High School Senior Dies in Crash Just Days Before Graduation: 'Only 2 Miles from Her House', Family Says

'She could always just put a smile on everybody's face,' said Osmundson's auntA high school student who was about to graduate in a few days was killed in a single-vehicle collision in Oklahoma last weekend.
In an incident report obtained by PEOPLE, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) stated that the crash occurred on Saturday, May 10, on Foothill Road about 0.4 miles west of U.S. Highway 77, which is approximately 3 miles north of Springer.
The OHP report said that a 2005 Lexus RX330 driven by Averiee Osmundson, 18, was traveling eastbound on Foothill Road. The vehicle departed the roadway to the left when it 'overcorrected reentering the roadway before overturning an unknown amount of times.'
The Lexus was ejected 'approximately 78 feet from where the vehicle came to rest,' continued the report.
Osmundson, who hailed from Springer, was pronounced dead at the scene following injuries sustained in the crash, according to authorities. Her body was taken to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office.
The OHP report also noted that a seatbelt was not in use at the time. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Kegan Muth, Osmundson's cousin, paid tribute to her in a statement shared with KOKH.
'She was more than an 18-year-old graduating high school; she was a beautiful, young, talented girl,' Muth's statement read in part. 'She knew just the right words to say and when to say them. She had a scholarship to attend Oklahoma State University, which she couldn't wait to attend, even if her bubs said to rethink it.'
'She wanted to be a pediatrician,' the statement continued. 'All she ever wanted was to help the ones who needed the help. She always made everyone smile and happy. She didn't see life like everyone else. She saw the bright light in the pitch black dark.'
Osmundson was a senior at Davis High School and was scheduled to graduate on Friday, May 16, per CBS affiliate KOTV.
Davis Public Schools acknowledged Osmundson's death in a letter shared on Facebook Sunday, May 11.
'This devastating loss will be deeply felt throughout our entire school community, especially among the Senior Class of 2025,' read the letter in part.
'Our deepest sympathy goes out to Averiee's family, friends, and our entire school community,' the letter added. 'Please continue to keep her loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.'
Cassie Muth, Osmundson's aunt, told KOTV that the family has been shattered by what happened.
'She was only two miles from her house," said Muth.
Muth remembered her niece for having an amazing heart.
'She could always just put a smile on everybody's face. She was very adventurous, very outgoing,' Muth said.
'Honestly, I'm still in disbelief that she's been taken from us at such a young age with so much potential and a lot still ahead of her,' she said, per KOTV.

SoCal man used dating apps to swindle matches out of more than $2 million, feds say
A Whittier man was arrested Thursday for allegedly using dating apps such as Tinder, Hinge and Bumble to con people out of more than $2 million, according to authorities. Christopher Earl Lloyd, 39, was charged with 13 counts of wire fraud and one count of engaging in a monetary transaction in property derived from fraud, according to the U.S. attorney's office for the Central District of California. If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in federal prison for each wire fraud count and up to 10 years for the monetary transaction count. Between April 2021 and February 2024, authorities say Lloyd used dating apps and websites to find and contact alleged victims, lying about his financial success and knowledge in investing. Prosecutors also allege Lloyd lied about being a financial manager, the vice president of a company called Planet 13 Holdings and that he worked for an investment company called Landmark Associates. Lloyd allegedly convinced people to invest by telling them he knew of investment opportunities that could help them, according to a statement from prosecutors. He also allegedly told them they would get regular returns and could withdraw their investments at any time. Lloyd allegedly signed contracts; set up a fake schedule of investment returns; and collected money in the form of cash, wire transfers and by using CashApp and Zelle, authorities said. In May 2023, Lloyd allegedly withdrew $40,000 that someone had sent him to write a check at a Lexus dealership in Mission Viejo. Lloyd's alleged scheme cost his victims more than $2 million in losses, officials said.

Ole Miss freshman Adams killed in shooting
Ole Miss freshman edge rusher Corey Adams was shot and killed in Cordova, Tenn., late Saturday night. He was 18. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office said Sunday that it was investigating a shooting that occurred outside of a residence around 10:14 p.m. on Saturday night. Five men were shot, with four of the victims listed in non-critical condition. Deputies performed life-saving measures on Adams, until Shelby County Fire personnel arrived and pronounced him deceased on the scene. There is now an active homicide investigation into the case. 'We're heartbroken by the passing of Corey Adams. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him,' Ole Miss wrote in a social media post. The program shared a statement on his passing below that. 'We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee. While our program is trying to cope with his tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,' the statement read. 'Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.' Illinois woman charged with felony DUI after crash injures mom, 2 kids: police
The Brief A woman and her two young children were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash Friday night in Palatine. Police say the driver, Rosalba Ramirez-Fraga, was intoxicated, had open alcohol containers in her vehicle, and was driving the wrong way before the head-on collision. Ramirez-Fraga faces multiple charges, including two felony DUI counts, and remains in custody ahead of her Aug. 8 court date. PALATINE, Ill. - A suburban woman is facing felony DUI charges after a multi-vehicle crash in Palatine left a mother and her two young children hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. What we know The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Friday near East Dundee Road and North Kennedy Drive. Palatine police said officers arrived to find several damaged vehicles, including a black Lexus and a black Nissan that had collided head-on. A 23-year-old woman riding in the Nissan, along with her 7-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter, were taken to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. An investigation revealed the driver of the Lexus, Rosalba Ramirez-Fraga, 31, was traveling northbound on North Frontage Road when she rear-ended a gray Toyota. Police said she then continued into the westbound lanes of East Dundee Road while driving eastbound — ultimately crashing head-on into the Nissan.
