Today is Cinco de Mayo, and we're here with plenty of food deals to enjoy the day.
Often confused with Mexico's Independence Day, May 5 isn't equivalent to July Fourth in the United States. The day actually marks an important battle against the French in 1862 when an undermanned Mexican army of enlisted soldiers and volunteers defeated 6,000 French troops, according to History.com.
The Mexican victory helped the American Confederacy in the Civil War, according to History.com. Newspapers reported Mexican-Americans and Latinos in California celebrating the Cinco de Mayo victory that year.
And we've been celebrating ever since.
Nearly one in five Americans (17%) plans to celebrate Cinco de Mayo this year, according to research firm Numerator. Most of the celebrators said they were planning to go out to eat (38%), gathering with family and friends (35%) or going out for drinks (33%), the firm's survey found.

GOP's health care plan: We're all going to die, so whatever

If death and taxes are the only certainties, Joni Ernst is here to cut one and fast-track the other. 'We all are going to die," she said. You might think that's a line from a nihilistic French play. Or something a teenage goth said in Hot Topic. Or an epiphany from your stoner college roommate after he watched Interstellar at 3 a.m. But that was actually the Iowa Senator's God-honest response to concerns that slashing Medicaid to achieve President Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill' would lead to more preventable deaths. The full exchange at a May 30 town hall included one audience member shouting at the stage, 'People will die!' And Ernst responding, 'People are not — well, we all are going to die, so for heaven's sake.' That's not a health care policy — that's a horoscope for the terminally screwed. As you can imagine, the internet didn't love it, because losing your health should not trigger the equivalent of a shrug emoji from someone elected to serve the public good. But rather than walking it back, Ernst leaned in, filming a mock apology in a graveyard because nothing says, 'I care about your future,' like filming next to people who don't have one. Ernst's comments aren't just philosophical musings. She's justifying policy choices that cause real harm. If passed, this bill would, according to the Congressional Budget Office, remove health coverage for up to 7.6 million Americans. That's not just 'we all die someday' territory. That's 'some people will die soon and needlessly.' What makes this even more galling is that the people pushing these cuts have access to high-quality, taxpayer-subsidized healthcare. Congress gets the AAA, platinum, concierge-level government plan. Meanwhile, millions of Americans are told to try their luck with essential oils or YouTube acupuncture tutorials. Honestly, it felt more like performance art than policy: 'Sorry about your grandma getting kicked out of her assisted living facility. Please enjoy this scenic view of her future! LOL!' We're not asking you to defeat death, senator. Death is both inevitable and bipartisan. But there is a broad chasm between dying peacefully at 85 and dying in your 40's because your Medicaid plan disappeared and your GoFundMe didn't meet its goal. Fundamentally, governing is about priorities. A budget is a moral document. When a lawmaker tells you 'we're all going to die' in response to a policy choice, they're telling you 'I've made peace with your suffering as collateral damage.' And if a U.S. Senator can stand in a cemetery and joke about it, you have to wonder — who do our federal legislators think those graves are for? This isn't just about one comment or one bill. It's about a mindset that treats healthcare as a luxury rather than a right. If death is inevitable, then access to healthcare you can afford is what helps determine how long you have, how comfortably you live, and whether you get to watch your kids grow up. Healthcare isn't about escaping death. It's about dignity and quality of life while we are here. Ernst got one thing right: death will come for us all. But leadership, real leadership, is about helping people live as long and as well as they can before that day comes. You want to make jokes, Senator? Fine. But if your punchline is 'You're all going to die anyway,' don't be surprised when your constituents realize the joke's on them.

