Malaysia's first ethnic Chinese 3-star general makes history in Malay-dominated military

Malaysia 's armed forces made a historic move when it promoted Johnny Lim Eng Seng to lieutenant general on Monday. Lim is the first ethnic Chinese serviceman to reach the rank of a three-star senior officer.
It was a significant promotion in the country's Malay-dominated military, which has long struggled to attract interest from among the ethnic Chinese and ethnic Indian minorities to enlist as soldiers.
Lim, who hails from Melaka state in the peninsula's south, has been with the armed forces for over 40 years.
A graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK, he was commissioned into the Malaysian Royal Ranger Regiment before rising to his current post as commandant of the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College.
'It is truly something special. To say I am very proud of the achievement is an understatement. All the sacrifices made have been worth it,' he said, as quoted by The Star newspaper.
Lim joined the army in 1984, during Malaysia's communist insurgency. His mother was initially reluctant to let her eldest child join up, he said. 'However, her love for me erased all doubts and she eventually gave her blessing.'

Pakistan's new rocket force aims to match India's missile capabilities

Pakistan will create a new force in the military to supervise missile combat capabilities in a conventional conflict, apparently a move to match the neighbouring arch-rival India. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the creation of the Army Rocket Force late on Wednesday at a ceremony held in Islamabad to commemorate the worst conflict in decades with India in May. The ceremony was held a day ahead of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day. 'It will be equipped with modern technology,' Sharif said in a statement from his office, adding that the force will prove to be a milestone in strengthening the combat capability of Pakistan's army. He did not give any further details. A senior security official, however, said that the force will have its own command in the military, which will be dedicated to the handling and deployment of missiles in the event of a conventional war.

Philippine military slams ‘fabricated' video of stand-off with Malaysian navy

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has slammed as 'fabricated' a video about an alleged stand-off with the Royal Malaysian Navy over contested Sabah waters and fishing rights. Manila's navy confirmed it had sent a guided missile frigate, the BRP General Antonio Luna, to Malaysia for a long-planned joint military exercise. On Twitter and Facebook, the armed forces late on Tuesday said a circulating 12-minute YouTube video entitled 'Philippines vs. Malaysia : Tensions Rise over Sabah and the South China Sea' never happened. The video – with images generated through AI and uploaded on InfoSpark Hub – opens dramatically with a Philippine Navy Corvette, the BRP Magat Salamat, cutting 'through the early morning haze, moving steadily towards a cluster of fishing boats operating in the contested waters' on Monday, according to a narrative voice. The Malaysian patrol vessel KD Pahang then moves to block the path of the Philippine corvette, 'demanding, over radio, that the Filipinos change course and leave what Malaysia claimed as its territorial waters'. The Philippine captain refuses to yield, according to the video. 'He insisted, with unwavering conviction, that his ship was operating within Philippine waters, and that they would not be intimidated into retreat. For hours, the two warships floated just hundreds of metres apart, their guns uncovered and crews at battle station.'
