Lidl launches £19.99 self-cooling dog bed for the summer

Keeping your dog cool is very important during a heatwave, as they can get heatstroke without shade and plenty of water.
Grooming your dogs can also be useful, as it can remove dead or excess hair, leaving a slightly less dense coat.
The RSPCA also recommends giving your pet damp towels to lie on or an ice pack wrapped in a towel.

Lidl are offering a way to help with this, as they will be selling a Reversible Self-Cooling and Warming Dog Bed for £19.99.
This will be available to buy in-store from Thursday, August 7, alongside some other pet products.
Explaining how the product works, Lidl explained: "One side offers a cooling surface for hot summer days, while the flip side gently reflects the dog's body heat, creating snuggle-worthy warmth for cooler nights.
"Available for only £19.99, this clever dog bed provides pups with year-round comfort."
Lidl was set up in Germany in 1930 when Josef Schwarz became a partner in a company called Südfrüchte Großhandlung Lidl & Co.
This had been established by Anton Lidl since at least 1858 under the name A.Lidl & Cie, specialising in the sale of exotic fruits.
Schwarz renamed the company Lidl & Schwarz KG and expanded into a food wholesaler.
In 1977, under his son Dieter Schwarz, the Schwarz Group began to focus on discount markets and larger supermarkets.
Dieter wasn't keen on using his own name for this, as the name Schwarz-Markt translates to 'black market'.

He wanted to use the name of his father's former business partner, but legal reasons prevented him from doing so.
When he discovered a newspaper article about a painter and retired schoolteacher Ludwig Lidl, he bought the rights to the name from him for 1,000 German marks.
From there, the Lidl name was used, and it expanded into many countries over time.

Other back to school offers Argos isn't the only retailer where you can bag some great back to school offers. Lidl last month launched a school uniform bundle for just £5, which includes two polo shirts, sweatshirts and trousers to choose from. Singular items can also be bought for cheap, with a sweatshirt going for just £1.50, and trousers, shirts, skirts or shorts for £1.75 during the sale. Lidl also offers a price-match promise, saying: "If you see a cheaper deal elsewhere, we'll match it." Aldi is also offering a £5 school uniform bundle this summer, which includes two polo shirts, a sweatshirt or cardigan, and a choice of trousers, skirt or cargo shorts – with individual items starting from just £1.50. Meanwhile, it's bad news for M&S shoppers as the retailer confirmed it would not be offering its usual 20% off sale on school uniforms this summer. The decision came after a cyber incident forced the company to suspend online operations for nearly six weeks, resulting in estimated losses of around £300 million. However, it said it had frozen prices on its school uniforms for the fifth year running. Do you have a money problem that needs sorting? European shares end flat as healthcare stocks weigh after Trump's tariff threat

Aug 6 (Reuters) - European shares closed flat on Wednesday, surrendering early session gains, as healthcare stocks felt the pinch from U.S. President Donald Trump's latest threat to impose higher tariffs on pharmaceutical imports. The pan-European STOXX 600 (.STOXX), opens new tab index closed 0.06% lower, breaking its two-day winning streak despite starting the session on a positive note. Healthcare stocks bore the brunt of the selling pressure. The sector index (.SXDP), opens new tab plunged 2.8% to its lowest level in more than three months after Trump unveiled a graduated tariff plan targeting pharmaceutical imports that could see levies on the sector jump up to 250% within 18 months. "This is where it's important to be specific about tariffs because certain stocks and sectors will be impacted differently across regions," said Steve Sosnick, chief market analyst at Interactive Brokers. "In Europe and Asia, investors are considering tariff impacts more carefully since exporters bear much of the brunt directly." The sector was also singed as Novo Nordisk ( opens new tab warned it expects continued competition from copycat versions of its Wegovy obesity drug this year, a message that sent shares of the Danish drug maker down 5.4%. Novo cut its full-year sales and profit forecasts last week, wiping $95 billion off its market value since then. Meanwhile, Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss potential trade solutions after Trump announced a 39% tariff on Swiss goods. The talks focused on increasing Swiss purchases of U.S. energy and defence products to avert the steep tariff, which threatens significant damage to Switzerland's export-driven economy. Switzerland's benchmark SMI index (.SSMI), opens new tab fell 0.9%, weighed down by drugmakers Novartis (NOVN.S), opens new tab and Roche (ROG.S), opens new tab which lost 3.3% and 2.6%, respectively. Bayer ( opens new tab shares tumbled 9.9% on investor concerns that the German pharmaceutical firm's earnings were inflated by soccer player transfer fees rather than supported by its core healthcare and agriculture businesses. On the data front, Euro zone retail sales grew quicker than thought in June, reinforcing views that the 27-nation bloc remains resilient to trade uncertainty. Among others, Beiersdorf ( opens new tab fell 8.4% and was among top decliners after the German consumer goods maker cut its annual organic sales growth outlook. On the flip side, Siemens Energy ( opens new tab rose 1% after the company said it expects to hit the upper end of its 2025 growth outlook estimates. Hiscox (HSX.L), opens new tab was the top gainer on the index, gaining 9.4% after reporting a rise in first-half insurance premiums supported by its retail business growth.
