Seven months of rigorous rehab on her knee led Maddie Coupal to the leadoff spot for Bishop Feehan softball
It represented a massive loss for the Shamrocks last season, as Coupal watched her teammates and friends from the sidelines. This year, the senior shortstop, committed to play for Boston University, leads off and has reinvigorated
Through her first 29 at-bats, Coupal has hammered out a .345 average, 17 runs, five home runs, and eight RBIs and serves as one of the best defensive shortstops in the state.

Coupal, a North Attleboro resident, received surgery on Dec. 12, 2023. For the first week post-reconstruction, she was restricted to the couch.
'It's very difficult, honestly,' she reflected. 'It's pretty hard mentally. You need to keep reminding yourself to take it day-by-day. It's challenging, but I learned a lot . . . It made me stronger, for sure.'

The ensuing couple of months consisted going to physical therapy three times a week. At first, exercises were designed to bend the knee a couple of degrees. Eventually, she could fully bend and straighten it.
A step in the right direction, but not the final battle.

Next came running. Then cutting. Then picking back up softball activities. Many softball drills feature kneeling, which induced a great deal of pain. Coupal retrained her body and hardened her mind. Building up stamina is one thing — confidence is another.
Can I still trust my knee?
It's not easy to be brave, exactly what's necessary to overcome the mental hurdles associated with a debilitating injury. It took Coupal seven months to regain her previous form.
'I learned that you have to be as tough as you can,' she said. 'Going through an injury like that, being away from softball for so long, it made me more grateful to be able to play. It's a good reminder to think about that and have to come back from that, to reset from that perspective. When I fail, it helps me reset.'

Coupal's stance features a wide base, her hands high and tight to her head. By constricting the zone with plenty of knee bend, she can explode through the ball.
In the third inning of a 10-2 victory against Archbishop Williams, Coupal laced a ground ball through the left side that reached the outfield before the infielders could take two steps.

In the bottom of the fifth, Coupal shuffled three paces to her left, collected a hot ground ball, and in one motion, fired sidearm to first base. It was textbook, exactly how a coach would teach the play.
Nine out of 10 times, that's a base hit — or at least eats up the shortstop. For Coupal, it was routine.
'If you watch her play, it's another level,' said Milot. 'She's playing at another level than anyone else on the field. She's so smooth going to the ball, it's incredible. She knows the game so well.'

Longtime Browns RB and legend Nick Chubb expected to sign with Texans
Longtime Browns RB and legend Nick Chubb expected to sign with Texans We have likely seen the last of running back Nick Chubb in a Cleveland Browns uniform. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has reported that, barring a bad physical, the former All-Pro running back is expected to sign with the Houston Texans on Monday. This comes after Chubb suffered season-ending injuries in back-to-back seasons to end his time in Cleveland. This includes a devastating tear of his ACL and MCL in 2023. The writing was on the wall in Cleveland at the end of April. The Browns drafted not one, but two running backs in the middle rounds of the 2025 NFL draft. They used a top-40 pick on Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins, then turned around to use their fourth round pick on Tennessee's Dylan Sampson. The Browns also renegotiated the final year of Jerome Ford's contract to lower his base salary, effectively securing his roster spot. The Browns have committed to overhauling their running back room with youth. Chubb ends his time in Cleveland with over 6,800 yards and 51 touchdowns on the ground. He made four Pro Bowls during his time in Northeast Ohio. He will forever go down as one of the best to put on the brown and orange uniform over his seven years spent in Cleveland. Best of luck to a Cleveland legend as he looks to rejuvenate his career in Houston.

Mavericks reportedly have workout set with Cooper Flagg ahead of NBA Draft
The Dallas Mavericks now have a workout set with Cooper Flagg. The Mavericks have a scheduled private visit for the former Duke star on June 17, according to ESPN's Shams Charania and Jonathan Givony. Dallas, which owns the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft later this month, does not plan to work out any other prospects before the draft. Flagg isn't planning any additional visits, either, and 'both sides are aligned on his arrival' in Dallas, per the report. Advertisement While things can still change between now and the NBA Draft on June 25, all signs continue to point toward the Mavericks selecting Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick. The Mavericks, just months after trading away superstar Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, won the NBA Draft lottery for the first time in franchise history this spring. They had just a 1.8% chance to win the lottery. Flagg has long been considered the clear favorite to go No. 1 in the draft this summer. The 18-year-old, who was one of the most coveted prospects in college basketball history, averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists with the Blue Devils last season while helping them reach the Final Four. The Blue Devils dominated in the ACC, where they went 19-1, and Flagg was the consensus National Player of the Year. Advertisement While the Mavericks were thrust into turmoil after the Dončić trade — the fan base immediately turned on general manager Nico Harrison after the deal, repeatedly and loudly calling for his ousting — Flagg will get to step into a roster alongside Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from an ACL injury. The Mavericks, who reached the NBA Finals in 2024, went just 39-43 last season and finished in 10th in the Western Conference standings.

Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray named one of NFL's biggest enigmas entering 2025
Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray named one of NFL's biggest enigmas entering 2025 Bucky Brooks names the league's seven biggest enigmas in 2025. Kyler Murray is one of them. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is perhaps the team's most polarizing figures. He might be one of the more polarizing players in the league. We saw the talent early in his career and has played stretches of seasons at an MVP level. But he also has had very average stretches, too. As such, Bucky Brooks calls him one of the seven biggest enigmas in the league entering 2025, players who flash greatness but are frustrating. The former No. 1 overall pick is a gifted playmaker with a pair of Pro Bowls and the 2019 Offensive Rookie of the Year award on his résumé. At times, Murray has played at a high level and captivated the football world as an electric dual-threat quarterback. However, the seventh-year pro sports a 36-45-1 career record and lacks a playoff win as the Cardinals' QB1, having thrown two picks and posted a 40.9 passer rating in his lone postseason appearance. Though his early accomplishments prompted Arizona to sign him to a blockbuster extension (five years, $230.5 million) back in the 2022 offseason, the Cardinals need him to provide more consistent excellence to justify the return on their investment in a league that measures quarterback success by wins and rings. There are reasons for his uneven play. Injuries to him and key players in 2021 derailed their season, leading to their playoff blowout loss. 2022 was just a dumpster fire of a season for a lot of reasons, Murray's play included. But in 2023, he played the back half of the season coming back from ACL surgery with a roster that was gutted. He was better in 2024 but the Cardinals lost five of their final seven games and he turned the ball over more. He has been the quarterback to late seasons failures (2020, 2021, 2024), and while reasons can be given, he needs to shake that reputation. This season is important because the talent on the team more resembles what the Cardinals had in 2021. The defense has been overhauled and, when the Cardinals played great defense in the first half of 2021, Murray was the leading MVP candidate. Is this the year he had things right and carries the weight as a franchise quarterback, or will he simply be the quarterback who is good but not consistently great enough to be the difference maker on a winning team?
