Ahmedabad: The death of two lion cubs outside the Gir forest's protected zone has raised fears of a potential infectious disease outbreak in the area. The cubs, under a year old, were found dead a day apart on July 27 and 28, in the Jafrabad range of the Shetrunji division. Veterinarians say this could possibly be from an underlying infection caused by parasites, or the cubs could have been anaemic. After the deaths, two lionesses and six cubs from the same pride were rescued on Tuesday, said Ram Ratan Nala, chief conservator of forest Junagadh (wildlife).
