Plans to save BBC Scotland's Dumbarton Studios unveiled
However, in March, BBC Scotland said it planned to close Dumbarton Studios when its lease for the facility ends in September 2026, following the news that it was axing its long-running drama River City.

With uncertainty surrounding the future of the studios, production firm Firewalker Pictures has unveiled its plans to safeguard Dumbarton Studios' legacy by taking over the facility and offering a new 'vibrant home' for Scottish and international productions.
Maureen Hascoet, director of Firewalker Pictures, told our sister title The National that Dumbarton Studios has long been a cornerstone of Scotland's creative industry and that 'it deserves more than to fade into history'.
'Our vision is to preserve its heritage while opening the doors to fresh voices, emerging filmmakers, and groundbreaking content,' she said.
Hascoet (left) added: 'Who we choose to be right now as an industry and how we show up in this deal will determine our destiny.'

'It's about more than preserving Scotland's film and TV infrastructure.
'It's about investing in ourselves as storytellers and finding our place as leaders in the global economy."
Hascoet said that Firewalker Pictures plans to invest in upgrading the facilities, in a bid to ensure the studios remain a competitive and attractive location for both domestic and international productions.
She added that her firm is committed to working with the local community, industry partners, and government bodies to ensure that Dumbarton Studios continues to play a key role in Scotland's cultural and economic future.
Hascoet stressed that the proposed acquisition is still in its early stages; however, Firewalker Pictures is engaging in ongoing discussions with the current owners of the site, Westerwood Properties.
The owner of the Edinburgh-based property firm Westerwood Properties previously told The National they would look at possibilities of developing a new building for the studio if BBC Scotland wanted to stay.

Edinburgh festivals – our best reviews from the second week
Our reviewers have been busy out and about at the Fringe and the International Festival this week. And they have found some four (and five) star gems. All of our Festival coverage can be read over here. Ahir Shah: Work in Progress Ahir Shah has become an established Fringe performer. After a series of nominations, he finally won the main Comedy Award in 2023. On the back of his Fringe successes, he's become a regular media figure, featuring on BBC Radio 4 (Ahir Shah's 7 Blunders of the World) and also has had HBO and Netflix specials. This year Shah is performing a limited series of shows (14 -24), advertised as a work in progress but very much on course to becoming a fully realised show. Read more here. Orpheus and Eurydice Despite the richness of the English language, I think there are not enough superlatives to praise the creation of this rendition of Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice. From the very opening where we see the superb funambulist as Eurydice descend twisting into the underworld hanging from a harness to the final dénouement, the staging was outstanding, the music perfection, the singing immensely moving, and the acrobatics stunning. Writing in 1976, the historian Owen Dudley Edwards suggested that 'there is little of Edinburgh, and even less of Scotland in the Festival'. Many see the Festival and Fringe as something imposed from outside on the people of Edinburgh. Such narratives persist. It's also widely argued that working class voices are marginalised within the Fringe. ScotRail rolls with it in busiest 2025 week as Oasis fans flock to Edinburgh
Around 328,000 people travelled with ScotRail on Friday August 8, when Liam and Noel Gallagher and their band took to the stage for the first of three sellout gigs at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. That total was up by almost a fifth (19%) compared with the same day last year. With the third Oasis concert taking place in the capital on Tuesday August 12, ScotRail said it had carried a total of 1,995,000 people over the week commencing Friday August 8. David Ross, chief operating officer at the rail operator said: 'This week once again confirms that ScotRail is increasingly the travel mode of choice for people going to large events in Scotland. 'The fact that we've just delivered the busiest week of 2025 so far shows how important large concerts and events are to our business and the Scottish economy. 'Our frontline staff once again delivered an excellent service for almost two million customers who chose to travel with ScotRail.'
