Only enumeration will be done for caste survey: Karnataka CM
CHIKKABALLAPUR: Following objections raised by a few people before the party high command, the caste survey will be conducted again but it will be only enumeration.
The previous survey has been accepted in principle, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in Gouribidanur on Wednesday. He was speaking to the press during the inauguration of the KUSUM C Solar Scheme.
The socio-economic caste census was conducted in 2015-16, and, as almost ten years have gone by, an enumeration survey will be conducted to include those who were left out, and will be completed within the stipulated period, he added.
On including Tumakuru in Greater Bengaluru Authority, the chief minister said the cabinet will discuss in detail, but so far no decision has been taken. Replying to a question on the BJP demanding his resignation, the CM said the BJP is trying to do politics over the stampede, and asked whether the BJP had demanded any resignations when people had died in the Kumbh Mela stampede, or when a bridge collapsed in Gujarat.
He added that a commission has been formed and it would submit its report within a month. The CM said the Congress government has sufficient funds to take up development works despite spending huge amounts on guarantee schemes. Last year, capital expenditure was Rs 52,000 crore, and this year it has been increased to Rs 83,000 crore, he said.

Karnataka demands greater share of central tax pool
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday demanded greater share of funds for the state from the central tax pool. Siddaramaiah said that there had been a 'stark imbalance in fiscal returns' despite Karnataka contributing about 8.7% of the national gross domestic product and ranking second in Goods and Services Tax collections with just 5% of India's population. The chief minister said that the cut in Karnataka's share under the 15th Finance Commission from 4.7% to 3.6% had resulted in a cumulative loss of more than Rs 80,000 crore between the financial years 2020-'21 and 2025-'26, PTI reported. Siddaramaiah's request came during a meeting with 16th Finance Commission Chairman Arvind Panagariya. The commission, set up in December 2023, will recommend distribution of tax revenue between the Union government and the states for a five-year period between the financial years 2026-'27 and 2030-'31. Karnataka pays Rs 4.5 lakh crore in taxes every year, Siddaramaiah said, adding that the state received only 15 paise in return for every Re 1 it contributes to union taxes. 'This injustice should not happen in the 16th Finance Commission,' the chief minister's office said in a statement. To make the 'formula fairer, Karnataka has proposed reducing the weight of the income-distance criterion and giving more weight to a state's economic contribution, so that high-performing states are not penalised, but encouraged,' The Indian Express quoted the chief minister's office as saying. The Karnataka government also requested Rs 1.15 lakh crore for investments to strengthen infrastructure in Bengaluru.

Syamala Nagar and Sanjeevaiah Nagar ROBs sanctioned, says Union Minister Pemmasani
Union Minister of State for Rural Development Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar told The Hindu that the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned Road Over Bridges (ROBs) at Syamala Nagar and Sanjeevaiah Nagar in Guntur, with a total funding of Rs. 160 crore. Dr. Pemmasani stated that the entire cost will be borne by the Central Government, with no financial obligation on the part of the State. He emphasized that these approvals fulfill promises made to the public during the elections, adding that necessary infrastructure for Guntur is being addressed one by one. He further said that including these two latest approvals, a total of seven ROBs have now been sanctioned for the Guntur parliamentary constituency—Sankar Vilas, Gaddipadu, Pedapalakaluru, Nandivelugu, and Mangalagiri being the others. Together, these projects account for Rs. 572 crore in central funding, with the Centre taking full financial responsibility. Dr. Pemmasani also met with South Central Railway General Manager Arun Kumar Jain in Hyderabad on Friday, expressing gratitude for his support. He requested the GM's cooperation in resolving drainage and traffic issues near three existing bridges in Guntur city.

Kavitha demands fund release for Moharram
Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Friday demanded that the Telangana government release funds for future Moharram observances. She alleged that both Moharram funds and allocations for the traditional elephant procession have been withheld since the Congress party assumed power. The Telangana Jagruti President specifically called for the government to release funds for Moharram, which is considered the holiest festival for Shia Muslims. She discussed the matter with Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar over the phone on Friday. Kavitha recalled that the KCR government had released funds for organising Moharram in 2023, but asserted that the subsequent Congress government had not provided any financial support since then. She further highlighted the tradition of Shia Muslims taking out an elephant procession for Moharram, explaining that the government did not grant permission for such a procession in 2024.
