I-Bhd commits RM10mil to AI, robotics rollout across income-generating portfolio
SHAH ALAM: I-Bhd , the master developer of I-City, has announced an initial commitment of RM10 million to roll out artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics infrastructure across its portfolio of income-generating assets.
In a statement, the company said the rollout, expected to be completed in 2028, will begin with the AI-Driven Enhancement at Mercu Maybank, a 33-storey corporate tower that serves as Maybank's alternate head office in i-City.
According to the statement, the implementation will extend to other assets, including Wyndham Suites I-City, Wyndham Suites KLCC, Wyndham Garden, DoubleTree by Hilton i-City, Central-City Mall, I-City theme park, car parks, a data centre, and residential developments in i-City.
"This rollout builds on the success of I-Bhd's pivot towards 'extracting value from the land', a strategy first introduced in 2024 to unlock long-term value from its RM10 billion gross development value (GDV) in i-City.
"With over 50 per cent of the completed GDV made up of income-yielding properties, the group is now entering a phase focused on performance optimisation, operational scalability, and intelligent infrastructure,' it said.
The statement added that the four-year technology roadmap is designed to embed automation into both internal operations and customer-facing experiences, including predictive maintenance, visitor flow management, and robotics-assisted service delivery across commercial, retail, and hospitality spaces.
"The group's i-City SuperApp will serve as the central platform for integrating Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) capabilities across its asset ecosystem, with future plans for tenants to tap into shared infrastructure to optimise their operations,' it noted.
The company also noted that it is currently in discussion with leading robotics and AI partners, including Unitree, DeepSeek, and Baidu, as it positions i-City as a scalable, AI-powered development.
Meanwhile, chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong said the group is not only addressing current demand but also future-proofing its assets by developing an intelligent urban ecosystem where performance, user experience, and data integration are aligned to generate long-term value for stakeholders.
He added that the group has demonstrated its ability to generate recurring income and is now strengthening that foundation with intelligent systems designed to improve efficiency, adaptability, and long-term resilience across its assets.

(Wiki pic) SINGAPORE : India's coal-fired electricity generation in May fell at the fastest pace in five years, as overall power demand declined for the first time since August and renewable energy generation rose to a record high, a Reuters analysis of government data showed. Increased generation from less polluting power sources including hydro and nuclear also led to a decline in natural gas-fired power output, which fell at the steepest rate in nearly three years, a review of data from the federal power grid regulator Grid India showed. The decline in demand for fossil fuels for electricity generation in India – the second largest importer of coal and the fourth biggest buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) – comes at a time when benchmark prices of the fuels are under pressure. 'Demand from the power sector – typically strong during peak season – remained limited. Additionally, economic headwinds have weighed on non-power industries,' Indian coal trader I-Energy said in a note this week. Asian spot LNG prices LNG-AS have declined more than 15% this year, while benchmark prices of thermal coal have plunged to more than 4-year lows due to weak demand from China and India – the top coal importing countries. India's coal-fired power generation fell 9.5% in May on an annual basis to 113.3 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), a review of data from the federal power grid regulator Grid India showed, marking the sharpest year-on-year decline since June 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic led to a nationwide lockdown. A sustained slowdown in demand for fossil fuels for power generation could help the world's third largest emitter of greenhouse gases slash emissions after it previously boosted its reliance on coal to power a post-pandemic economic recovery. India has repeatedly cited lower per capita emissions compared with richer nations to defend its high coal use. Utilities in China and India have cut dependence on coal and LNG imports this year also due to record coal stocks and slower growth in power demand. India had forced gas-based power plants to operate last year to meet high power demand as temperatures soared. As power demand is lower and prices are high for gas-fired power to be competitive with other sources such as solar this year, utilities will buy fewer volumes, said Prashant Vashisth, vice president at Moody's affiliate ICRA. Total electricity generation in May fell 5.3% year-on-year to 160.4 billion kWh, the data showed, with the highest peak demand about 8% lower on-year at 231 GW, mainly due to milder temperatures, government officials said. Peak demand – a measure of the maximum electricity requirement over any given time – reached 250 GW during a heatwave in May 2024. Meanwhile, renewable energy output surged to a record high of 24.7 billion kWh in May, up 17.2% from a year earlier, with its share in the overall power mix rising to 15.4% – the highest since records began in 2018. The share of coal in India's power mix dropped to 70.7% in May, down from 74.0% a year earlier and the lowest level since June 2022, according to the Grid India data. Hydropower generation jumped 8.3% to 14.5 billion kWh, accounting for 9.0% of total generation compared to 7.9% in May 2024, the data showed. Natural gas-fired power generation fell 46.5% annually to 2.78 billion kWh in May, the steepest decline since October 2022.

