'Hold On!': CNN Host Smacks Down Rep. Byron Donalds' Hegseth Pivot
Sidner referred to a CNN report on the chaos at the Pentagon as Hegseth deals with leaks, mass firings and further infighting — all while responding to the fallout of a second Signal chat scandal.
'Does this not bother you at all?' Sidner bluntly asked Donalds, who is President Donald Trump's pick to succeed term-limited Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Donalds responded by claiming that Hegseth is just weeks into his job and that the Pentagon is going through a transitory phase between administrations.
He then pivoted to talk of former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's January 2024 hospitalization following surgery to treat prostate cancer. Austin and his staff kept his hospitalization secret at the time, a decision that the Pentagon later determined to have no 'ill intent' but was widely criticized by Democrats and Republicans alike.
'Nobody was saying a word when Lloyd Austin, the previous defense secretary, disappeared for a month,' Donalds claimed.
'We did say a word, we reported that story,' said Sidner of the hospitalization scandal. 'Wait, hold on, Byron.'
Austin, after news of his hospitalization surfaced, said it was wrong to conceal his cancer diagnosis from Biden and the public. His duties were taken up by then-Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks at the time.
Sidner, after summarizing the hospitalization scandal, unloaded on Donalds.
″[You think that's] an equal thing to somebody who is giving out information to his wife, who does not have a security clearance, to his lawyer, to his brother, on a personal cell phone, on a Signal chat, which he's already been looked at for, for doing that with a whole bunch of folks from the administration.'
She continued, 'You're equating those two things. Do you think those are the same things, and you're OK with Pete Hegseth and what he did, but not OK with what Lloyd Austin did?'
Donalds responded, 'I'm not equating those two things.'
Sidner shot back, 'You just did.'
Donalds went on to argue that the hospitalization scandal was 'significantly worse' than an 'allegation' against Hegseth.

Cuomo campaign denies bombshell report about Trump's influence in the NYC mayoral race
Despite a report to the contrary, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo's mayoral campaign told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that they aren't expecting help from anyone in the race for Gracie Mansion, including former President Donald Trump, despite a report to the contrary. POLITICO's New York Playbook reported that Cuomo is "counting on" Trump to urge Republicans to vote for the former governor instead of the Republican nominee, Curtis Sliwa, in this November's mayoral election. According to audio obtained by the outlet, Cuomo told a Hamptons crowd on Saturday that Sliwa isn't a "serious candidate" and Trump himself would say, "you'll be wasting your vote on Sliwa." When reached for comment regarding the report, Cuomo's senior advisor, Rich Azzopardi, explained that Cuomo was responding to "what he heard to be a hypothetical about how it could become a two-person race and was speculating." Cuomo is New York City's "only chance" of defeating the Democratic mayoral nominee, Zohran Mamdani, the Cuomo campaign doubled down on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Sliwa has distanced himself from the president, maintaining that it wouldn't be helpful for Trump to intervene in New York City's mayoral race, after The New York Times' report that Trump has been speaking with Cuomo and his associates about how to defeat Mamdani in November. Trump and Cuomo have both denied the phone call ever happened, and the former governor said he wouldn't accept a Trump endorsement. The Republican nominee told Fox News Digital on Tuesday morning that Cuomo's campaign is "a mess," and said, "desperate people do desperate things." "It's just sad that Andrew Cuomo thinks a Trump headline will save him," Sliwa said in a statement. And Sliwa trolled Cuomo, arguing that "if he actually left the Hamptons," he would see the impact of his policies on New Yorkers," tying crime to his "disastrous no-bail law" and his controversial COVID-19 policies. Speaking to reporters at a campaign event in Manhattan on Monday, Cuomo confirmed that he attended the fundraiser at media mogul Jimmy Finkelstein's home in Southampton on Saturday. Day by day, the self-described Democratic socialist spotlighted how Trump's sweeping second-term agenda is impacting New Yorkers, as he worked to tie Cuomo to Trump. The Mamdani campaign seized on the latest reporting, releasing a statement on Tuesday morning, arguing that "Andrew Cuomo has been caught red-handed." "Since he's too afraid to say it to New Yorkers' faces, we'll make it clear: Andrew Cuomo is Donald Trump's choice for mayor," Mamdani campaign spokeswoman, Dora Pekec, said. Cuomo's campaign was quick to respond, calling it "silly." "Mamdani is clearly trying to deflect from answering questions" about his own record, including his support for decriminalizing prostitution, for which Cuomo held a press conference criticizing on Monday. Mamdani has said he would be Trump's "worst nightmare" if elected in November. Trump has repeatedly criticized Mamdani, calling him a "100% Communist Lunatic." The White House has dismissed the idea that Trump is planning to get involved in the race. And as Cuomo resets as he runs in the mayoral general election as an independent candidate, references to Trump have plummeted. Adams is also running as an independent candidate. Particularly on immigration, the incumbent mayor has developed a relationship with Trump. "I helped him out a little bit," Trump admitted last month, referencing his Justice Department dropping corruption charges against the mayor earlier this year.

Russia Immediately Dumps Cold Water on Trump's Ukraine Wins
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said his meeting with Donald Trump Monday may have been their 'best' yet—not a particularly high bar—but that doesn't mean that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to play ball. During CNN's News Night Monday, Josh Rogin, lead global security analyst for CNN, said that it had certainly been a 'much better meeting than the last time.' 'But I think it'd be going too far to say that Putin has agreed to a meeting with Zelenskiy,' Rogin added. 'In fact, the Kremlin put out a statement right after this meeting and they said, 'No, we'll have meetings at a high level,' but they didn't say with Putin and Zelenskiy.' Trump reportedly called Putin in the middle of his meeting with several European leaders to begin making arrangements for a trilateral summit between himself, Zelenskiy, and Putin. But as Rogin pointed out, Russia hasn't actually agreed to such a meeting. In a statement, Moscow said only that the leaders had discussed 'the idea of raising the level of Russian and Ukrainian representation in the negotiations.' Rogin continued, 'And then they said, 'Oh, yeah, we're totally against NATO troops in Ukraine.' So, the two big deliverables out of this meeting, Russia has already rejected, which kind of gets to the core of the issue, which is President Trump said 50 times today that he believes Putin wants peace. And I don't know, call me skeptical. I don't think that's true. I just don't buy it. 'And I'm basing that on all the evidence. Everything Putin says. Everything Putin does. Everything we know. And that's what you see those European leaders doing. They're testing that. They're saying to President Trump, 'If he gives you a ceasefire, he's gonna stop killing Ukrainians at least for a couple days, then maybe he's serious. And if he doesn't, then he's not serious.' At the end of the day, the clearest signal that Putin could give that he wants to end the killing is, well, to stop killing. But he hasn't done that. Trump already appears to have agreed with Putin's demands to permanently seize Crimea, and to block Ukraine from its long-awaited NATO membership. Moscow has demanded even more territory from Ukraine, while Zelenskiy has insisted that his country will not cede land to Russia.
