BESCOM to launch digital portal for consumer grievance management
He made this announcement while addressing a workshop earlier this week, organised jointly by the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) and BESCOM, for the office bearers and members of the Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum (CGRF) at the KEB Engineers Association Hall.
'To strengthen consumer rights and improve accountability, a dedicated digital platform is being developed for managing consumer complaints. The Chief General Manager of Corporate Affairs has been entrusted with overseeing the grievance redressal process,' Sivashankar said.
He added that, as directed by the KERC Chairman, CGRFS has been constituted at the district level, comprising a Superintendent Engineer, an Executive Engineer, and independent members.
'Grievances must be addressed within stipulated timelines. If issues remain unresolved at the CGRF or corporate level, consumers can escalate their complaints to the KERC for further redressal,' he emphasised.
Inaugurating the workshop, KERC Chairman and retired Chief Secretary to the Government, P. Ravikumar, stressed the importance of delivering impartial and timely justice to consumers.
'Proactive engagement by authorities is essential for the success of this grievance redressal mechanism,' he said.
Highlighting the legal framework, KERC Legal Department Member and retired District Sessions Judge HK Jagadish noted, 'Sections 42(5) and 42(6) of the Electricity Act, 2003 mandate provisions for consumer grievance redressal. The CGRF and KERC, the Electricity Ombudsman, function as quasi-judicial bodies, as recognised by the Supreme Court and High Courts.'
During the workshop, KERC Technical Director Srinivasappa and retired judges Krishnaiah and IF Bidari briefed officials on technical issues and common challenges faced in consumer complaint resolution.
The event was also attended by KERC Secretary Siddeshwar, BESCOM Technical Director HJ Ramesh, Finance Director Mahadeva, GM of Administration and Human Resources Dr. Dayanand, GM of Consumer Relations Rajoji Rao, and Pushpa SA, Chief General Manager of Corporate Affairs. (ANI)

Himachal: HPSEBL seeks vigilance action against former employees
Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) management has written to state government and vigilance seeking action against former officers of the electricity board. The supply orders in this tender were issued in undue haste to the tune of ₹35 crores. This material is currently lying unutilized in open in different locations and most of it has lost its warranty period which is also a loss to the company. The management has also written to the state government and DGP Vigilance regarding the complete violation the supply code and Electricity Act for restoring disconnected connection of Gilvert Ispat without clearance of dues and later the said company went into liquidation and HPSEBL was not able to recover the dues. A pecuniary loss of ₹11.84 crore was caused to the company in 2012 due to this.

Karnataka's Minister for Energy KJ George New Delhi: In a major development, Karnataka's Minister for Energy KJ George refuted any connection between recent Income Tax department raids at a prominent tech park in Bengaluru and the state's smart meter initiative or the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) and said that they were 'a routine regulatory exercise' related to IT filings and had nothing to do with any government project. In a firm statement issued via his official social media handle, the minister termed the allegations circulating in a section of the media as 'completely baseless, misleading, and politically motivated.' 'There is no connection whatsoever between the smart meter project or BESCOM and the Income Tax department's raids,' George said. 'I strongly condemn this attempt to mislead the public and draw false links to the Energy Department.' This comes after the Income Tax Department conducted surveys from July 28 to 30 at multiple locations connected to George and real estate tycoon Jitu Virwani of the Embassy Group, including Golflinks Software Park Private Limited in Bengaluru. Reports on Thursday had mentioned that IT had raided Golflinks Software Park Private Limited in connection with smart meter-related matters. 'Routine proceedure' 'We formally and unequivocally clarify that the aforesaid Income Tax survey was a routine procedure carried out by the Income Tax Department under Section 133A of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and has no connection to public officials, State government departments, Bescom contracts, or smart meter-related matters,' Jacob Kuruvilla, Chief Executive Officer of Golflinks, said in a release. He added that Golflinks Software Park Private Limited operates in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 'Statutory filings, including Income Tax returns, have been duly and accurately submitted within the prescribed timelines, in accordance with the provisions of the Income Tax Act and related rules,' he noted.
