Happiest Health Hosts Second Edition of ‘Happiest Her' Summit in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Health and wellness platform Happiest Health successfully concluded the second edition of its flagship women's wellness summit, Happiest Her 2025, on Saturday at Pope Paul VI Auditorium, St. John's Campus, Bengaluru. The event brought together over 250 participants, including healthcare professionals, fitness experts, and mental health advocates, to spotlight the health and well-being of working women in India.
The summit was inaugurated by Davis Karedan, Co-Chairman of Happiest Health, alongside NIMHANS Director Dr. Pratima Murthy, and Co-CEOs Raghu Krishnan and Ravi Joshi. Dr. Murthy, in her keynote address on "Empowering Young Working Women", stressed the role of lifestyle choices in shaping long-term health. "Genes load the gun, lifestyle pulls the trigger," she remarked, underlining the importance of exercise and balanced nutrition in preventing chronic diseases.
A panel on Metabolism and Poor Lifestyle Choices featured leading voices in women's health, including gynaecologist Dr. Vidya V Bhat, psychologist Dr. Paras Sharma, and athlete-entrepreneur Saraswathi Anand. Anand spoke of her journey from a busy professional and mother to an international powerlifting champion, urging women to find time for fitness despite packed schedules.
Nutritionist Ryan Fernando, founder of Qua Nutrition, conducted a high-energy session on common diet mistakes, advising women to focus on building muscle. 'Muscle is the hero in your body,' he said, calling for a systematic investment in strength training for lifelong health.
The summit, through its expert-led discussions, highlighted challenges such as PCOS, stress, and metabolic disorders, while offering practical pathways to better health. As part of its ongoing efforts, Happiest Health announced that its current magazine issue focuses on strength training, and its diagnostics wing is now offering a gut microbiome test across India.

Strict monitoring of street and hotel food essential for public health: Karnataka Minister Sharan Prakash Patil
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 7 (ANI): Emphasising the need for stringent regulation of food quality, Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, Karnataka Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood urged both state and central food and drug authorities to closely monitor and regulate the standards of street and hotel food. Speaking at the World Food Safety Day programme organised by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at NIMHANS on Saturday, Dr Patil highlighted the serious health risks posed by unhygienic and adulterated food. 'Children and the elderly are often the worst affected by low-quality food sold in public spaces. Strict enforcement by government agencies is essential to ensure safety,' he said, addressing the gathering that included Union Health Minister J P Nadda and department secretary Punya Salila Srivastava. A medical professional himself, Dr Patil pointed out that vendors frequently use banned colours and chemicals to enhance the taste and appearance of food, which can lead to severe health complications, sometimes even proving fatal. He encouraged youth and children to choose home-cooked meals over street food. 'Our ancestors have handed down healthy food habits. It's time we return to those practices. Eating right is a sign of a progressive nation,' he said. On the occasion, the minister launched the 'Eat Right Activity Book' by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), aimed at raising awareness on food safety, hygiene, and nutrition among schoolchildren and communities. He also flagged off 'Food Safety on Wheels', a mobile unit for training, testing and creating public awareness on healthy food practices. The event concluded with the Institute Body (IB) and Governing Body (GB) meetings of NIMHANS, chaired by Union Minister J P Nadda. MPs P C Mohan and Lehar Singh, and NIMHANS Director Dr Pratima Murthy were also present. Earlier Union Health Minister JP Nadda on June 3 said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the focus of India's national health policy is to develop a 'holistic health care system', which not only focuses curative part in health care but also emphasises on the preventive care, palliative care, rehabilitative care, geriatric care and promotional health care. Karnataka CM announces ₹10 lakh aid for Bengaluru stampede victims' kin, orders magisterial inquiry
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the media on Wednesday, stating that the turnout for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations exceeded expectations. Tragically, 11 people lost their lives and 33 others were injured in a stampede-like incident near Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the parade. The Karnataka CM has announced ₹ 10 lakh aid for victims' families. He has also ordered magisterial inquiry into the stampede-like situation. Among the injured, one individual is reported to be in critical condition. The injured have been admitted to Bowring and Vydehi Hospitals, with some suffering head injuries being transferred to NIMHANS for specialised care. The incident occurred as vast crowds gathered to celebrate the team's historic triumph. 'This was a major tragedy. People have died in a stampede. 11 lives have been lost and 33 others are seriously injured. Around 14 people have taken treatment at outpatient facility. I visited the hospital. Such an incident should never have happened, and the government deeply regrets it.' 'The turnout was far beyond what we anticipated. In front of Vidhana Soudha, nearly one lakh people had gathered, but there were no incidents there. However, at Chinnaswamy Stadium, there were casualties. No one, neither the Cricket Association nor the government, expected this, as the stadium has a seating capacity of about 35,000. We assumed only a slightly larger crowd would show up. But almost two to three lakh people gathered.' 'Most of the deceased are young. The government will provide a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives.' A magisterial enquiry has been ordered. Following this probe, action will be taken against whoever responsible. But this incident was unexpected. Such a crowd was not expected. He wrote, 'Those who came to witness RCB's IPL victory celebrations have been struck by tragedy and loss, bringing deep pain and shock. My heartfelt condolences to the deceased and their families. Let pride in our team never outweigh the value of life. I appeal to everyone to please stay safe.

KaBHI staff want to continue services
Mangaluru: Healthcare personnel employed under the Karnataka Brain Health Initiative (KaBHI) have appealed to the health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao to continue their employment across all districts in the state. A delegation of KaBHI staff met the minister during a grievance meeting at the Circuit House in Mangaluru on Saturday, and submitted a memorandum. They explained that nearly 165 staff members including neurologists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, clinical psychologists, nurses, and district co-ordinators will lose their jobs if the govt conducts separate recruitments without considering the experience of those who are currently working in various districts. "We worked under the KaBHI programme since Dec 2023, after successfully writing the exam and passing the interview conducted through Nimhans. While working as per the guidelines of the Karnataka govt, we ensured that the KaBHI programme, the first brain health initiative in India, was implemented successfully in the state. However, preparations are being made to conduct fresh recruitments.
