Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy on Friday reaffirmed the State government's commitment to welfare and development initiatives, despite prevailing financial constraints.
Addressing the media in Palamaner, the Minister said the Super Six initiatives announced by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu have been well-received by the target groups across the State. As part of continued support to farmers, he announced that ₹7,000 would be credited directly into their bank accounts on August 2 under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme. He also highlighted the government's support to women through the Deepam 2.0 initiative.
Mr. Janardhan Reddy confirmed that free bus travel for women in APSRTC buses would begin from August 15. While acknowledging that the scheme would impose a financial burden of ₹350 crore on the State, he reiterated the government's unwavering focus on welfare.
Speaking about the Chief Minister's recent visit to Singapore, the Minister said it aimed to attract investments and secure expert collaboration for rebuilding the State's infrastructure. He noted that key projects such as Amaravati and Polavaram were progressing well. He also criticised the previous YSRCP government, stating that the present coalition government was making all efforts to undo the damage caused during its five-year rule. Priority is being given to infrastructure, especially road projects, with ₹4,000 crore allocated for inter-State road connectivity.

Bars in Andhra Pradesh allowed to operate until 11 p.m. as Cabinet approves new policy

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved the Bar Policy 2025–28, based on the recommendations made by the Cabinet Sub-Committee, on Wednesday. As part of the new policy, which will come into force after August 31, the bars in the State will remain open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Cabinet also cleared a proposal to allow permit rooms, which were disbanded during the previous YSR Congress Party's (YSRCP) tenure. Disclosing the details of the Cabinet meeting, Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Minister Kolusu Parthasaradhi said that the Cabinet Sub-Committee had studied the bar policies of other States and engaged with the stakeholders before finalising its recommendations. The Bar Policy 2022–25, which is set to expire on August 31, was based on an auction system and saw the issuance of licences to 840 bars. 'The current policy led to several operational difficulties. Hence, the government decided to introduce a new bar policy to address these challenges,' said Mr. Parthasaradhi. The new policy allows bars to operate from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., offering greater flexibility for licence holders and consumers. It was noticed that more than 2.07 lakh law and order cases were registered due to open consumption of liquor. To address the issue, the Cabinet decided to allow permit rooms, with a maximum capacity of 1,000 sft, the Minister said. The newly approved policy also proposes a shift from the auction system to a lottery-based allocation, which will be implemented only in the areas where a minimum of four applications are received per bar licence available. Licensing fee The new licence period will be effective from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2028. The application fee will be ₹5 lakh. The licence fee would be ₹35 lakh if the population is less than 50,000; ₹55 lakh if the population is between 50,000 and 5 lakh; and ₹75 lakh if the population is more than 5 lakh. At least four applications must be received for each bar. To ensure fairness and increased participation, the government is considering allocating bar licences through a lottery system, moving away from the auction method followed during the YSRCP's tenure. To promote social welfare and inclusivity, the government has reserved 10% of bar licences for toddy tappers (kallu geetha workers) at 50% of the standard fee. This measure is aimed at supporting the livelihoods of traditional workers within the excise ecosystem, the Minister added.

HC declines to issue notices to respondents in PIL seeking probe into YSRCP-era scams

Vijayawada: The high court on Wednesday declined to issue notices to respondents, including former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in a PIL which a special investigation team (SIT) headed by a retired judge and comprising officials from CBI, ED, and Income Tax dept to probe into various scams during the YSRCP regime. One Mehek Maheswari, an advocate from South Delhi, filed the petition and argued the matter as party in person. He relied upon various white papers, released by the NDA govt in the state, pointing out irregularities during the YSRCP regime. Maheswari told the high court that according to the white papers released by the govt in the assembly, several scams have taken place and state agencies are ineffective in unearthing the details of the scams. The HC bench headed by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Cheemalapati Ravi expressed several doubts on the bona fides of the petitioner. The bench wondered why a busy lawyer in Delhi came down all the way to Amaravati to file and argue a PIL regarding alleged scams during the previous govt. Noting that a CBI investigation should be done only in rare and exceptional circumstances, the bench asked the petitioner to explain and satisfy the court on the conditions set forth by the apex court for ordering a CBI inquiry. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Living perfectly well without American goods': Why more Chinese shoppers support local brands CNA Read More Undo Special govt pleader S Pranathi told the high court that the state govt has constituted a SIT to probe the alleged irregularities and sought time to submit details. Padma Reddy surprise win jolts NDA in GVMC polls

Visakhapatnam: YSRCP corporator Sadi Padmavati (Padma Reddy) on Wednesday won a seat in the GVMC standing committee elections, securing 50 votes. This came as a surprise to the NDA alliance, as the YSRCP currently holds a strength of only 32 corporators in the council, while the NDA possesses sufficient numerical strength to capture all 10 seats. NDA leaders believe there was evident crossvoting in favour of Padma Reddy. GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg announced the results in the evening. A total of 20 candidates (10 from the NDA and 10 from the YSRCP) contested the elections, with 92 corporators exercising their voting rights. The winning members and their vote counts are: Neelima Konathala (58 votes), Gankala Kavitha (57), Dadi Venkata Rameshwar Rao (57), Molli Hemalatha (57), Senapati Vasantha (54), Gedela (Bantubilli) Lavanya (53), Madamshetty Chinatalli (52), Raparthi Triveni Varaprasada Rao (52), Molli Muthyalu (51), and Sadi Padmavati (50). Following the results, YSRCP Visakhapatnam district president KK Raju said that Padmavati's victory is a "slap in the face" to the NDA alliance. He remarked that despite the TDP-led alliance holding a majority, some of their own corporators turned against them to support a YSRCP candidate, exposing deep dissatisfaction within their ranks. Raju recalled how the alliance had previously usurped the mayor's post through allegedly undemocratic means, including the removal of a BC woman mayor supported by the YSRCP.
