Man charged with attempted murder after Edinburgh home 'firebombed twice' amid gang war

Kurtis Young, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, after he was arrested in connection with two deliberate fires ar the same property.
A man has appeared in court after an Edinburgh home was allegedly "firebombed" twice within days amid a gangland turf war across Scotland.
Kurtis Young, of no fixed abode, was arrested on Friday by another police force and charged by Police Scotland in connection with "two fire raisings".

The 41-year-old appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday charged with two counts of attempted murder, danger to life and wilful fire raising. He made no plea and was remanded in custody. Young's next appearance is due to take place in the next eight days.

We previously told how the property on Hay Drive in the Niddrie area went up in flames in the early hours of Friday, April 4 - the second time in a fortnight. No one was injured in the fire, which spread to a family home next door.
At the time police said the attack was linked to a wave of firebombings and gun attacks in the capital. The same property had been targeted on March 23.
Last night, police confirmed another arrest has also been made as officers continue to investigate linked violent incidents that have blighted both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
A 24-year-old man was also arrested and charged in Edinburgh for a breach of bail on Friday and appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.
Detective Chief Superintendent David Ferry said: "I want to make it clear that we will not stop until we bring those responsible for this criminality to justice.

It's understood at least 26 people have now been arrested as police try to tackle the growing gangland turf war which started in Edinburgh and spread to Glasgow.
Sources say trouble flared between rival factions after hoods linked to mobster kingpin Mark Richardson, who is in jail, were accused of stealing a stash of cocaine worth £500,000 linked to a Mr Big.
It's understood the Mr Big Glasgow mob boss, now based in Dubai, launched a new crime syndicate and began to flood Scotland with imported gear.
