Best Stock to Buy Right Now: Apple vs. Chipotle

It might seem like a strange comparison to pit Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) against each other, but these are two companies that are very popular among investors. While both face certain headwinds from things like tariffs and a bit of consumer uncertainty, I'm going to throw a real zinger out there, and call Chipotle the better investment at this time. Here's why. Financial trends First and foremost, let's look at how these two stocks have been doing. Over the last five years, Chipotle has been a much more consistent performer in terms of top-line revenue growth, expanding by 14.5% annually over the last few years. In comparison, Apple's momentum has slid since 2021, with revenue growth in the low single digits, and even negative 2.8% in 2023. Looking to 2025, both companies started out fairly strongly. Chipotle had year-over-year revenue growth of 6.4% in the first quarter, with a 7.7% increase in earnings per share to $0.28 per diluted share. Apple, in comparison, posted a 5% increase in revenue in its second fiscal quarter, while earnings were up a strong 8% to $1.65. On a trailing basis, Chipotle is a bit more expensive than Apple, carrying a P/E ratio of 44.8 vs. Apple's price-to-earnings ratio of 31.2, but I believe my next point will explain why Chipotle is still the better buy. Different stages in life Apple is a mature tech giant. Its iPhone, iPad, and Mac product lines have already penetrated global markets extensively. Growth now hinges on incremental innovations, services, and accessories -- areas that, while profitable, are already highly saturated and competitive. Take, for example, how many streaming services there are today as opposed to even a few years ago. Initiatives like Apple TV+ have a lot of competition now. Based on the sheer size of the company, it's going to be harder to hit high growth rates. Chipotle, by contrast, is still in a robust growth phase. With fewer than 4,000 stores and plans to expand in North America rapidly, Chipotle isn't resting on its laurels. It also recently announced its intentions to begin opening stores in Mexico by early 2026. It has significant room for physical footprint growth with the addition of international markets, giving it an untapped global potential. World events Let's face it. Tariffs are on everyone's mind right now. With President Donald Trump recently threatening Apple with a 25% tariff if they don't move their business back to the U.S., this is a nervous moment to hold a lot of Apple stock. When you consider how incredibly important the iPhone is to Apple's bottom line, this really matters. Chipotle, on the other hand, is arguably a little bit more insulated from all of the drama of global tech cycles, tech tariffs, semiconductor shortages, and international regulatory pressure. Sure, some of its food supply routes might experience some headaches, but we're not seeing food targeted the way big tech is. One worry is that the company did say earlier in the year that it would eat the costs of higher prices, rather than carrying them over to the consumer. That puts a damper on overall potential, but Chipotle still expects positive comp restaurant sales for the year. Conclusion The way I view it is fairly straightforward. Food is always in demand. Expensive phone upgrades and laptops are not. That gives Chipotle an edge. Apple remains a technological powerhouse, but its days of rapid growth may be behind it. Chipotle, on the other hand, is still a nimble, scalable company with strong brand loyalty, accelerating growth, and untapped markets. Should you invest $1,000 in Chipotle Mexican Grill right now? SPIRE continues to grow

HARPERSFIELD TOWNSHIP — The growth of SPIRE Academy continues in a variety of ways as more students are coming to the area and more businesses continue to open in the area. SPIRE Academy Chief Executive Officer Steve Sanders said enrollment for the recently completed school year was around 200 students and is projected to be 250-265 next year. He said the day-school program also is growing, with 15 students planning to come to the academy daily next fall. The construction of dormitories the last several years will be put on hold for a year, Sanders said. 'This will probably be the only year [dormitories aren't built],' Sanders said. He said the academy's credentialing process will likely be finalized in the next month, as well. A new traffic light at the northern entrance to SPIRE on Route 534 is in the final stages of approval from the Ohio Department of Transportation, Sanders said. He said the timing of the placement of the light is still being finalized. Several new businesses are on the horizon as well, Sanders said. He said a new Chipotle is planned for the area most recently occupied by Popp-a-razzi, which has moved to downtown Geneva. The building will be demolished and the construction of the restaurant will begin, Sanders said. A piece of property south of the Farmer Butcher Chef restaurant will likely become a Sheetz gas station and convenience store, Sanders said. The former Motel 6 on the west side of Route 534 is scheduled to be renovated into a Wyndham property in three to four months, Sanders said. The SPIRE Academy summer camp season is about to get started as well. 'This will be our biggest,' Sanders said. He said there were 1,850 campers last year, in many different sports, and will likely be around 2,000 this year. The SPIRE Academy basketball team recruiting class is growing as well, Sanders said. 'We are projecting a national-class team in year one,' he said. Sanders said there are already five Division I, potential NBA players, committed with several more likely to follow. The academy's running program is also moving ahead. Sanders said numerous athletes had national success this year, and many have signed with college programs. The academy is expanding into cross country, and creating a new course. He said land east of the present track and field building is being cleared for a new cross country course.

Max Homa offered food, head covers to local high school golf team before Memorial

Max Homa offered food, head covers to local high school golf team before Memorial PGA Tour player Max Homa loves him some Chipotle, so much that he can't help but spread the queso wealth with younger golfers. Homa played Santa Cilantro on May 27 by treating Memorial Tournament volunteers to lunch, then gifted members of the Olentangy boys and girls golf teams with Chipotle food and limited edition foil-wrapped Chipotle-themed headcovers that he autographed. As part of the promotion between Chipotle and Cobra golf, Homa appeared at the Powell Chipotle to make teen golfers' gastrointestinal dreams come true. "Aw, man, he is such a genuine guy and the great personality he has online is truly the same way he is in person," Olentangy coach Kelly Holly said of Homa. "He's such a good dude. I'm pulling for him at the Memorial." Homa is a Chipotle fanatic, so he felt right at home slipping away from Muirfield Village Golf Club to snack with his younger self. "Any time you get to meet up-and-coming golfers, it's awesome," Homa said. "One, it puts you back in their shoes and you realize now how much there is to learn and enjoy with golf, whether you play professionally or not. Then, also just to feel like, it still makes me laugh that a kid will be excited. I mean, you know how it is. It's like 16-year-olds are too cool for school, so when they get excited to get Chipotle and take a picture with me, I have to pinch myself a little bit." Homa pinched himself black and blue for another reason, too. "It's a dream to play on tour. It's probably a bigger dream for me to be friends with the CEO of Chipotle, to be quite honest," Homa said, referencing company CEO Scott Boatright. "Since college (at California), I have been going to that place just religiously. So it's crazy to think we're doing things together."
