that worries us. "If Ryanair decides to follow through on its threat and leaves Bergerac for good the airport may face closure". Bergerac Airport estimates that it will lose 18,000 passengers and a seven per cent loss of its annual passenger numbers. Last year, Ryanair pulled its service to Bordeaux Airport – a decision that was finalised in October 2024. In early 2025, the airline also cut its route to Vatry.
