Guwahati: Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and the recently appointed state president of the party, Gaurav Gogoi, is likely to be summoned soon for interrogation in connection with the case over his alleged links with Pakistan, a highy placed source in the police said.
The source added that a letter would be written to the Lok Sabha Speaker, seeking permission to interrogate Gogoi, if required.
Gogoi's party colleague, senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, was interrogated by the SIT of the Assam police for about four hours on Thursday in connection with the case. He was questioned by the SIT regarding his statement during a press conference on Sunday, where he 'defended' Gaurav over the Pakistan link allegation against him.
Saying that he is waiting to join the interrogation by the SIT, Gogoi told the media, "SIT has to collect all the evidence in the case on their own. Instead of that, they have sought info from Ripun Bora. What did they do in the name of investigation if Bora has to give the info to them?" He added that the people of the state have already understood the politics hatched in the name of allegations and the investigation.
"We have been talking about the ongoing syndicate of coal, sand, and betel nut and the scams by the CM and a few of his close ministers, and we will take the issues to the people," he added.

Gogoi was appointed as the president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday. He succeeded Bhupen Kumar Borah. On Sunday, Bora, in a press conference, claimed that Sarma was trying to portray Gogoi as an ISI agent only because the BJP leader knows that the present govt will decisively lose the assembly elections next year if Gaurav is made the CM candidate of the opposition party. "Gaurav's wife might have visited Pakistan or got a salary for her work from Pakistan, what's the problem in that? Likewise, many Pakistani people are working in India legally," he said.
Following this, CM
Himanta Biswa Sarma
claimed that Bora made a "startling confession" that his party MP Gogoi's wife was on the "payroll of the Pakistan govt".
Earlier, Sarma had alleged that Gaurav visited Pakistan on the invitation of ISI, underwent training there, and worked closely with the establishment of the neighbouring nation.

Pak PM admits country went around with begging bowl, says allies no more expect it
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a stark admission of his country's financial woes, said even close allies no longer expect Islamabad to roam the world with a "begging bowl." Amid rising tensions with India, Sharif added that both he and Army chief Field Marshal General Asim Munir were unwilling to shoulder the weight of economic dependency any Pakistani military personnel in Quetta on Saturday, the provincial capital of restive Balochistan, Sharif called China a "time-tested" friend and Saudi Arabia a "trustworthy" and "reliable" ally. advertisement"China is the most time-tested friend of Pakistan. Saudi Arabia is one of the most reliable and trustworthy friends of Pakistan. This applies to Turkey, Qatar and the UAE," he said. "But let me point out abundantly here that they expect us now to engage them in trade, commerce, innovation, research and development, education and health, investments, and profitable ventures mutually. They no longer expect us to go there with a begging bowl," he stressed that Pakistan should fully utilise natural and human resources to tide over its economic challenges, adding that he and Field Marshal Asim Munir no longer want to carry the burden of dependency on their shoulders."I am the last person, along with Field Marshal Asim Munir, to carry this (economic) burden any more on our shoulders. The Almighty has blessed us with natural and human resources. We must make full use of them and deploy them for these very profitable ventures," he further Pakistani Prime Minister's remarks came at a time when its allies like Turkey have sided with Islamabad and condemned India's strikes on terror camps in the neighbouring May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, military strikes on nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people. Mallikarjun Kharge asks PM Modi to stop 'self praise', recuse himself from election campaign
Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public speeches after Operation Sindoor, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge urged him to "focus on the enemy instead of self-boasting" and to recuse himself from election campaign. "I don't like reacting to all his (Mr. Modi's) statements," Mr. Kharge said while addressing reporters in Bengaluru. "But my only request to him is that those in power should sometimes keep their mouth shut." Mr. Kharge questioned the Prime Minister's recent public statements and political activities, suggesting that Mr. Modi should temporarily step back from electoral campaigning. "Mr. Modi should recuse himself from elections and focus on the country. He should understand whatever has happened in the country and speak," he remarked. "I am saying without any political differences that he (Mr. Modi) should focus on the enemy instead of self-boasting that no one except for him would have done it. Our full support is with the Armed Forces," he said. Referring to ongoing developments linked to Operation Sindoor, Mr. Kharge noted that Congress delegations had travelled abroad for consultations. "Let them come back. Till they return, it is not proper to be touring around and giving speeches," he said. The Opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha reiterated the Congress party's unwavering support for the Indian Armed Forces. The Congress chief also took a swipe at the Prime Minister's earlier assertion that the military had been given a free hand. "When Mr. Modi has said he has given full power to the armed forces, then why is he claiming that he did it? Self-boasting is not good." Emphasising the need for political restraint during sensitive times, Mr. Kharge said, "We will not say anything as the situation is not normal." He cited the example of restraint shown in Pakistan's Parliament during previous India-Pakistan tensions, stating, "When the clashes broke out between India and Pakistan, a discussion started in Pakistan's Parliament not to speak anything against the country." "So long as there is an army, we all are safe. That's why we support the armed forces," he said.
