Give attention to underperforming blocks: Edu minister
Trichy: School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi held a review meeting with district education officials on Wednesday related to the state level achievement survey (SLAS), a sample survey done by the state planning commission, SCERT, directorates of school education and elementary education this year for measuring learning outcomes of students and identify areas of improvement for students of classes 3, 5 and 8 in govt and aided schools.
Trichy district ranked sixth overall in the state-level survey. Headmasters and block education officers from five blocks - Trichy Urban, Andhanallur, Thiruverumbur, Pullambadi, and Manikandam - that recorded the lowest performance in the district participated in the meeting. Although an overall district action plan had been submitted at the end of last month, sources said the minister called for increased attention to the underperforming blocks.
The minister also said that he will be meeting and motivating the heads of schools and education officials from these lesser performing blocks.
"We will be preparing block-specific action plans over the next two to three weeks," a source said.
Despite these variations, sources noted that Trichy performed better than the state average in all subjects across the three assessed classes. The district action plan, based on findings from the survey, highlighted areas needing improvement, such as English reading skills and confusion among students regarding statistical concepts like mean, median, and mode in mathematics.

"Phonetic training by DIET to 350 teachers to make it easy for them to train the students to read English easily is a targeted intervention mentioned in the action plan to address gaps of students not able to read properly," a source said. The state level survey was done with the participation of 40-60 students from each of the 16 blocks.
Later, the minister congratulated 18 students of Oorudaiyapatti panchayat union middle school for securing NMMS. The HM also was honoured.

HC orders authority to issue NOC for Aussie couple to take adopted son home
New Delhi: Delhi High Court recently came to the rescue of an Australia-based couple who were not allowed to take their adopted son back to the country for over four years due to the inaction of Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). A single-judge bench of Justice Sachin Datta on May 30 observed that the adoption deed was executed in 2020 and directed CARA to immediately issue a no-objection certificate enabling the couple to take the child with them. The bench said the adoption was concluded in accordance with the law and there was no reason for CARA not to grant the NOC. CARA objected to the registration of the adoption deed by the adoptive father's mother, on the basis of a general power of attorney. It contended that a GPA was not a legally valid instrument under Queensland Powers of Attorney Act 1998 for the purpose of adoption. It stated that in cases where children adopted under Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act (HAMA) are sought to be relocated abroad by the adoptive parents, Adoption Regulations 2022 required necessary documentation/certification from the authority concerned of the receiving country as contemplated under Hague Convention 1993. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Värmepump inkl. installation Vä Få erbjudande Undo You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi Referring to a Supreme Court verdict in which CARA was directed to issue an NOC to expedite the process for the inter-country adoption of two children by a 49-year-old single Indian woman residing in the UK, the judge observed that Article 37 of Hague Convention itself implied that concluded adoptions under HAMA were required to comply with the requirements set out in the Act itself and couldn't be retrospectively subject to any other extraneous requirement or precondition. The court also noted that the Australian authorities concerned had issued a communication seeking a CARA support letter to validate the adoption for inter-country movement. "Admittedly, requisite certificates have also already been issued by the district magistrate (Bathinda, Punjab). There is no ground for withholding the grant of a support letter/NOC by CARA," it noted.

Tiger in my room! Family wakes up to striped guest
1 2 Purulia/Kolkata: Puran Mahto had barely got out of bed on Wednesday morning when his eldest daughter rushed into his room, alerting him about an uninvited visitor taking a nap on a bed in their three-bedroom household — one with yellow coat with black stripes. A chill ran down Puran's spine but before his senses got clouded, he remembered that a relative's 11-year-old daughter was sleeping in the same room. The 55-year-old farmer rushed out of his room, tiptoed into the third bedroom, awakened the little girl while covering her mouth and took her to the next room where his other daughters were sleeping. He woke them up and had barely moved the three girls into his own room when the tiger entered the second room through a window. Puran's heart missed a beat but he crawled out of the room and locked it from outside. For the next 12 hours, the big cat would stay in the little house in Jharkhand's Mardu, off the banks of the Subarnarekha. The Silli block village is situated barely 500m from the Bengal border. With weather playing spoilsport, however, the rescue operation could start only around 4pm. Two teams — from Ranchi forest division and Palamau Tiger Reserve — led the efforts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 40세 넘고 PC만 있으면? 이 게임 완전 내 거임! The door was unlocked and members of the forest teams placed a trap cage — fitted to a rescue van — in front of the house to lure the big cat. "Even before placing the bait, the tiger entered the cage. As it was growling and moving inside the iron cage, officials decided to tranquillise it. It was darted twice and around 6.45pm, the rescue team started for Ranchi," said an official. Palamau field director SR Natesh said: "This is in all likelihood the tiger clicked earlier in Palamau and also in Dalma and Bengal's Purulia. We have a photo ID. We will release the tiger in Palamau." Ranchi DFO Shrikant Verma, however, said only DNA tests could confirm if it was the same tiger. Jharkhand's chief wildlife warden Paritosh Upadhyay said: "If the tiger is fit, we have plans to release it in the wild with a radio collar in consultation with National Tiger Conservation Authority." Purulia DFO Anjan Guha said they were in touch with their counterparts in Jharkhand. "It seems it was heading towards Jhalda but could not cross the turbulent Subarnarekha waters," he added. From Jharkhand's Palamau Tiger Reserve, one forest corridor goes to Purulia's Raika Hills via Chandil and Dalma. The tiger had taken the route earlier this year. The other corridor is via Jharkhand's Hazaribagh and Ranchi divisions to Purulia's Jhalda-Kotshila, which it was exploring. The tiger clicked in Raika Hills this Jan was photographed in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur forest division in April 2024 and then in Palamau in May-June 2024. After Purulia, the tiger was clicked in Jharkhand's Dalma.

For real-time tracking and pollution control, STPs to go online in Greater Noida
Noida: Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has begun integrating all sewage treatment plants (STPs) with an online monitoring system. Part of the broader Namami Gange Project, it aims to equip STPs across the state with real-time monitoring for efficiency and pollution control. These facilities recycle wastewater for irrigation in nearby green zones. The estimated cost of installing the online monitoring mechanism at each STP is approximately Rs 30 lakh. Apart from GNIDA officials, the system will also be monitored by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and authorities associated with the Namami Gange Project. The city currently has four operational STPs with a total treatment capacity of 172 million litres per day (MLD), but 109 MLD of sewage is treated daily. The sewer department has begun installing monitoring systems at the STP in Badalpur. Additional CEO Prerna Singh, GNIDA, said the system will now be expanded to other plants, including those in Ecotech Sectors 2 and 3."The installation at these two facilities is expected to be completed within the next two weeks. The largest of the four existing STPs, the 137 MLD plant in Kasna, is slated to get the system within a month," she said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida The estimated cost of installing the online monitoring mechanism at each STP is approximately Rs 30 lakh.
