Hillary Clinton is an American politician, diplomat, and former first lady who has played a major role in U.S. politics for decades. She is a former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate who lost the 2016 election to President Donald Trump. Clinton grew up in Chicago and met her husband, former President Bill Clinton at Yale University during law school. After graduation, she became a lawyer in Little Rock, Arkansas.
In 1975, Hillary married Bill, and they welcomed their daughter, Chelsea, in 1980.
Hillary Clinton was the first lady when her husband became the 42nd President of the United States, and she stood by him during his impeachment following an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
In 2001, Hillary was elected as a senator from New York. Served two terms and was active on defense and foreign policy issues, particularly after 9/11. She sought the Democratic nomination for the 2008 presidential election, but lost. She later served as Secretary of State during former President Barack Obama's first term, starting in 2009. In 2016, she became the first woman to be nominated as the Democratic candidate for president, but lost to Trump.
She is the author of many best-selling books.
Hillary and Bill are grandparents to three grandchildren: Charlotte, Aidan, and Jasper. HIllary continues to be an active member of the Democratic Party.

Triad conservationist warns of tick dangers after hospitalization: ‘I got really sick'
(WGHP) — Tick season lasts from early spring through fall, and ticks can have dire consequences if they aren't found. It can happen to even the most experienced outdoorsmen like Piedmont Land Conservancy Executive Director Kevin Redding. Redding has spent most of his life outside, not only with his work, but his hobbies are fly-fishing and hunting. Walking in nature has its rewards. 'The great part of my job is I get to spend a good amount of time outdoors. I get to hike properties, walk on greenways and walk in fields,' Redding said. And it also comes with risks. Among the blades of grass and bramble are little insects small enough to fit on a pencil, and they love to jump on people and pets. 'My experience was I got really sick a few weeks ago from what turned out to be a tick bite, but we didn't know that at the beginning,' Redding said. He underwent a battery of tests after ending up hospitalized before they landed on a diagnosis. 'I was fortunate because I knew I had a tick on me a week before,' he said. The tick had given him a bacterial infection called ehrlichiosis. He underwent treatment, which required antibiotics, and he's back to doing what he loves, but spreading the word that it can happen to anyone. 'Anytime you're out in vegetation … you need to wear light clothes. You need to spray. You need to check yourself really good afterwards … I do a really good job of that, and it still got me,' Redding said. There are multiple illnesses from ticks, including Lyme disease. 'If you get sick, and you've been anywhere close to outdoors, make sure your doctor knows it's in your history, so they can quickly test you for tick-borne illness,' he said. Rocky Mountain spotted fever is harmful to people and domestic dogs. It can be treated with antibiotics. If left untreated, it can sometimes cause death. The symptoms include: fever headache muscle pain vomiting possible rash A tick must be attached for at least six hours to transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever and at least 24 hours to transmit Lyme disease, so checking yourself after any time spent in an environment that could have ticks is very important. If you've been in a grassy and wooded area, it's always a good idea to check for ticks in the first few hours after you get back and take a shower to possibly wash off any potential ticks. Insect repellents are effective as well and should be applied liberally. Trying to avoid tick-infested areas while picking a campsite? Use a piece of white fabric and brush it across the ground. If you get ticks on the fabric, pick a new place. If you get a tick on you, follow these steps to remove it: Use tweezers to grab the tick as close to the surface of your skin as possible. Pull up with steady pressure. Don't twist or jerk the tick since that can cause the mouth parts to break off and stay in your skin. If this happens, remove the mouth parts with tweezers. If you can't remove the mouth with tweezers, leave it alone and let the skin heal. After the tick has been removed, clean the bitten area with alcohol or wash it with soap and water. Never crush a tick, smother one with petroleum jelly or use a flame to try and get it to let go of you. Instead, flush it down the toilet, put it in a sealed bag, wrap it tightly in tape or put it in alcohol. It's also good to frequently check your pets for ticks, especially if they've been outside because they can get a variety of diseases such as: Lyme disease Rocky Mountain spotted fever canine ehrlichiosis anaplasma The CDC recommends talking to your veterinarian about the best tick prevention products for your dogs and making sure you know what kinds of ticks live in your area. Reducing the tick habitat in your yard is another great way to keep your pets safe from the bloodsuckers. Keep your yard mowed and free of leaf litter to avoid creating a prime environment for ticks. For large-scale infestations, pesticides can be used to cut down on the tick population. Be mindful of your use of pesticides and follow the instructions exactly. One year away: SD's 2026 gubernatorial primary
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — One year from South Dakota's gubernatorial primary in 2026, the race is beginning to take shape. 'I've been there advocating for the people, for their rights, for their families, for their freedoms, and I don't back down,' Republican Jon Hansen of the Dell Rapids area said May 28. Hansen, who serves as speaker of the House of Representatives in Pierre, has officially thrown his name in the ring. Structure damage, split trees left behind after storm 'As we go out and we spread the message about putting the people first in South Dakota again, the reception is just overwhelmingly positive,' Hansen said. 'We're really happy to see it.' The 39-year-old lawyer, who formally announced his candidacy in late April, says voters want relief from property taxes. 'The people of the state want to see their government trimmed down, trim the fat,' Hansen said. 'They see what's going on in Washington with DOGE, and they want a South Dakota DOGE, and that's something that we've committed to doing.' Toby Doeden of Aberdeen, chair of the conservative political action committee Dakota First Action, has also filed paperwork to run for the governor's office. He has not responded to interview requests from KELOLAND News to talk with him about his gubernatorial plans. His website describes him as 'a proven conservative,' and Doeden Investment Group's website lists him as its president. As far as who might join Doeden and Hansen, some bigger names in South Dakota politics are potentially in the mix. For one, there's the current occupant of the governor's office: 66-year-old Republican Larry Rhoden. He rose to the position following former Gov. Kristi Noem's departure to become secretary of the Department of Homeland Security with the federal government. 'I think campaigns are too long and too expensive, and I think people get really tired of them,' Rhoden said May 29. 'So, I've really focused on just doing a good job and getting around the state and meeting people. So, we're not going to make any announcements anytime soon.' The man whom Noem defeated in South Dakota's Republican gubernatorial primary in 2018, 54-year-old Marty Jackley of Pierre who is currently the state's attorney general, is also on the record as a potential candidate. 'I'm considering it, but right now I'm focused on doing the job that South Dakotans elected me to do, and that is to be the best attorney general I can be to keep our streets and communities safe,' Jackley said May 27. Another possible candidate is the man who has held South Dakota's only seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington since 2019: 48-year-old Republican Dusty Johnson of Mitchell. 'Certainly getting a lot of encouragement across the state to run for governor,' Johnson said April 22. 'I'm not worried about that right now. I do give it a little bit of consideration every once in a while, but day in and day out, I really need to be focused on my day job.' No Democratic candidates have yet announced their candidacy for South Dakota governor. After the primary election of June 2, 2026, the general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
