Welsh club Nant Conwy boast two sets of sisters in Rugby World Cup squad
Nel and Branwen Metcalfe have been named alongside Gwenllian and Alaw Pyrs in Wales coach Sean Lynn's 32-player squad who open their campaign against Scotland on August 23 in Manchester.
While the Pyrs sisters have played together before, it will be a new experience for the Metcalfes, with Wales Under-20s captain Branwen yet to earn her first senior cap.
"I'm lost for words," Branwen told the BBC. "It's been a whirlwind year. I haven't trained much with the squad yet, but it's been really great coming into this environment, I'm learning a lot as I go.
"Everyone is really nice and it's nice to come in as a young player with all these experienced players," she added, mentioning Alex Callender and Kate Williams among her role models on the team.
Sister Nel said "the family is buzzing."
"People have asked, 'How do you feel?'. I couldn't be prouder," Nel told the BBC. "I've seen how hard (Branwen) has worked, she deserves this.
"I would say I do look out for her (in camp) and check she's ok, but she can handle herself, everyone has been pretty welcoming."
While Wales has had siblings before with the Horgan twins Clair and Louise playing together against France in 2008, having two sets of sisters from the same grassroots club is something to celebrate, said Nant Conwy Chairman Marc Jones.
"Congratulations to the girls, their achievements are down to their total dedication and commitment," he said.
Wales conclude the group stage with games against Canada on August 30 and Fiji on September 6.
The team's best World Cup finish was fourth in 1994. They made the quarter-finals at the last World Cup held in 2022.

"If you keep digging, digging and digging, then one day the gold is going to be there. All the time, it is what I have been taught my whole life," Arteta said. "For the last three seasons we have more points (combined) than anybody else in the league and that says a lot about our consistency. Now we just have to do it in a season." Arsenal great and former skipper Tony Adams suggested Arteta should take the captain's armband from Martin Odegaard, who had a relatively poor season due to injuries last term, and hand it to Declan Rice. However, Arteta said the decision to stick with Odegaard as the captain was unanimous. "My opinion is clear and it's not just my opinion, it's all the staff and especially the players. I asked them to vote the captain and I got the result yesterday," Arteta said. "By a mile, by a big, big 100 miles, everybody chose the same person - Martin Odegaard - which is the most clear sign that you can have. Sesko 'ready to play' as Amorim plots United's return to European football
MANCHESTER :Newly-signed Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is ready to play but it is too early to say if he will start when the club kick off their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Sunday, United manager Ruben Amorim said. Slovenia's Sesko joined United from RB Leipzig last weekend for a transfer fee of 76.5 million euros ($89 million) with 8.5 million in bonuses. United have spent around 200 million pounds this summer after finishing 15th last season. "We didn't have a lot of time but he is ready, physically he is ready, that is a big component in our league. Then, he's really smart... he is ready to play, we will see if he is going to start," Amorim told reporters on Friday. Amorim said United, who last season had their worst finish in the English top-flight since 1973-74, will go into the 2025-26 campaign aiming for a return to European soccer. "We cannot change everything in four weeks, but we are better. We're training harder and are more prepared to cope with the demands of the game," he said. "We want to return to Europe. We have to be realistic with our fans. We will have to fight a lot because there are more teams with time together than us. We have to focus game by game. We want to win against Arsenal." GYOKERES 'IN A DIFFERENT LEAGUE' Sunday's match will pit Amorim against one of the most successful signings in his coaching career, with former Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres joining Arsenal in the summer. Sweden's Gyokeres, who joined the Lisbon-based club in 2023 under Amorim, was the top scorer in the Primeira Liga for two seasons in a row, helping Sporting win back-to-back titles. "Viktor is in a different league. Sporting have good scouting because they live from the players they can buy and sell to survive. I think he's a very good player. It's not a surprise to see him with a big club in England," Amorim said. Rees-Zammit returns to rugby union with Bristol Bears for 2025-26 season
Louis Rees-Zammit has signed for Bristol Bears for the 2025-26 season, the club announced late on Thursday, marking the Welshman's return to rugby union after an 18-month stint in American football. The 24-year-old had joined the Kansas City Chiefs in March last year after he impressed scouts at the NFL International Player Pathway. However, the four-times Super Bowl champions left him off their roster for the 2024 season. Rees-Zammit later joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, first as part of their practice squad last August and then on their active roster in February, before opting to return to rugby union last month.
