‘Mysore Pak' renamed ‘Mysore Shree': Jaipur confectioners drop ‘Pak' from sweet names to express patriotism; See the new names

Time of India23-05-2025
What's in a name? For many
sweet shops in Jaipur
, quite a lot. In a patriotic move, several well-known confectioners in the city have started changing the names of their popular sweets by dropping the word '
Pak
' and replacing it with 'Shree'.
So now, people are buying '
Mysore Shree
' instead of 'Mysore Pak', 'Moti Shree' instead of 'Moti Pak', and 'Aam Shree', 'Gond Shree', even luxury sweets like 'Swarn Shree' and 'Chandi Shree', instead of their original names ending in 'Pak'.
This name change comes after recent Pakistan-backed terror attacks in Pahalgam and Operation Sindoor, where India targeted terror camps in Pakistan. Sweet shop owners say this is their small way of expressing patriotism.
'Patriotism in Every Sweet'
Anjali Jain, the owner of
Tyohaar Sweets
in Vaishali Nagar, said their sweets should reflect national pride.
'The spirit of patriotism shouldn't just stay at the border, it should be in every Indian home and heart,' she said.

She also said the decision is not just about words, but feelings. Customers are also supporting the move.
A Sweet, Symbolic Message
Bombay Misthan Bhandar, one of Jaipur's oldest sweet shops, has also renamed all sweets ending in 'Pak'. Agarwal Caterers joined in too.
'We want to send a clear message: if anyone dares to go against India, we will respond in every way. This is our sweet, symbolic answer,' said Vineet Trikha, general manager at Bombay Misthan Bhandar.
Customers Approve
Many customers feel proud of the change.
Businessman Ramesh Bhatia said that such actions show unity.
'It may seem like a small thing, but changing the names of sweets is a strong cultural message. It shows we stand with our soldiers.'
Retired teacher Pushpa Kaushik added,
'When I heard the name 'Mysore Shree', I smiled with pride. It feels like a sweet salute to our brave soldiers.'
Smaller sweet shops in Jaipur are also following the trend.
What Does 'Pak' Mean?
According to the Rekhta dictionary, the word 'Pak' comes from Persian and means 'sweetmeat or confection', and also 'pure, clean or holy'. The Hindi dictionary Shabdkosh.com defines 'Pak' as 'cooking or preparation'.
But for these Jaipur sweet makers, the word change is not about the dictionary, it's about national pride.

White House, again, claims Trump stopped India-Pak conflict: ‘Could've resulted in nuclear war'

The White House once again claimed on Tuesday that United States President Donald Trump ended the four-day military conflict between India and Pakistan in May this year. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Donald Trump was "very proud" of all the peace deals he has been able to achieve. (AFP) While addressing the media on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the conflict between India and Pakistan could have turned into a 'nuclear war' had Trump not intervened. While answering a question regarding US' role in trying to end the Russia-Ukraine war, Leavitt said, 'The President is using the might of American strength to demand that respect from our allies, our friends, our adversaries all around the world.' She added that this reflects not just in the progress with Russia and Ukraine but also 'in the closing of seven global conflicts around the world.' 'Trump used trade to stop India-Pak war,' claims White House Later during the press briefing, she also said that Trump used trade in a 'very powerful way' to end the India-Pakistan conflict. 'India and Pakistan, he used trade in a very powerful way as leverage to bring that conflict to an end,' she said while talking about how 'proud' Trump is of all the peace deals he has been able to achieve, including between Armenia and Azerbaijan. India has consistently denied Donald Trump's claim of US' role in ending its four-day military confrontation with Pakistan from May 7-10. The confrontation happened after India launched Operation Sindoor against terror infrastructure in Pakistan after the brutal April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. While addressing the Parliament during the monsoon session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that no leader of any country asked India to stop Operation Sindoor.

Operation Sindoor in NCERT textbooks: Pahalgam attack on ‘Pakistan's military orders' which Indian Muslims ‘openly…'

The NCERT has rolled out two modules on the Operation Sindoor for classes 3 to 12. It describes the Pahalgam attack on April 22 this year was carried out on 'Pakistan's military direct orders' which the Indian Muslims 'openly denounced' and 'saga of valour' was a 'promise to honour lives lost'. The modules added as supplementary material to the curriculum were introduced more than three months after Operation Sindoor. They also assert that, despite Pakistan's denial of involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack, the attack was conducted on 'direct orders' from 'Pakistan's military and political leadership". The modules highlight that people across the country stood united, with candlelight marches held nationwide in solidarity. "Muslim communities in Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal wore black armbands and openly denounced the attack. In Kashmir, shopkeepers closed their shops in protest. Villages near the border demanded strong action and supported the Armed Forces. The local (Kashmiri) population stood up and spoke against terrorists. Their response breaks stereotypes and shows the real voice of peace-loving people,' the secondary stage module added. "India launched missiles and air strikes, targeting nine terrorist sites situated in Pakistan and Pak-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) on May 7, 2025. Out of nine targets which were finally chosen and approved, seven of these terror camps were destroyed by the Indian Army, while the Indian Air Force destroyed terrorist targets in Muridke and Bahawalpur, which are the nerve centres of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed," one of the modules said. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has reiterated government stand that India made sure no civilians were harmed. "Every target was double-checked. Only terrorist bases were attacked. This operation showed that India would not let terror masterminds escape punishment," it added. The two modules are titled 'Operation Sindoor—A Saga of Valour' for preparatory and middle stages or classes 3 to 8, and 'Operation Sindoor—A Mission of Honour and Bravery' for secondary stage or classes 9 to 12. The modules have been created with the aim of raising awareness about India's military power among school children. Calling Operation Sindoor 'a triumph of bravery, strategy, and innovation', the modules also mention India's air defence systems, like the S-400, which shot down enemy aircraft at long distances and also prevented enemy drones from causing damage. The modules also explain that the name Operation Sindoor was chosen as a tribute to the widows of the victims, symbolising solidarity, empathy, and respect. The modules highlight retaliatory actions by Indian military forces, including the Balakot air strikes in 2019 following the Pulwama terror attack, and more recently, Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam terror attack. "In the past, India has never shied away from standing up for its citizens. We gave a strong reply in the wars of 1947, 1965, 1971, and 1999... Operation Sindoor was also India's way of stopping terrorism, led by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen (HuM) and Pakistan's spy agency, ISI,' one of the modules said. "It was not just a military operation; it was a promise to protect peace and honour the lives lost," it mentioned.

And it's a good thing that these two leaders are going to be sitting down together, and the president expects that to happen," Leavitt added, "I can assure you that the United States government and the Trump administration are working with both Russia and Ukraine to make that bilateral happen as we speak."Leavitt noted that Trump's push for peace brought European leaders to the White House within 48 hours of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir asked about whether the conflict could have been avoided if Trump were president, Leavitt reiterated the administration's position."The president often says that this war would not have started if he were in office and Putin confirmed that," she said.