RM10 million for young women entrepreneurs

Tenom: The Sabah Government has allocated RM10 million through a collaboration between the Institute for Development Studies (IDS) Sabah and the Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) to empower young women entrepreneurs in the State. 'The fund is channelled through loans to young women entrepreneurs to help them expand their businesses,' said IDS Director Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun Banir. She said the loan funding is implemented under the Young Women Entrepreneurs Empowerment Programme (Dayang) introduced by IDS and SCC which has been mandated by the Sabah Government to manage the initiative. 'This is an initiative by the Sabah Government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to support young women entrepreneurs involved in various business sectors,' she told the media after officiating the Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs: Women's Power, Economic Power programme organised by IDS and SCC in collaboration with the Tenom District Office at the Dewan Datuk Seri Panglima Antenom, here, Wednesday. Azizah said through the Dayang programme, young women entrepreneur can apply for a minimum loan of RM10, 000 and a maximum of RM50, 000. She added that with this loan funding, they can expand their businesses while improving the quality of their products. 'We are confident that the products of our young women entrepreneurs can penetrate the international market if they continue to receive support. In fact, some products from young women entrepreneurs have already entered the global market,' she said, referring to entrepreneur Emily Jeneble, a handicraft entrepreneur from Kampung Batu Lunguyan in Sook, renowned for her expertise in bamboo weaving. Azizah said Emily not only produces bamboo-woven products such as handbags and souvenirs but has also successfully assisted over 300 women beneficiaries in her village and surrounding areas. 'Her efforts have helped generate sustainable income for rural women in Sabah. I understand that the annual sales from the Kampung Batu Lunguyan community exceed RM500, 000 per year, a very impressive figure,' she added. Earlier in her speech, Azizah said the programme helps realise the initiatives outlined in the Sabah Budget 2025. She said in the budget, the government announced financial incentives and capital assistance specifically for young women entrepreneurs through the Empowering Young Women Entrepreneurs Programme. 'Among the objectives of this programme is to assist young women in venturing into business, particularly in overcoming capital constraints. This is because the government recognises and respects the role of young women as agents of change in Sabah's socio-economic landscape,' she said. In this regard, she said IDS and SCC have been mandated by the government to manage this programme by introducing the Dayang loan scheme. 'The combination of expertise between a research body and a financial institution will ensure more efficient program implementation, focusing on the impact on young women entrepreneurs. This is the first collaboration of its kind and IDS hopes it will continue to help the Sabah Government enhance various entrepreneurial programs in the State,' she said. She said that after being launched by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun on Feb 27, 2025, at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu, the Young Women Entrepreneurs Empowerment Tour Series 1 was held in Beaufort and Ranau. At the same time, Azizah encouraged young women entrepreneurs to make the most of the opportunities provided. 'You may be eligible for this loan to start a new business or expand an existing one,' she said. She also urged young women entrepreneurs in the district to view entrepreneurship not just as a means of livelihood but as a platform to empower communities, preserve heritage and build a brighter future. Present were SCC Deputy Chairman Datuk Surinam Sadikun, IDS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Ramzah Dambul, SCC Chief Executive Officer Datuk George Taitim Tulas and Melalap Community Development Leader Simon Mamat, among others. Ex-pay TV staff faces 743 charges, faints in court on 30th
KUALA LUMPUR: A former employee of a pay TV company fainted in court after the 30th of 743 charges was read out to her for allegedly tampering with customer account data by converting regular accounts to corporate accounts. Nora Idayu Jaafar,48, collapsed in the dock shortly after entering her non-guilty plea to the 30th charge before Sessions Court judge Norma Ismail. The proceedings had to be halted while the court's security personnel and medical assistants from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital were deployed to the courtroom to provide assistance. After Nora Idayu regained consciousness, Norma released her on a RM10,000 bail in one surety for all 30 charges. The judge ordered her to return to the court on June 26 to face the remaining 713 charges. The court also ordered her to report to the police station once a month and surrender her passport. Nora Idayu, who was an associate of the commercial support unit, is accused of converting the regular clients account to corporate account without authorisation on Astro's Amdocs CRM database. She claimed trial to each of the 30 charges framed under Section 5(1) of the Computer Crimes Act punishable under Section 5(4) of the same act. Each charge carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a jail term not exceeding seven years or both upon conviction. She allegedly committed the offences at Astro's office in Menara Icon at Jalan Tun Razak. Deputy public prosecutor Rohaiza Abdul Rahman prosecuted while Nora Idayu had no legal representation.