WrestleMania 42 date and location confirmed by WWE

It was just a few weeks ago that word got out that New Orleans would no longer be hosting WrestleMania 42 as had been previously announced by none other than The Rock. The word going around was WWE was considering running Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. It would mean running the biggest show of the year in the same venue just one year after doing it at WrestleMania 41. But it's a different world in the TKO era, and 'Sin City' is the home of the UFC. Why not? Advertisement Sure enough, WWE announced during the Money in the Bank premium live event tonight in Inglewood that the reports were accurate and the show will indeed be heading back to Vegas on Sat., April 18 and Sun., April 19, 2026. The promo they aired had Triple H saying they were 'doubling down' and running it back. The above logo is actually pretty great, in this writer's humble opinion. And, hey, why not? More from

WrestleMania 42 location: WWE event returns to Las Vegas for second straight year

WrestleMania is headed back to Sin City. WWE will hold WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium for the second consecutive year, the company announced. It will be held April 18-19, with WrestleMania weekend events like SmackDown, the Hall of Fame Ceremony, NXT Stand and Deliver, and Raw After WrestleMania also taking place in the city. Advertisement Wrestling's grandest event returns to Las Vegas after WrestleMania 41 took place there this year on April 19-20. This will be the second time in WWE history that WrestleMania will take place at the same venue in back-to-back years. The first instance was in 1988 and 1989 when WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V was held at the Atlantic City Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The announcement comes weeks after WWE decided to move the host city for the 2026 edition of the event. In February, The Rock revealed during an episode of SmackDown that WrestleMania 42 would take place at the Caesars Superdome April 11-12. However, that changed three months later. In a joint statement with TKO Group Holdings, Inc., owner of WWE, The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation said WrestleMania 42 wouldn't take place in Louisiana, and instead the city would get the event in the future and New Orleans would get Money in the Bank 2026. No reason was given for why WWE changed plans. Digital screens display WrestleMania logos during the Undisputed WWE Championship match between John Cena and Cody Rhodes during WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium on April 20, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Why did WWE choose Las Vegas for WrestleMania 42? WWE did not specify why it opted to run it back in the same arena, but the idea of bringing WrestleMania back to Las Vegas was likely too enticing to pass up. Advertisement Not long after the news about the location being moved, reported Las Vegas was the leading contender to host. While it wasn't an ideal decision for most fans since WrestleMania just took place there and the show has traditionally gone around the U.S., it made sense why the move was made. WrestleMania 42 was a major success for WWE with the largest gate for any event in its history, with more than 124,000 fans for both nights. The event also broke merchandise, sponsorship and hospitality experiences records. WWE also was granted upwards of $4.24 million in tax credits for having the event in the city, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Plus, it can't be forgotten that TKO Group Holdings Inc., owner of WWE, also owns UFC, which is based in Las Vegas. Ownership's familiarity with the location and how to maximize profits from it is an easy move. The Las Vegas Strip was the ideal place to hold multiple events within close proximity of each other, rather than having to jump around different parts of the city. Mix in the fact the city is a top tourist destination, fans will definitely take over, generating millions for Las Vegas. WrestleMania 41 was too big of a success to not try again. WrestleMania Las Vegas history With WrestleMania returning to Allegiant Stadium, it will be the third time the event takes place in Las Vegas. Besides WrestleMania 41 in 2025, the first time it happened in the city was in 1993 when WrestleMania 9 took place at Caesar's Palace. It was a notable event since it was the first time WWE held the event outdoors. Advertisement For most the early years, WrestleMania was held in arenas, but it has taken place in stadiums since WrestleMania 23 in 2007 – with the exception of WrestleMania 36 due to COVID-19. This will mark the third WWE event Allegiant Stadium has hosted in its short history. SummerSlam 2021 took place at the indoor stadium and was the first professional wrestling event to happen there. The attendance of that event was 51,326. While it hasn't been confirmed, T-Mobile Arena is likely to host the shows part of the weekend. SmackDown, NXT Stand and Deliver and Raw After WrestleMania took place at the arena, and the Hall of Fame ceremony was at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas hotel. WrestleMania 41 was headlined as John Cena's final one as 2025 is his final year of in-ring competition. He beat Cody Rhodes in the main event to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship and become a record 17-time champion.
