Lottery winners join beach clean-up to ‘give something back'
Rob and Elaine Leason, from the East Riding of Yorkshire, who won £1 million on Lotto, joined the clean-up operation.
Ms Leason said: 'It is an incredible feeling to not only support those closest to us financially – but to be able to give our time to charity and projects which are close to our hearts and impact others too.
'We have learned so much today – it has been fabulous to be with friends we have made as a result of our win – and to also give something back to the local area, hopefully for the benefit of holidaymakers and local beach-goers.'
Other winners joining the clean-up were Alex and Liana Best, from Leeds, who won £1 million on Euromillions; Mark and Cheryl Brudenell, from Cleveland, who won £916,915 on Lotto; Gary Henry, from County Durham, who won £4.4 million on Lotto; and Ian and Kim McCarthy, from Washington, Tyne and Wear, who won £1 million on EuroMillions.
They were joined by Derek and Elaine Thompson, from Newcastle, who won £2.7 million on Lotto; Paul and Sue Watson, from Darlington, who won £1.1 million on Lotto; Andy and Mandy Hornsby, from Redcar in North Yorkshire, who won £1 million last New Year's Eve and Mark and Julie Weir, from Darlington, who won £2.7 million on Lotto.
The clean-up was organised by Beach Guardian, a charity which has received £249,422 in National Lottery funding.
Andrew Whittle, from Beach Guardian, said: 'Even when you have what looks like a pristine beach – on every beach you find microplastics which are washed up from the ocean and are really very harmful to both the environment and our wildlife.'
Bamburgh beach, overlooked by a castle, boasts high dunes, wide sands and views across to the Farne Islands.

She looked in good spirits as she enjoyed some quality time with her daughter and partner. Lorraine has been visiting Sitges, a vibrant coastal town in Catalonia, Spain. Just last week Lorraine stunned in a white minidress during her hen do - as she gears up to marry Mark. The couple are tying the knot in a much-anticipated ceremony surrounded by close friends and family. She got engaged to Mark, a property developer, after she popped the question to him on his birthday in 2023. Lorraine and Mark first met through mutual friends and said their connection was instant. WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY In a desperate bid to change her appearance and feel healthier, the star embarked on an epic weight loss journey courtesy of fat jabs and surgery. Lorraine has admitted that using weight-loss injections wasn't for her after becoming "immune" to them. In a new interview, she confessed to using Wegovy, a weight-loss jab similar to Ozempic and Mounjaro, but she failed to find her desired figure on the medication. EastEnders' Lorraine Stanley looks slimmer than ever after dramatic five stone weight loss Lorraine told the Mirror: "I'd tried Wegovy. I have friends on different weight-loss jabs and they work for them. "I'm not against them, but for whatever reason I feel like I got immune to them. "It got to the point where I was injecting myself and eating at the same time. "I was thinking, 'What the hell are you doing?' So I decided that was it, time to get this surgery booked." Lorraine revealed that she opted to shell out "thousands" to undergo weight-loss surgery at a top Harley Street clinic in London. The actress confessed: "I'm not going to lie, nor am I promoting it, but I had weight-loss surgery two years ago. "I had a gastric sleeve. I went to Harley Street. I didn't go to a clinic in Turkey or anything. "In saying that, I've had friends who've gone to Turkey and had great experiences, but I didn't trust that process. "So, yeah, I went to a London clinic, paid an awful lot of money and had it done. It's hands-down the best thing I've ever done – both for me and for my family." She continued to the publication: "I was at home watching an episode of EastEnders I was in and I could barely look at myself. "The person on screen was unrecognisable to me. "I know TV puts a stone on you, but… so yes, there was an element of vanity, but it was also me wanting to change things for my daughter and our future." Lorraine has now been shy of showing off her svelte figure following her six and a half stone weight loss. She said: "I weigh 8st now. If you look at my little wrists and ankles, this is the weight I should have been. "I should be a thin person. And I always was, until I hit my late twenties." 6 The soap star is set to marry her long-term partner later this year Credit: Instagram 6 Lorraine admitted that using weight-loss injections wasn't for her Credit: Splash

Good Morning Britain viewers 'make demand' to ITV as Rob Rinder presents show
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Good Morning Britain audiences found themselves split as Rob Rinder presented alongside Charlotte Hawkins on Friday. The barrister, 47, rose to prominence with his daytime courtroom programme Judge Rinder over a decade ago but has since built a career spanning various television genres. He frequently provides Friday coverage for the ITV show, whilst Kate Garraway and Susanna Reid serve as the primary presenters from Monday to Thursday and feature alongside personalities such as Adil Ray, Richard Madeley and Ed Balls. However, as he assumed the presenter's chair on the ITV programme just ahead of the weekend, viewers held contrasting views, with some urging the broadcaster to retain him permanently whilst others felt he was 'too showbiz' for the serious news format. This follows ITV's decision to cancel Noel Edmonds' major television return after merely one series, reports the Mirror. One supporter posted on X: "Petition to keep Rob Rinder as the main anchor during the week. Big brain, asks the right questions. @ITV open your cheque book #gmb", whilst another, impressed with Rob's on-air conduct, commented: "It's rob. No screeching talking over. Didn't even turn channel." A third enthusiast remarked: "I always hope it's Rob Rinder on a Friday. I like Rob!". However, others were less enthusiastic about his return to the programme, with one viewer taking to social media to declare: "Rob Rinder is so cringe. So showbiz. So rehearsed. So fake. [green face emoji] Cringe." Another viewer concurred, commenting: "I've thought this as well. I enjoyed his show #JudgeRinder but he's not an anchor for morning tv, it doesn't work. #GMB." Since launching his television career, Rob has established himself as quite the personality after taking part in Strictly Come Dancing and featuring on The Real Full Monty. Earlier this year, he fuelled speculation about a potential romance with former X Factor celebrity Rylan Clark when they launched a BBC travel programme together, though they maintained that their relationship was purely platonic. Much of Friday's programme centred on the commemorations surrounding VJ Day, with he and Charlotte examining a speech delivered by King Charles to mark the milestone before EastEnders star Colin Salmon joined to discuss his latest film and hint at upcoming storylines for the BBC drama. An amusing moment emerged when Rob, who took part in Strictly in 2016, was accompanied by showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold and the duo looked back on their respective appearances on the show alongside numerous revelations regarding this year's lineup for the BBC dance contest. Whilst discussing the 2016 internet sensation Gangnam Style, Rob asked Richard: "I'm not gonna say anything but I got to do the jazz hands at Blackpool, did you?". Richard, who featured on the show in 2012, playfully responded: "Was it really your year though? Nah, you did very well! We didn't have Blackpool, we had Wembley Arena because the Blackpool Tower was going under refurb." Things took a turn when Richard challenged: "Do you want to take this outside, Rob?" and Rob humorously retorted: "That would be the campest fight ever!". (Image: ITV) (Image: PA)
