Govt failed in handling rains: Ashoka

Time of India27-05-2025

Hassan: Leader of opposition in Assembly R Ashoka said the state govt failed to handle rain-related issues in the state. Ashoka, who visited rain-affected areas in Sakleshpura, said after several years, this year's
monsoon
arrived in the state 15 days early.
The chief minister should have held a meeting before this, but he did nothing so far, he said.
He said every time there is damage, providing relief is delayed. The govt appears to be unaware of the rain disasters. Not a single minister conducted a spot inspection, he said. Landslides occurred in Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu district, and he urged the govt to announce relief immediately. Congress is just spending time in conventions and meetings, he said.
When BJP was in power, the govt provided enough rations for a month to families affected by the rains. But this govt has not even released guidelines yet, he criticised. He added that the govt should take urgent action and open a care centre.
Without attending NITI Aayog meeting, CM criticising Centre: Ashoka
Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka said the chief minister did not attend the NITI Aayog meeting and made allegations about not receiving funds from the Union govt.

"While the neighbouring Tamil Nadu leaders spend a day there and listen to their needs, our CM was comfortably sleeping. This does not affect Siddaramaiah in any way, but it only affects the people of the state. If the govt had any sense, it should have acted," Ashoka said in Hassan.
Regarding the verbal spat between Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and minister Priyank Kharge, he said the ruling party should exercise patience. The role of the opposition is to criticise, not to cheer for them. Instead of showing patience, going for personal attacks is not right, he stated.

Bengaluru stampede an intelligence failure: JD(S)

Mysuru: Calling the Bengaluru stampede an intelligence failure, JD(S) working president S R Mahesh on Friday asked the govt to initiate action against the intelligence ADGP Hemanth Nimbalkar, home secretary, and chief secretary. He also urged the withdrawal of the suspension of honest police officers. Mahesh accused the CM of sparing the intelligence wing ADGP because his wife, Anjali Nimbalkar, is a former Congress MLA. "What was the intelligence ADGP doing? Didn't he report to the CM about the tragedy? And what was the home department secretary doing?" Mahesh claimed that after an intelligence report, why was permission given for celebrations at both places. The chief secretary is also responsible, he accused. Mahesh questioned CM Siddaramaiah if his action of suspending five police officers satisfied his conscience and said why use a powerful weapon on a sparrow by sparing those at the helm. Mahesh urged the CM to withdraw the suspension of Bengaluru commissioner B Dayanand and DCP central HT Shekar. Mahesh stated that all those on the stage were equally responsible for the incident. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Promoções imperdíveis de voos baratos Voos | Anúncios de Pesquisa Saiba Mais Undo "The Bengaluru stampede was an accident, but negligence is evident. During this time of grief, political mudslinging is not right. Hence, we didn't discuss the matter immediately," he said. Mahesh also questioned the need to invite family members to the govt-organised event when there was a huge gathering of fans, and he also urged the central govt to recall the governor, who too took part in the celebration at Vidhana Soudha. Rahul Gandhi says PM Modi gave in on caste census, questions silence on Trump's ceasefire claim

Rahul also targeted Modi over his silence on former US President Donald Trump's repeated claims that he helped broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan under Operation Sindoor. 'Trump has made the statement of brokering peace between India and Pakistan many times. Trump has said publicly 11 times, 11 times, that I made Narendra Modi surrender. Narendra Modi is unable to respond, and unable to say that Trump is lying because it's the truth,' he said. He alleged that the Modi government would never conduct a proper caste census, as it would end their style of politics. 'I doubt the government conducting caste census properly with no officers from the OBC, tribal community finalising the questionnaire,' he added. Rahul also criticised the Nitish Kumar-led state government over what he called a rising crime rate in Bihar. 'Bihar was once considered the land of truth, justice, and non-violence. It showed the path to the entire world; people from across the globe used to come to study at Nalanda University,' he said. 'People from Bihar are now forced to migrate to other states and even abroad because there are no employment opportunities here. Bihar has now become the crime capital of the country,' he said. Earlier, Rahul visited Dashrath Nagar village in Gaya district as part of his outreach campaign in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections. He met the family of the late Dashrath Manjhi, famously known as the 'Mountain Man' for carving a road through a hill in Gehlor village to connect it with Wazirganj block. Rahul was received by Manjhi's son Bhagirath Manjhi, who reportedly expressed his interest in contesting the upcoming Assembly elections from Bodh Gaya, although no formal announcement was made. Rahul later went to Gehlor village and garlanded the statue of Dashrath Manjhi. This was his sixth visit to Bihar in six months. He also held a Mahila Samvad in Gaya and interacted with women.
