‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Gets Muppet Fever In Season 4
Announced today during Trek's blockbuster Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Jordan Canning (who directed season 2's 'Charades', but perhaps more crucially here, also directed seven episodes of the Fraggle Rock revival, Back to the Rock) will direct an episode in the upcoming fourth season of Strange New Worlds that will see the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise turned into puppets. Anson Mount's Captain Pike beamed into the convention to let fans know… well, kind of:
Nothing else was revealed about the episode, other than the fact Paramount will be working with the fine purveyors of puppet technology at the Jim Henson Creature Shop to bring Pike and the rest of the crew to fabric life for the episode. Strange New Worlds' penultimate, fourth season is currently expected to hit Paramount+ sometime next year.
That wasn't the only Strange New Worlds news out of the convention, however: with the show's third season currently airing, fans in attendance were treated to an early screening of next week's episode, 'A Space Adventure Hour'. Set to hit Paramount+ next Thursday, July 31, the Jonathan-Frakes-directed episode—which sees security chief La'an test out an early prototype holodeck system with a program that, in true Trek style, starts getting dangerous—will also stream for free between July 31 and August 6 on Pluto TV, Paramount+ (as well as its channels available through Amazon, Apple, and Roku), and the Paramount+ YouTube channel.

‘Wizard of Oz' blown up by AI for giant Sphere screen
In Brief The massive Las Vegas venue known as Sphere will be screening its first classic movie, 'The Wizard of Oz,' starting on August 28. And as detailed in a segment on CBS Sunday Morning, this isn't just a matter of taking the existing movie and projecting it on Sphere's 160,000 square foot, wraparound LED screen. Instead, Sphere Entertainment CEO James Dolan said a 2,000-person team is creating a new experience. That includes using AI to both increase the resolution of the existing film and expand the footage beyond the frame of what was actually shot. For example, Turner Classic Movie presenter Ben Mankiewicz said that through the use of AI, 'a grainy close-up of Dorothy becomes richly detailed, and then through a process called outpainting — though it seems like magic — we see the rest of the Scarecrow, the Yellow Brick Road, and the mountains of Oz.' In other cases, expanding the frame means creating new performances from the existing actors. Despite these changes, Dolan said, 'Our standard on this was not to modify the film at all but to try and bring you into the film, as if you were in the studio when it was shot.'

WWE legend expresses regret he was unable to speak to Hulk Hogan before his death
WWE Hall of Famer known as Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake expressed some regret that he had been unable to see Hulk Hogan before he passed away at the age of 71. Beefcake, whose real name is Ed Leslie, spoke to TMZ Sports on Saturday about his longtime friendship with Hogan. He said he had heard whispers that "The Hulkster" had not been doing so well, and he had thought about going to Hogan's Clearwater, Florida, home to visit him. "I was going to try to go to his house a couple of days ago. My wife said, 'You should just go over there.' And I was thinking, 'Oh, my God,' but if I go to the house and they say, 'No, you can't come in,' it would have crushed me. So I didn't, and now I wish maybe that I had tried to get in and tried to get to see him before he passed," he said. Beefcake was asked what he would have told Hogan if he had had one more chance to talk to him. "I love you brother, and we were truly friends to the end," he said. Beefcake said Hogan's friendship meant everything to him and that he had helped him break into the pro wrestling business. He recalled the great lengths that Hogan had gone to, to be there for him in his own time of need. Beefcake had been in a parasailing accident in July 1990, and Hogan had made the trip to see him. "I was in a horrible accident and not expected to live. And he left his family in California. His wife was about to have a baby, his son Nick, to fly to Florida to be there, because the doctor said they didn't think I was going to make it. And he flew there to be there for me. "And when they brought me out of a drug-induced coma, and he said to me, 'Don't even think about it. Brutus, you're going to live.' And I did. And he was there for me at the moment I needed the most." Beefcake and Hogan teamed together at the very early stages of their careers. They were known as The Boulder Brothers at the time. He was known as Brutus Beefcake when he first got started in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The two also were in the main event match for World Championship Wrestling's (WCW) Starrcade in 1994. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2019. Hogan died at a hospital on Thursday, an hour after he had had a cardiac event at his home.
